Huadan is the young female role in Peking Opera. "Funny and beautiful"— these are what the artist worked hard for, according to the film's director Qian Yunda.
Another cartoon, Little Tadpole Looking for Mummy was drawn with ink and brush. The designers learned from the great artist Qi Baishi. The black tadpoles (蝌蚪), pink flowers, yellow chickens and red goldfish… all come to life! Cartoon artists painted in both realistic and poetic(富有诗意的) styles. They used simple and thin lines to paint character, but they used the ink wash painting style to paint mountains, trees and water.
