A man had a lovely house. It was so1 that many people would pay double (双倍) its price to have it. He never said yes,2 . People wondered why, but he said3 about this. 

One day, the man's house caught fire(着火). The fire was to big to4 , so the man just had to watch it even though he5 the house most. Then, the man's6 son came up behind him. He said, "Don't worry, Father.7 paid an excellent price for the house yesterday, so I sold it." As soon as the man heard that, he got a(n)8 but soon became relaxed.

Soon, the man's second son came. He looked9 and said, "Here's bad news. The buyer only gave us a small amount (数量) of10 . I'm afraid he won't want the house now." The man had tears(眼)in his eyes. 

Then, his third son came.11 he said made everyone feel good. He said, "The buyer is a good man. He just told me he would still12 it. We couldn't know about the fire. He couldn't,13 ." After that,14 of them watched the burning house with no worries.

A man of his word(说话算话的人) should get the most respect(尊重). When he keeps his word he may15 something. However, he can always bring other people a lot more.

I looked into the mirror and checked if I was dressed up properly, YES! My hair was clean and my tie was straight. So I confidently(自信地) went to the stage(舞台), imagining how proud my parents would be of their son! That evening, I was the pianist playing in the school concert for the first time. When the concert was over, I couldn't wait to share my joy with my family. However, only my mother was there. She explained, "Son, your dad is called out to work."

I was a little unhappy, though not very surprised. Because it was not the first time that my father was absent. As a manager in a big telecommunications(电信) company, my father was very busy with his work all year around. In fact, I didn't have much time with him. Every time when I complained about it, my father always said, "Everyone has his responsibility, and I have mine."

Later, I had a chance to visit father's company. He pointed to a big iron(铁) tower and said, "Son, that is a base station. Do you know that 25 percent of the calls in our country are through the network(网络) we built?" "Wow! But it's hard work. You know, China started late in many ways. We have to work hard and sometimes even give up time with family."

Now, more and more people are amazed at the Chinese miracle(奇迹). If any foreign friend asks me who makes the Chinese miracle, I want to tell that behind the miracle there are always a lot of people like my father. 

Ken is a worker in a newspaper. He works hard and is self-confident (自信) when he works as an advertisement salesman (销售员). Every time Ken begins his work, he will do some preparation (准备). He closes the door, stands before the mirror and reads the bosses' names ten times. But this time, his workmates think the task is very hard and it is impossible to finish. 

With his great effort (努力), three bosses change their mind and make a deal with him the first day. Three days later he finishes another three tasks. One month passes, only a boss still refused to cooperate (合作) with him. 

Ken works harder. He tries to learn something about his company and his family, and visits the boss every day. Every morning, when the boss opens his door, he sees Ken outside his company smiling to him and waiting for his answer.  ★  He keeps on visiting him every day. The boss asks him why. 

"It is like having a class. You're really a good teacher. You're teaching me how to keep it up when I want to do something important,"Ken answers. 

The boss nods, "In fact, you're my teacher. You're teaching me what is the power of perseverance."

 Alice is a star lover. Whenever she looks at the sky, she always 1 what stars there are.

 One evening, when she was sitting 2 on the school observatory deck(天文台) with her telescope(望远镜), she noticed another student, Ben. looking at the sky.

 The boy turned around, his voice breaking the 3 , "Hey, Alice, right? I'm Ben." He said, "I' ve seen 4 in the astronomy(天文) club. Did you use the telescope to watch the stars?"

"Yeah," Alice 5 with a smile. "I was trying to find the Big Dipper(北斗七星)." Ben' s eyes lit up. "That's6 ! I' ve been trying to find it for ages. Maybe you can help me sometime?"

 Alice thought for a moment but then agreed. "Sure, I'd be happy to."

 For the next few weeks, Alice and Ben spent many evenings together, discussing the 7 to share their knowledge about astronomy. Alice was 8 to find someone who shared her love for the stars.

 One night, when they were 9 a meteor(流星) shower, they were attracted by the beauty of the meteor shower. Ben said, "You know, I' ve always wanted to become an astrophysıcist(天体物理学家). What about you?"

Seeing that, Mrs Li asked, "Can you draw?"

"Then how about drawing a picture of you on the blackboard?" Mrs Li asked with a smile.

Nana's eyes met hers, and {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (突然) Nana didn't feel nervous at all.

Nana walked towards the blackboard. She thought for a moment and {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(开始) to draw with chalk (粉笔). Soon a nice picture appeared on the blackboard. The {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(整个的) class shouted, "Wow! The girl in the picture looks {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(几乎) the same as her," many students said. 

"Then how about drawing a picture of you on the blackboard?" Mrs Li asked with a smile.

"Wonderful!" Mrs Li said. "Thanks for your picture."

Hearing the nice words, Nana felt happy. She said, "Hi, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(每个人). Nice to meet you. I'm Nana and I'm 13 years old. My hobby is drawing and It feels great to enjoy the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(乐趣) of drawing together with you. Thank you."
