How to Celebrate Earth Day

Are you looking for ways to celebrate Earth Day on April 22? You've come to the right place. If you're ready to learn more about joining the global celebration, making real change, and doing your part to save our planet, read on!

Walk or ride your bike.  Even one day can make a difference, but if you can commit(承诺)to walking or biking more often in the future, that's even better! If your daily commute(通勤) is too far for walking or biking, try public transportation like buses or trains.

Plant a tree. This simple act will benefit the environment for decades. Planting a tree only takes a few minutes, but it can make a huge impact.  They help to save energy, clean pollution, and provide homes for many birds, insects, and other local wildlife.

Attend a local Earth Day event.  If your community doesn't have one planned, consider starting one yourself. It's the perfect day to get together for a fun and educational celebration of the earth.

Visit a local farmer's market. Eating locally grow n food is much better for the environment. For example, locally-grown food doesn't have to be transported long distances to end up on grocery store shelves. .

Commit to one green act per day. You can keep reducing your carbon(碳) footprint once Earth Day is over.  While small changes at the individual level may not seem like a big deal, they add up over time and can have a major impact. Moving forward, make it your goal to do one small thing every day to support the environment.

A.Earth Day can be every day!

B.Trees are extremely important.

C.Trees need extra care to grow well.

D.Get out there and appreciate our beautiful world.

E.Going car-free for the day will reduce harmful gases.

F.See if your community is holding an environmental fair.

G.You'll also be giving back to your community by supporting local farmers.

Building Trust in a Relationship Again

Trust is a learned behavior that we gain from past experiences, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} .Trust is a risk. But you can't be successful when there's a lack of trust in a relationship that results from an action where the wrongdoer takes no responsibility to fix the mistake.

Unfortunately, we've all been victims of betrayal. Whether we've been stolen from, lied to , misled, or cheated on, there are different levels of losing trust. Sometimes people simply can't trust anymore, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} . It's understandable, but if you're willing to build trust in a relationship again, we have some steps you can take to get you there.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} having confidence in yourself will help you make better choices because you can see what the best outcome would be for your well-being.

  • {#blank#}4{#/blank#} If you've been betrayed, you are the victim of your circumstance. But there's a difference between being a victim and living with a “victim mentality”. At some point in all of our lives, we'll have our trust tested or violated.
  •             You didn't lose “everything”. Once trust is lost, what is left? Instead of looking at the situation from this hopeless angle, look at everything you still have and be thankful for all of the good in your life. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} instead, it's a healthy way to work through the experience to allow room for positive growth and forgiveness.
  •    A, Learn to really trust yourself.
  •    B, It is putting confidence in someone.
  •    C, Stop regarding yourself as the victim.
  •    D, Remember that you can expect the best in return.
  •    E, They've been too badly hurt and they can't bear to let it happen again.
  •    F, This knowledge carries over in their attitude toward their future relationships.
  •    G, Seeing the positive side of things doesn't mean you're ignoring what happened.

任务型阅读

Did you take part in a camp this summer? {#blank#}1{#/blank#}To choose which camp is best for you, first you must do a bit of research.

Maybe you've never thought about it before, but every great summer camp has the same main goals — opportunity, challenge and growth.

Opportunity means you are given a chance to do something special. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} For example, if you are interested in writing, then you can choose to join a journalism camp. You may even have the opportunity to meet famous journalists there.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} You must finish the task and succeed in overcoming the challenge. Then you will have a sense of accomplishment. For example, you could take a lifeguard course at some summer camps. If you pass the exam, then you will receive a certificate (证书)to become a real lifeguard.

This also leads to the third and most important goal of every great summer camp personal growth. It doesn't mean growing taller and stronger or more beautiful. It means seeing yourself improve, learning something new and doing something you didn't know you could do before. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

So in the future, when choosing your next summer camp, remember to ask yourself: Is it a special opportunity? Is it a challenge? Will I grow?

We adults wouldn't be able to live in today's society without screens, so we shouldn't expect teenagers to do so either. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}It's improved our lives in many ways. Before we start talking about its challenges, we need to realize its opportunities, too.

Deal with the topic like you would nutrition (营养)

If children weren't making good food choices, we would never take their lunches away and make them stay hungry.     These two types of lodging(住宿)have the same basic purpose—a place for travelers to sleep.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} For instance, they came to be for different reasons, and at very different times.

The word “hotel” dates back to the 1600s and comes from a French word, hôtel. That word, just like the English one, referred to a place that provides lodging, meals, entertainment, and other services to travelers. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} This word dates back to the 1920s and combines the words “hotel” and “motor.” As America's major highway system developed, so did motels, filling the need for roadside stops for motorists traveling cross-country.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Hotels tend to be built for longer stays, while motels are intended more for one-or two-night stops along a journey. Because of this, hotels are much more likely to have offerings like lounges, gyms, and entertainment.

G. There are also other differences that can help you figure out which type of place you're in.

Vitamin D was recognized a century ago as the cure for rickets, a childhood disease that causes weak bones. Then, in the early 2000s, a pile of studies suggested that low vitamin D levels could be a factor in cancer, cardiovascular(心血管) disease, Parkinson's disease and so on. This simple vitamin seemed to be a cure for whatever troubled us. However, all these observational studies have a fundamental weakness: they can identify a co-occurrence between vitamin D and a disease, but they can't prove there is a cause-and-effect relation.

To look at whether taking vitamin D had curative effects, Manson and her team started the world's largest and most far-reaching randomized vitamin D trial. The study followed nearly 26,000 healthy adults, randomized to receive either 2,000 international units (IU) of vitamin D or a placebo(安慰剂), for an average of 5.3 years. The volunteers were almost evenly split between men and women, and 20 percent of the participants were black.

The results came as a shock. Not only did vitamin D not reduce rates of cancer or heart disease, but the trial also found that vitamin D did not prevent or improve cognitive function, or reduce the risk of bone fractures(骨折). The finding about fractures "was a real surprise to many people," Manson says.

In 2011, the Institute of Medicine established an expert committee to conduct a thorough analysis of all existing studies on vitamin D and health. The committee concluded that the bone-strengthening benefits of vitamin D remain steady when blood levels reach 12 to 16 nanograms per millililter. They also found that there were no benefits to having levels above 20ng/ml. According to measurements of vitamin D levels in the general U. S. population, most had levels of 20 ng/ml or more in 2011. Levels have actually risen since then, meaning that most people don't need to take extra vitamin D.

The ups and downs of vitamin D offer a lesson in humility. The relation between the vitamin and disease is far more complicated than it first seemed and a reminder that scientific understanding is always developing over time.
