It is easy for many people to catch a cold in the springtime or fall. It makes us wonder if scientists can send a man to the moon, why can't they find a cure for the common cold? The answer is easy. There are actually different cold viruses out there. You never know which one you will get, so there isn't a cure for each one.

When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it Blood rushes to your nose and causes a block in it. You feel terrible because you can't breathe well, but your body is actually eating the virus. Your temperature goes up and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a runny nose to stop the virus from getting into your cells. You may feel very uncomfortable, but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold.

Different people do different things to deal with colds. In the United States and some other countries, for example, people might have chicken soup to help them get over the cold. Some people take hot baths. Other people take medicine to stop different symptoms(症状)of colds.

There is one interesting thing to note一some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually bad for you. The virus stays in you longer because your body doesn't have a way to fight it and kill it Bodies can do an amazing job on their own. There is a joke, however, on taking medicine when you have a cold. It goes like this:

It takes about one week to get over a cold if you don't take medicine, but it takes only seven days to get over a cold if you take medicine.

In the past, I didn't get on well with my parents. I hardly talked to them, because they liked to compare me with my sister. And that made me {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (happy) and sad. I didn't know {#blank#}2{#/blank#} to do. Sometimes I even {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (argue) with them about this.

However, I wanted to show them that I could do things as {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (good) as my sister. Then I began to spend most of my free time {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (paint) in my bedroom. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (Lucky), my art teacher, Miss Green, offered me a lot of help. She taught me some drawing skills to help improve my paintings. At that time, she was the only person I would like {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (communicate) with.

One day, I told Miss Green {#blank#}8{#/blank#} my problem. She encouraged me to take part in a painting competition. She said the best way to communicate with my parents was to prove (证明) myself to them. After a few weeks' waiting, the result finally came out. I got the first prize! When I took the prize home, my parents were so happy {#blank#}9{#/blank#} they couldn't stop laughing all the time! And they began to care more about me. Now {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (relation) between my parents and me are very good. So I think it's very important to have someone to talk to.

A few years ago we moved to a new city, so I had to change schools. On the first day at my new school, I was really {#blank#}1{#/blank#} . I found it hard to make new friends and hardly said a word to anyone for {#blank#}2{#/blank#} . When the morning break started, I went outside and stood on my own. I was feeling really lonely. Towards the end of break, a girl walked up to me. She introduced {#blank#}3{#/blank#} as Monica and started chatting right away. She was also quite new at the school and we soon {#blank#}4{#/blank#} we had a lot in common. We watched the same TV shows, listened to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} types of music, and we were both learning to play the guitar. Also, we lived just a few minutes' walk from each other! 

Monica and I have been really good friends since that day. Naturally we sometimes argue like everyone does but we're very close. 

Last summer, I went to Yunnan on vacation. Let me tell you about my trip there. 

Yunnan is in the south of our country. It is really a very beautiful place with high mountains, clean rivers and friendly people. Trees and flowers are 1 . Every year, a lot of 2 spend their holidays in Yunnan. 

On the 3 day, I visited the Stone Forest (石林). There are different kinds of stones. Of all the stones, the stone which 4 a beautiful girl named Ashima is the most famous. I took a lot of photos that day. I went to Lijiang on the second day. A river runs 5 the whole town. The river can help you know 6 you are and how to get to different places. If you don't go along the river, 7 you will get lost. I really enjoyed walking around the town. There I saw many buildings. Some of them are new, but some of them are very old. I 8 what life was like there in the past. On the third day, I went to Kunming Zoo. In the zoo, I saw some cute animals, such as elephants, monkeys and peacocks (孔雀). In the evening, I tried Yunnan Cross-Bridge Rice Noodles for dinner. They were really 9 ! I liked them very much.
