    One rainy evening I went to fill up at the gas station. A poor boy came up to my car and asked me for money to help him and his mother{#blank#}1{#/blank#}in their hotel for another week. They had to leave{#blank#}2{#/blank#}they did not come up with $25. Having worked in social services before, and being a little skeptical (怀疑的) , I asked why his mother hadn't asked social{#blank#}3{#/blank#}for help. The boy said that they needed to{#blank#}4{#/blank#}in their hotel for one more week until his grandmother, who lived out of town, could take them in. I gave the boy what I had—$5. Weeks before, a boy asked me for money and I told him I didn't have any though I did because I didn't believe him.{#blank#}7{#/blank#}, I knew the boy was really poor. "This time," I thought, "I'll do it{#blank#}8{#/blank#}." I went to my bank and got $20, then I returned to the gas station. The boy was {#blank#}9{#/blank#}there. I handed him the $20 bill. He reached through my car window and gave me a{#blank#}10{#/blank#}hug. His hug told me all I needed to know was that finally this kid could get out of the rain.

    Last year I was very lucky to have a week's holiday. So I wanted to spend 1 in the best hotel I could find. That was 2 I chose The Haven in a country park. I thought I would be able to escape problems and pressures of daily life. But, just 24 hours after arriving there, my wife and I 3 problems with the restaurant and security.

    That afternoon, when we returned from a tour around 12 university nearby, we found that nearly £200 13 from our room. The Haven refused to pay back the money. They claimed that they 14 not be responsible for any loss if our window was not locked.

    My holiday was then a total failure. I thought a "haven" was sure to be a quiet and peaceful place. But in fact, I have experienced 15 stress and worry in that one day than I usually do working in the office for a week.

    Gavin Thomas, an 8-year-old American boy, is an online star in China. Chinese fans know him as "fake(假的) smile boy".

    Gavin first came to people's attention when he was only two years old. His uncle, Nick Mastodon, posted a few shot videos of him on Vine, a popular video-sharing site in the US. In one of the videos, Nick put a gecko(壁虎) on Gavin's head. His nervous yet funny reaction soon won him a lot of fans online.

    Gavin is in primary school right now. "We take a lot of photos. My uncle Nick and I make videos together. My family thinks it is really cool for me to have many fans online and my friends in class know that I make videos and take photos," Gavin said.

    On July 12, 2018, Gavin opened an account (账户) on Sina Weibo. In less than four hours, he got more than 400 thousand followers. One day later, it reached 1 million. 4 months later, the number doubled again.

    "I saw Gavin's smiling photo about one year ago when one of my friends sent it to me. My friend was working on the weekends and used the photo to complain about his boss," said Tian Qian, a primary school teacher in Beijing. Gavin's smile expressed her friend's feeling at that moment.

    "We live in a fast-paced (快节奏的) city and are under a lot of pressure. Gavin's smile makes us feel relaxed," Tian said. I have been following him on Weibo and it's very enjoyable to watch his videos. We are happy that he is bringing joy to our lives."
