A Frenchman went to New York to take a holiday. He didn't know a word of English. When he arrived in New York, he took a bus to a hotel. 

It was a sunny day. The Frenchman went out for a walk. When he went along the street, he thought he must remember the name of the street. On the wall near the street, he saw some English words. He wrote them down in his notebook. "Now I know the name of the street," he said to himself. "It will be easy for me to get back to the hotel. "

He walked for a long time in the city. Then he felt tired and wanted to go back to his hotel. He took the notebook out of his backpack and showed the words to a young woman. The young woman read the words and looked at the Frenchman. She didn't know what he wanted. 

Then the Frenchman stopped an old man and showed him the words. The old man didn't know what the Frenchman wanted, either. 

At last, the Frenchman saw a young man. He knew some French. When the Frenchman showed him the words and asked where the street was, the young man laughed, because the words in the notebook read: One-way street(单行道). 

Today we had a discussion about "If you have only one day left…" It seemed that different people had{#blank#}1{#/blank#} opinions. Most students said they would stay at home and help their parents {#blank#}2{#/blank#}housework. They wanted to show love to their {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Some students wanted to do {#blank#}4{#/blank#}different such as helping others. They said they should do something meaningful to the world. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} a few students said they would do nothing but just have a rest at home. They had too much to do every day. They needed a {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the class had different ideas, we all knew one point, that was to cherish (珍惜) our life. At last, the teacher summed up {#blank#}8{#/blank#}discussions. She said, "I'm glad you all want to use your limited (有限的) {#blank#}9{#/blank#} to do something meaningful. But please remember: try to{#blank#}10{#/blank#} good use of your time!"

The most positive(乐观的) person I have ever seen is my dad! He is so positive that I do not1 hearing a single word from him which is related(相关的) to hopelessness!

At thirteen, I was diagnosed (诊断)with a kind of attention problems. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.

In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, "Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it. "

She glanced down at me through her glasses, "You are no different from your classmates, young man. "

I tried, but I didn't finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.

One Saturday morning, Jeremy's mum had a bad cold and she wanted to stay in bed. 

"How can I help her?" Jeremy thought to himself. Then he got a good idea. Mum did    the    laundry on Saturdays. "Why don't I wash my own clothes this week?" He ran to his room to get his clothes. He put them into the washing machine(洗衣机). Finally, he closed the door and pressed the big button "START". After the washing was done, Jeremy took out the clothes. Everything seemed clean, and he felt very happy. Then he took a pink T-shirt out of the washing machine. 

Jeremy stopped. "____I don't have a pink T-shirt, " Jeremy said to himself. He reached into the washing machine to take out more clothes. There were more pink clothes! What happened?

The last thing was a bright red sock. When he picked it up, the sock turned his hand red. "The sock turns all of my white clothes pink, " Jeremy thought. He didn't mind having pink clothes. 

The next day, Jeremy wore his new pink T-shirt to breakfast. "Where did you get that T-shirt?" Mum asked. "It looks nice. " Jeremy smiled, "I made it yesterday when I washed the clothes. It was an accident(意外), but I like it. " "I like it too, " said Mum. And they began their breakfast.
