During the Spring Festival I went to Hebei to visit a temple, I found that every arch (拱形物) of wooden architecture (建筑) had bird-proof frames (防鸟构架). {#blank#}1{#/blank#} I can't help but wonder if having these frames is good for the environment. So I started researching.

I found that putting bird-proof frames and nets under the eaves (犀檐) of the buildings in place has caused problems for bird habitats (栖息地). {#blank#}2{#/blank#} It often nests in ancient buildings to lay eggs and raise its young. Using bird-proof frames may lead to a drop in their numbers. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} .

As birds stand op nearby ancient trees, their numerous droppings (排泄物) can cause huger damages to the trees overtime. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} They can also leave burns on plants.

In fact, ancient Chinese people already worked out how to deal with birds that live near old buildings. For example, the tiles (瓷砖) of the Forbidden City use smooth reflections to prevent birds from getting close.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} For example, birds that catch insects on old wooden pagodas (塔) prevent the inside from getting damaged. Can we find a way to make ancient architecture and birds coexist harmoniously (和谐共存)? This is a very important issue for us!

Wushu can be traced back to ancient times. As we all know, the Chinese Wushu Association has been working very hard to {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(传播) the popularity of Wushu. As a way of self-defense and to keep people {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(健康的) and strong, Wushu has become popular in some other countries,{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (尤其) in Africa.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games were over. China's Olympic team won91 medals (奖牌), including 40 gold, 27 sliver and 24 bronze. All eyes are on the Chinese diving dream team(中国跳水梦之队). For the first time, it won all eight gold medals in the diving(跳水) events of the Olympics. In the team, Quan Hongcha n stood out with her wonderful diving.

When Quan was just seven, she started to learn diving. The diving platform (跳台) is very high and she is still so young. Sometimes she is afraid of it, but she always tries her best. Quan practices for eight hours every day, but she never complains (抱怨) about the training from day to night. In the women's 10- meter platform final, she won gold again, just as she did in Tokyo Olympics.

Quan told the reporter(记者)," Everyone says I am a genius(天才). ButI think it's more about hard- working. I must practice over and over again. Practice makes perfect. That's me, Quan Hongchan, from China."

Mr. Stevens walked around the class handing out math books. Then he returned to the front of the class and looked at us. We stared (盯着看) back. "What are you waiting for? Get started!" he said. 

We looked at him, confused (困惑的). A student asked, "Mr. Stevens, aren't you going to teach us first?" Mr. Stevens replied, "You're smart kids. Open the book and get to it. If you have any questions, raise your hand, and I'll come to help you."

My friend Paul and I opened our books to the first page. A competition began. Paul and I spent all our free time at home working through the lessons. Mr. Stevens, true to his word, helped anyone who had a problem. It was not a normal way of teaching but it worked well. Paul and I worked like dogs and finished two and one half math books that first year. 

It was a turning point in my life. Mr. Stevens made me realize I was good at math and that I was able to reach the top of any class I attended. I kept learning that way all through my high school and university. 

I've carried Mr. Stevens' lesson with me all my life. Whenever I am faced with a new challenge, I think of the first math class of my junior high school. Instead of sitting around, I just get started. Then before I know it, the challenge has been dealt with.

17-year-old Girl Rides to School

Kacey Tucker, a 17-year-old girl, comes from Saudi Arabia. The girl rides her horse to school every day.

"My family has two horses, Jacob and Donald." she says, "My sister, Melissa and I often ride them to school."

After finishing all her middle school classes in Saudi Arabia, Kacey 

goes to a university (大学) in America now." My cousin's university has a really clean and big barn （畜棚）," says Kacey, " And I'm very happy to study there."

Kacey gets another horse, Winston in America. And she rides the horse to and from the university every day.

"That's so cool. I'd like a horse, too!" one of Kacey's classmates says.
