One Day of a Middle School Student

My name is Jill Green. I am a teacher of a middle school in England. 1 want to tell the school day of my school to you.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}The first lesson is at 9:20 a.m. It lasts(持续) an hour. The students can have a break(休息) from 10:20 a. m. to 10:45 a. m. Most girls like to talk, but most boys like to play ball games.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}After the break, students have the second lesson. During(在.....期间) the first quarter of the lesson, teachers usually have a test(测 试)for the students.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Lunch time is from 12:00 to 1:10 p. m. All students have their lunch at school. After lunch, students like to go to some clubs. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} They can also watch TV, play games or tell stories in the clubs.

Students read some books and have the last lesson in the afternoon.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Then students go home.

The film you see on the screen is the product of a huge amount of hard work. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}To begin with, visual special effects make scenes real. CGI （computer-generated imagery 电子成像技术）has been widely used in film-making. Mostly, scenes with CGI are filmed in front of a green screen in the studio. Green doesn't match any natural hair or skin. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} This enables CGI effects to be added later.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} You may never expect the way that these sounds are added. For example, in Jurassic Park, the sounds of different animals were mixed by a computer. The sound of the doors opening in the Star Trek films was made by pulling a piece of paper out from an envelope.

A careful study of the background information also makes a film's success. To make his film Titanic look real, the director spent six months checking plans and then built a full-sized model ship. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} He even went down to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean to see what was left of the ship.

The above may not include all the work behind the scenes. What we see on the cinema screen is just small parts of film-making. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}They have worked for months and even years so that you can have two hours of enjoyment!

Last year, some locals in Shenzhen suggested cancelling the city's ban（禁令）on fireworks. However, the local government said the city was not ready to allow fireworks.

The government said it was mostly because of the growing power of modern fireworks. Nowadays, in order to improve light effects, firework makers would put more gunpowder in their products. Sometimes, some of these fireworks may go off like small bombs（炸弹）, causing damage and hurting people.

During the last forty years, Shenzhen has developed into a huge city, and most of its population lives in urban（城市的）areas. Now, nearly 20 million people live in an area of just 2,000 square kilometers. In addition, there are at least 1,500 urban villages and 1,000 high-rise buildings.

Other major cities, like Beijing and Shanghai, allow people to set off fireworks at special areas during the Spring Festival this year. Shenzhen, however, has difficulty doing that because there is hardly enough public space, especially in urban villages. There, you will see plenty of "handshake" buildings. These buildings are usually several inches—the distance of a few handshakes—away from each other. If people set off fireworks through their windows, it may cause fire. Therefore, the locals and the government are working together to keep them clean and well-organized. As a result, people can enjoy a happy and safe new year.

Shenzhen made a rule in 2013 to ban fireworks. Once the rule was made, it caught a lot of attention from the public. After much explanation, people started to take it. No major fire has been caused by fireworks since then.

Recently, a junior high school sent several students back home because they broke the school uniform(校服) rules. Should students wear school uniforms? The Young World magazine held a discussion on this topic. 

Kennedy: The school uniform is very important, because it always reminds me that I am supposed to go out of my way to study hard. It also helps prevent school bullying(欺凌). If everyone wears the same clothes, it is impossible to laugh at other people's clothing. 

Manson: The uniform has to be got through hard work. Students should start school with no uniforms. As they make progress at school, they start wearing it. I always think children need to be proud of their schools. The uniform is important for that. So, make students work hard to get it! If they don't behave(表现) well, they should not be allowed to get one. 

Moorhead: In my opinion, kids don't have to wear uniforms. There should be more choices open to kids in education. They should develop their own independence and just be themselves. Their personalities(个性) would be shown through their own clothes at school. And different dress could be one way of showing their understanding of beauty. Besides, they make the school lively and colourful. 

Patrick: I can see the advantages of wearing school uniforms. They play a very important role in managing schools. However, a school should not depend heavily on uniforms to improve students' behaviour. Teaching them how to express themselves with confidence is more important. 

On 8th March, a British man named Charles Eugster set a world record at the age of 95. He competed in the indoor 200m race at the British Masters Athletics Meet in London. He crossed the finishing line after 55.38 seconds and he broke the world record（57.88 seconds）set by American Orville Rogers in 2013.

Later, Eugster shared the good news on Facebook and thanked those who helped him to achieve it.

"I have just broken the M95 World Record in the indoor 200m race!"he wrote."55.38 seconds—I'm over the moon…Thank everyone for helping me achieve this."

After retiring（退休）as a dentist，Eugster took up exercise and played all kinds of sports. He began training as a runner when he was 80 years old. When he was 87， he joined a bodybuilding club. In 2013， he took up competitive track（跑道）.

He said, "I've always competed—competition is good for the body and the mind. Life is about challenges（挑战），and you must always try something new. I want to show that I can learn a completely new sport and that I can be competitive in it."

On the website, Eugster offered some advice on being successful. "Successful aging requires work， diet and exercise. Bodies can now be rebuilt at any age and a new life started."

 There are many clubs in our school. Different students join different clubs.

 On Mondays and Wednesdays after school, Sam and other students are in Classroom 301, and they take turns telling sto ies. This is good for Sam's writing and speaking. Sam also makes friends in the drama club.

 Susan likes English. Every day after school, she comes to Classroom 201 to join in the club activities. The English-speaking students there can help her with her English. They talk to each other in English. Susan gets some useful ways to learn English.

 Andy loves sports. He joins the basketball club. Every Wednesday to Friday, from 5:30p. m. to6:30 p. m., the teacher always shows some skills to the students. Many students like this club.

Laura wants to draw pictures. After school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, she has some classes in the art club. She can learn a lot there. Laura can also talk about drawing with the art teacher and her friends.
