I started learning English at the age of 22. It is kind of 1 to start studying a language. However, age is never a problem if you really want to 2 something.I was preparing myself to study engineering in the USA. To enter（进入）my dream university, I had to 3 a TOEFL score（托福分数）of 90 or higher. After careful thought, I signed up for（ 报名参加）a six-month program to study English.

It was 4 to get 90 in six months for someone who started learning English from the very beginning, but I decided to have a try. In order to join the 5 , I moved to a different city and rented（租用）a house with a friend. We were in the same program. We did not have any distractions（使人分心的事物）in 6 house, such as televisions, computers or smartphones.

We had classes every day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 7 a lunch break only. After the classes were over, we had something for dinner and started 8 what we had learned and doing homework. We would study 9 we became sleepy, and usually we would finish it by midnight.My friend and I encouraged each other and we did our best. 10 , we both got perfect TOEFL scores and went to the USA at last.

Bill was a boy of 15. His parents went to gambling (赌博) day and night. 

Nobody cared about him. He always failed in his exams. So his teachers didn't like him, nor did his classmates play with him. Bill often slept in class because his heart was not in school. He almost gave himself up. 

One day, Miss Jones, a new teacher, came to Bill's class. She was a smiling, beautiful woman. Bill was in love! For the first time in his young life, he couldn't take his eyes off his teacher. 

It was Miss Jones' class. She was asking a question. "I'd like the smartest boy to answer my question. " Then she said loudly, "Bill, please!" Bill was surprised. And he stood up without a word. 

"Just try it! I believe you can!" After school, Miss Jones had a long talk with Bill. She told him that she cared about him and believed in him. 

Bill thought a lot that evening. From then on, he arrived at school on time every day. Miss Jones helped him with his homework in the afternoon. She even cooked delicious food for him. She told Bill, "Nothing is impossible if you put your heart in it. "

Later, Miss Jones gave another exam. Bill did it with all his heart. He was very excited to find that he had passed the exam. Now Bill discovered that not only could he learn, but he could do it well. A change took place in Bill's heart. 

You see, one teacher saved one boy. It's simple, really. 

One day, a boy didn't sell a piece of bread all the morning. He felt tired and sad. Then he said to himself,"I should find a cool place to rest for a while and go on selling the bread. What if good luck happens to me?"

 When he found a cool wall to rest on, an old woman walked over and said," Child, you look very tired but you didn't sell a single bread, right?"

 The boy asked in a low voice," What do you suggest I should do now?"

" Don't sell it any more. Go home quickly, my poor child." The old woman kindly said and then left.

A young man heard their conversation and he walked over. He said to the boy,"I don't agree with her. You should keep waiting. Don't lose your heart." The boy looked up at the young man and his eyes were full of hope again. After a while, the boy walked back to sell his bread.

 Suddenly, a car stopped. A young woman in the car said to the boy," Hey, little boy. It's good to see you here. I want to buy all your bread for the children in our Hope House."

A little stream ran down from a high mountain far, far away through many villages and forests, until she reached a desert (沙漠). The stream then thought, "I've been through thousands of millions of difficulties. I should have no problems crossing this desert!" But as she started her journey, she found herself slowly disappearing into the sand. After many tries, she still failed and was very unhappy. "Maybe I can't reach the ocean in the end." she said sadly to herself.

At this time, a deep voice came, "If a breeze (微风) can cross the desert, so can a stream." It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream replied, "That's because a breeze can fly, but I cannot." "That's because you can't give up what you are. If you like to do it, let yourself evaporate (蒸发) into the breeze. It can take you across, and you can reach the ocean." said the desert.

"Give up what I am now and disappear into the breeze? No! No!" The little stream could not accept this idea. After all, she had never experienced anything like it before.

"The breeze can carry the vapor (蒸气) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a stream again to continue its course." explained the desert very patiently.

"And whether you're a stream or vapor, your nature never changes." continued the desert. Hearing this, the little stream rushed into the open arms of the breeze, which carried her to the next stage of her life.

The course of our lives is like the experience of the little stream. If you want to overcome the difficulties in your life to get success, you should also change the way you used to be.
