A Move to Safety

    The Turners sat at the kitchen table. The sun was shining and filled the kitchen with a warm light. It was a perfect day for having a picnic or going surfing. But in the Turners' kitchen, no one seemed to be paying attention to the 1 .

    "Okay, girls," said Mrs. Turner. "I can tell by the expressions on your faces that you have a pretty good idea of why we need to have this family 2 ." Linda and Kala exchanged looks and slowly nodded.

    "Your mom and I have had many talks lately about the possibility of 3 ," said Mr. Turner. "We were hoping that it wouldn't come to this, 4 we don't have other choices."

    "But Dad," said Kala, "Kilauea has been an active volcano（火山）since 1983! Nothing has happened to us or to our house yet. I think we'll be 5 here."

    "But your dad and I care about all the recent warnings giving by the government. Even though we've been safe up to now, there is no way to guarantee（保证）that a larger eruption（喷发）isn't coming up," said Mrs. Turner.

    "Mom, this is our   6 . I can't even remember living anywhere else!" Linda said, fighting back tears.

    Mrs. Turner put an arm around her daughter's shoulder. "This won't go 7 for any of us," she said. "Dad and I love this house, too. We have so many happy memories here. But we're tired of living with such uncertainty. The most 8 thing in the world to us is that our family stays safe."

    Mr. Turner walked around to the other side of the table. He put one large hand on each of his daughter's shoulders. "I'm proud of you two," he said. "Thank you for trying to 15 why this is so important to your mom and me."

    Linda and Kala smiled. Dad was right: home was wherever the family was.

    He was married to Hu Jieqing and they10four children, one son and three daughters.

Today, I felt bad after dinner. So I went out and took a walk in the street at 7:00 pm. While I was walking, I saw an old man selling vegetables. He looked very tired and nobody was buying his vegetables. I wanted to give him something but I brought nothing with me.

Then, a little girl went to him and said,"Excuse me, may I polish(擦亮) your shoes? I need money to buy a new school uniform (校服)."The old man answered,"Oh! Come with me and I will buy you a school uniform." Then they walked to a shop and he bought her a school uniform. The girl thanked him and left happily, leaving the old man smiling.

The old man walked away from the shop, but then I stopped him. I said, "You make the best day of my life. Thank you for your kindness!"As I walked away, I looked back and I could see him still smiling. I felt better and walked home.

Cristina Zenato, a world-famous shark expert and diver(潜水员), was born in Italy and grew up in Africa until the age of 15. In 1994, she went on a vacation to Grand Bahama and fell in love with both diving and the island. So she decided to make Bahama her home and make diving her life.

Cristina learned to feed sharks when she was a child. In 1996, she became a shark feeder trainer. She created a course that educated divers about the beauty of sharks and the need to protect them and their environment. Through the "shark feeder course", she has created more shark lovers.

Cristina is talented in communicating with sharks. With just a touch on a shark's head and face, she can lead it into a state of sleep for 15 minutes. Cristina's special talent has been used to study shark behavior by scientists. It also helps to save sharks. Cristina still remembers clearly the first time she managed to take out a huge hook(吊钩) from a tiger shark's mouth. Up to now, she has taken out hundreds of hooks and fishing lines from shark mouths and skin without hurting them. Her work has saved many sharks from possible death.

Cristina has received many prizes and honors for her great work in shark research and protection. She also acted in several films including "Saving the Sharks" by the BBC. Until today, she continues to give speeches around the world.

In a small village, there was a young boy named Mark. He was in the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} grade in a middle school. His parents went {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, so he lived with his grandmother.

 Before Mark's birthday, his parents sent him a special gift —a ticket to the Science Museum in the city centre. He was so {#blank#}3{#/blank#} that he couldn't wait to visit it. He carefully kept the ticket in his drawer(抽屉) and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} it. However, on his birthday, he found that the ticket was missing. He looked everywhere, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the drawer, the table and the chair, but he couldn't find it. He was{#blank#}6{#/blank#} and he couldn't understand how it went missing.

But soon, he decided not to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} himself by worrying too much. He thought to {#blank#}8{#/blank#}," Whatever has happened, it's out of my control. Maybe it's a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} for me to be more careful in the future."

 He enjoyed his birthday with his grandmother at home {#blank#}10{#/blank#} he missed the visit to the Science Museum. He also learned a valuable lesson from this incident— to take care of his things more carefully.

I am Sandy Brown. Tony, Mary and I are in the same class. They are brother and sister but they don't like the same food.

 Mary doesn't want to be fat. So, for breakfast, she only has an egg and a cup of milk. For lunch, she has some vegetables and rice with her friends. For dinner, she likes fruit salad. She likes ice- cream and hamburgers, but she doesn't eat them. She thinks they can make her fat.

 What about Tony? He likes sports very much and he plays volleyball well. He always has a big breakfast: two eggs, some milk and salad. For lunch, he likes chicken, a hamburger and some rice. After school, he plays volleyball with his classmates. So he is hungry in the evening. He likes some vegetables, two hamburgers and some fruit for dinner.
