Once there were several scientists in a forest. They were trying to 1 the rarest animal in the world. No one had seen it, so everyone was 2 and wanted to be the first one to photograph and study it.

    The animal only came out at night, 3 the scientists did some other studies in the day. 4 them, there was a famous scientist named Walter. Every day, he would spend an hour sitting at the desk and putting all his equipment (设备) in the 5 place. He did this carefully. But other scientists laughed at him because they thought Walter was just wasting 6.

When Millie got up this morning, she found it was a beautiful spring day. She saw some 1 in the sky，but she didn't think about them．She woke up her dog，Eddie，and put him in the 2 ．Then she drove out into the country 3 a picnic with her dog．

When they got to a big tree, Millie stopped her car and told Eddie to get off the car. They began to play games under the 4 . How happy they were!     2the way, I began to worry: I knew that she had no money, but if I offered to3the lunch, I was afraid I must hurt her.

    There were many people in the4and all of them were happy. Rose told me to sit and drink coffee by the window. Then she went into the5. I didn't know what happened. After about 20 minutes, she came out with some food. Then we started to enjoy the delicious food together. She told me that the restaurant allowed people to work for a meal6they had no money. The restaurant also might give them a free meal if they were not7to work, especially for the disabled.

    I 8remember the beautiful afternoon I shared with Rose. We had a meal, and Rose paid for it by her work. The weather was9and bright, and everyone's smile was warm and bright as well.

    I'm still thinking that life cannot be easy to us, but we can still do something for our friends and other people. The world will be10if everybody would like to share happiness with others.

    Several days ago, we had an exam. When the first day's exam 1; we checked the answers with each other. I found some of my answers were 2 from my classmates'. Since I didn't do 3in my subjects, I thought they were right and I was wrong.

    The math questions were 4 difficult that I couldn't finish them. There were at least 35 points lost. So5 the physics exam. I made many mistakes. Watching my classmates' happy 6; I was deadly sad. I leaned on the desk 7. I wanted to cry but it seemed that there were not any tears. I could do nothing but go on with 8 exams. I shouldn't give up. I decided to listen to some music so that I could be calm（冷静的） and confident in the other exams. Thank goodness! The music did work! I became9. And I did better than before. I got good marks in the others.

    From these exams, I learnt that we must have confidence（自信心） in whatever we do. Confidence is the first step to10. If we study hard, success is just right there waiting for us.

    Doctor Seuss was born in 1904. By the middle 1950s, he had become one of the best loved and most successful children's book writers in the world. His books are very popular with young readers. They enjoy the invented words and the pictures of unusual funny animals and plants. In 1954, life magazine published a report about school children who could not read. The report said many children's books were not interesting. Doctor Seuss strongly hoped to help children and decided to write books that were interesting and easy to read. He used words with the same ending sound, like fish and wish. He did not receive training in art. Yet, he drew the pictures for most of his books.

    In 1957, Dr. Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat. He used less than 230 words to write the book and even a six-year-old should be able to read it. It was a fun story and easy to read. Children loved it. Their parents loved it, too. Today it is still one of the stories they like best. The success of The Cat in the Hat made him want to write more books for children. In 1960, he wrote a book using less than fifty words. The book is called Green Eggs and Ham. In 1984, Doctor Seuss won a Pulitzer Prize（普利策奖）. He was honored for the education and enjoyment his books provided American children and their parents. He died at the age of 87, but his influence remains.

    Millions of his books have been sold worldwide. People say his books helped change the way American children learned to read. Yet, his books are loved by people of all ages. Doctor Seuss once said, "I do not write for children. I write for people."
