Boyan Slat has one huge goal. It's a goal that could be good for people and a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} all over the world. Amazingly, it looks like he's going to m {#blank#}2{#/blank#}his goal.

    When he was 16  Dutch engineering student Slat was on vacation in Greece, and he started to think about all the rubbish that is p{#blank#}3{#/blank#} onto beaches by water. The oceans around the world are all of plastic—millions of tons of plastic. Unfortunately, plastic doesn't just disappear. It takes c{#blank#}4{#/blank#} to break down (分解).

    The p{#blank#}5{#/blank#} situation of the oceans is bad and worrying and Slat wanted to do something to change it. So he made it a personal goal to clean up the rubbish in the world's oceans.

    Slat started with an idea for an unusual m{#blank#}6{#/blank#} to "catch" the plastic floating (漂浮) in the water using the natural energy of the ocean. He left school in 2013 to begin work on his project The Ocean Cleanup. Soon, the project r{#blank#}7{#/blank#} a lot of attention.

    A year later, he was leading a team of 100 scientists and engineers working on the invention. Slat needed money for this, so he started asking people to d{#blank#}8{#/blank#} to his project online and raised over $ 2 million!

    Soon after, Slat was named a "Champion of the Earth" by the United Nations for his meaningful and v{#blank#}9{#/blank#} work. It's the most important title the UN gives to people helping the environment. The Ocean Cleanup also won several awards (奖项) for having one of the best inventions of 2015. But the d{#blank#}10{#/blank#} goes on for Slat. He hopes that the oceans will be free of plastic in about twenty or thirty years.

    Mary likesto run. Ever since she was in the third grade, she has been training to runlong distances. Now that she was in her eighth grade, her parents agreed to lether run in the Banana Classic. The Banana Classic is a ten-kilometre race. Ittakes place every year in Mattydale. The winners get a lifetime supply (提供) of peanuts and fruit juice.

    Marypractised by running ten kilometres, twice every day. On the average (平时的) run, she would finish inthirty minutes. Last year's winner finished the race in twenty-six minutes andten seconds!

    On the dayof the race, Mary ran faster than she ever had in the past. As she came acrossthe last kilometre, she was in the fourth place. She picked up the pace (步伐) and quickly reached the secondplace, just as she could see the finishing line. She ran as fast as she couldin a mad dash (冲刺) to the finish line, but she justwasn't fast enough to get ahead of the leader.

My mother only has one eye. I don't want her to show up (出现)at my school.

One day I am ill. My mother comes. "Your mom only has one eye!" yell some of my classmates. I wish my mother will disappear(消失).

"If you embarrass(使——尴尬) me, why don't you just die?" I shout at her. My mother is very sad, she just hands me some medicine and leaves(离开) without saying anything.

I don't think I hurt her feeling very much. I see my mom crying(哭) in her room. Even so, I hate her tears from one eye. I make a decision：I must study hard and leave my mother.

Years later my dream comes true. I am quite successful(成功的) but I don't go to see my "ugly" mother. One day I get a letter from my mother.

"My son I am sorry I only have one eye. When you are two years old, you are ill and lost your eye. As a mom, I can't let you live with only one eye. So I give you my eye. I am not angry with you and I never regret(后悔) it because I love you." I cry aloud. How beautiful my mother is!

I still remember it was a sunny Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma City. My father 1 his two little boys to play miniature golf (迷你高尔夫). He walked up to the person at the ticket counter(售票柜台) and said, "How much is it to get2 ?"

 The young man said, "$3 for 3 and $3 for any kid older than 6. We let them in 4 if they are 6 or younger. 5 are they?" "The younger one is 3 and the older one is 7. " My father answered. The man at the ticket counter said, "Hey, Mister, did you just 6 the lottery(彩票) or something? You could 7 yourself three dollars. You could 8 me that the older one was 6;I wouldn't know the 9 . " My father said, "Yes, that might be true, 10 the kids would know the difference. " He was 11 . I did learn the difference. My father paid the 12 price for my ticket-as well as taught me an important 13 . 

 As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Who you are speaks so loudly I can't 14 what you' re saying. " In times when ethics(道德) are more 15 than ever, make sure you set a good example for everyone around you. 

 The koala is unique(独特的) to Australia and is an important symbol of the country. The koala is found in open cucalypt(桉树) forests in south-east Queensland. Even if it is called koala bear, this animal has nothing to do with the actual bear. Koalas have thick fur and large ears. Their broad, flat nose makes them look cute, similar to teddy bears. In fact koalas aren't cute. They have sharp teeth and very sharp claws (爪)! Koalas are marsupials(有袋类). This means the mother carries her baby in a pocket while it develops, like a kangaroo. The baby koala lives in its mother's pocket for the first six months of its life.

 The name"koala" comes from a native Australian word that means"no drink". The koalas get almost all their water from the eucalyptus leaves they eat. That's where they get their food too. Koalas eat only eucalyptus leaves. The eucalyptus trees are where the koalas live and also where they sleep. Koalas sleep about nineteen hours a day!

 Why do they sleep so much? Some people think it's because they' re lazy. But koalas aren't lazy. They sleep so much because there isn't much nutrition(营养) in cucalyptus leaves. Koalas store hardly any fat, so they must save their energy. One way to do this is to move slowly and sleep a lot. After a day of sleeping they like to move around and ea t just after sunset. They live alone most of the time. Koalas are very protective of their trees. If a koala sees another koala eating in its favorite tree, it might tell the other koala to leave by"barking" at it. Koalas do"talk" to each other. Besides barks, the males make a deep . grunting (呼噜的) sound. The mothers and babies talk in soft clicking sounds. If they get scared they may scream(尖叫) like a baby. The koala is also an excellent swimmer.

 They are able to cross rivers to escape from heavy flooding(泛滥).
