● Earthworms are doing their part

Do you know that earthworms (蚯蚓) help to make healthy soil? Many scientists think they play a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} role in growing our food. New research has found that the animals help grow 65% of the world's rice. They make themselves one of the world's greatest rice {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

How do the earthworms have the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} on soil? Worms make soil healthier by eating dead plants. As they eat the plants, they make something other plants need in order to grow. Worms also help soil keep water, and their movements {#blank#}4{#/blank#} tunnels that help plants grow roots. 

However, some scientists believe other living things in the soil can also do the similar things as the earthworms. They think more research is needed. 

● Wild elephants can solve puzzles

Recently scientists have found that wild elephants can solve puzzles with no training after the elephants in zoos were seen {#blank#}5{#/blank#} solving problems. 

Researchers at a wildlife area in Thailand set up puzzle boxes with three compartments (间隔). Each compartment was filled with jackfruit and opened in a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} way. By using cameras, the scientists watched 77 Asian elephants to see what they would do. By the end of the {#blank#}7{#/blank#}, they found that 11 elephants were able to get the fruit from one compartment, eight got into two compartments, and five solved all three puzzles to get the treats. 

Elephants that returned to try the boxes several times had the most success. Researchers say the ability to solve problems can help the animals {#blank#}8{#/blank#} in changing environments. And understanding how they do this could help scientists protect them in a better way.

Feng Yuanyuan, born in 1995, has worked at an ice- cream company for two years. Her main role is to taste and test ice cream products(产品). Usually she tastes more than ten ice- creams a day, but sometimes she has to taste over twenty ice- creams. After eating one, she needs to wash her mouth with lots of warm water so as to comfort her tongue. Through this taste- testing, Feng makes more than 10,000 yuan a month, more than most of her college classmates. However, a by- product of eating so much ice- cream is that she is getting fat." I need to take exercise every day to keep in shape," said Feng.

" To be an ice- cream taster, a person needs to have a sensitive(敏感的) tongue and he must really like ice- cream. Many people may become tired of ice- cream easily if they have to eat it every day, so a good ice- cream taster isn't easy to find," said Feng.

This cool job keeps Feng Yuanyuan busy but happy. She's also very happy that the company's products sell well." After more than a year's hard work, I can tell if an ice- cream has additives(添加剂) just by tasting it.I hope that in the future I can find out what a product is made from with only one bite," Feng said.

Everyone knows that exercise is important. We all need to exercise. Doctors say it is good for us. It makes your heart and body strong. Children who often exercise are more alert（灵活）. That means they do better in tests and schoolwork than those who don't exercise. 

They are many ways to exercise. You can walk, run, swim, skate, or play ball games. Make sure you exercise in the following ways: You have to like what you are doing. Exercise enough— but not too much. It's best to exercise twice a week. Thirty minutes each time is enough. Try all kinds of sports until（直到）you find one, two or even three sports that feel right for you. 

You can exercise at fitness centers. They have a lot of equipment（设备）there. The equipment will help exercise your arms, legs and other parts of your body to make you healthy. Some people buy equipment for their homes. But it's very expensive. 

①Playing team sports like soccer, basketball, and volleyball is a great way for kids to keep moving and stay fit. These sports not only help their bodies but also give them important lessons for life.

②First, team sports show kids how to work together. When they play on a team, they have to help each other to win. This teaches them to talk and support each other, which is helpful in all parts of life.

③Next, playing team sports can make kids feel better about themselves and more sure of their abilities. When kids help their team win, they feel proud. This good feeling can help them believe in what they can do and make them feel better about who they are.

④Also, team sports help kids learn to manage(管理) their time. Kids who play sports have to fit in school, practice, and games. They know obeying discipline(纪律) is really important by doing teamwork. This teaches them to understand what the most important thing is and use their time well.

⑤Finally, being on a team is good for making friends and getting closer to people they have already known. For many kids, their teammates are like a second family.

⑥So, team sports are really important for how kids grow up. They help their bodies, minds, and social life in ways that can make their whole life better.
