The Other Side of the Wall

    There was a young woman who took great pride in her flower garden. She was raised by her grandmother who taught her to love and take care of flowers. So her flower garden was the 1.

    One day, while she was looking through a flower list she often 2 the flowers from, suddenly a picture of a plant caught her eyes. She had never 3 blooms(花) on a flower like that before. “I have to have it,” she said to 4, and she ordered it at once.

When it arrived, she already had a 5 prepared to plant it. She planted it at the back of her yard. It grew well, with beautiful green leaves all over it, 6 there were no blooms. Day after day she continued to water it, feed it, and she even talked to it, trying to make it bloom. However, it was 7.

    One morning, a few weeks later, when standing before the vine(藤), she felt very 8 that her plant had not bloomed. She was giving thought to  9 it down and planting something else in its place.

    It was at this point that her neighbor, whose 10 joined hers, called over to her. “Thank you so much! You can't imagine how much I have 11 the blooms of that vine you planted.” The young woman walked 12 the gate into her neighbor's yard, and she saw that on the other side of the wall the vine was 13 with blooms.

    They were indeed the most beautiful blooms she had 14 seen. The vine had grown through the crevices (缝隙) and it had not flowered on 15 side of the wall, but it had flowered on the other side.

    Sometimes one may not see the good result of his effort (努力), but that doesn't mean it isn't successful.

    Teenager Jake Deham was skiing with his family in the USA when he fell over and lost one of his skis(滑雪板). His family didn't know that he had a problem. They 1 skiing. When they got to the foot of the mountain, there was no 2of Jake.

    Jake couldn't find his ski 3 In the end, he decided to 4 his other ski and walk down the mountain. But he couldn't work out the right way to go.

    It was now getting dark and he was a long way from any place of safety. He knew that he might die that night in the5 temperatures. But Jake kept 6 At home, Jake watched a lot of TV programmes about living in difficult situations. He remembered the 7 from these programmes and knew that he should build a hole in the snow. He made a hole and pointed(指向) it up the hill 8 the wind couldn't blow into it. Outside his hole, the temperature 9to a dangerous -15℃ that night, but inside it Jake was safe from the cold.

    But he had to get down the mountain. The 10 always said,“ If you are lost, you should find someone else' s tracks(足迹) through the snow and 11them.” “I wanted to live my life.” remembers Jake. “So I got up and I found some ski tracks and I followed those.” He walked and walked and finally he saw lights. Nine hours 12he lost his ski, he found a team of workers who came to save him. He was safe!

    His mum was very happy when she heard the news.13 Jake didn't even have to go to hospital. He got through the terrible experience 14any injuries(损伤).

    So, the next time someone says that watching TV is a waste of time, think of Jake. Sometimes TV can 15 your life!

    John sat next to me when we were in No.1 Middle School. He had a serious 1 in communicating (交流) with people. One always had to guess what he was saying. Besides(此外), 2 of my classmates did not like to be with him because his hands and shirts were always 3. I tried to let him know the importance of being clean by 4 him many times a day to wash his hands. But he just could not understand.

    One day, our teacher Miss Lee walked up to John. 5 saying anything, she took John to the washroom. Slowly, Miss Lee washed his 6 and told him that he should keep himself clean. She did that every day for one month. 7, John understood.

    On a cold snowy evening, a rich lady was standing by the road. She looked very worried because her 1 broke down and she had already waited for an hour. Just then a poor man named Robert came. He was on his way back (to the) 2 from the interview* of a company.

    The lady thought "Is the man going to 3 me? He looks so cold and hungry." 4 to her surprise, he stopped and said with a smile. "Can I help you, Madam?"

    After forty 5, the car was at last fixed* by Robert. The lady wanted to pay him.

    "No, that's 6, Madam, "he said. "I was just helping someone in need. If you really want to pay me back, I 7 whenever you see someone in need, you should give him a hand."

    A few minutes later, the lady saw a shabby* house by the road. She remembered Robert's words, so she stopped.

    The hostess warmly asked her 8. And the Lady could see that it was a 9 family and that they needed help. When the hostess was making tea in the kitchen, the lady 10 500 dollars on a table and went away quietly.

    Robert came home later than before, thinking how 11 their life was. His wife was pregnant and the baby would be born the next month but there was not enough money. His wife went up to him, gave him a kiss, just like what she 12 did. Robert hugged his wife, "Honey, I am so sorry. I haven't 13 the interview yet. Tomorrow I will try another company." His wife said 14, "Don't worry, dear！Everything's going to be all right. A stranger helped 15 out."

    Let's always be ready to help others because helping others is helping ourselves.

    She had been shopping with her Mom in Wal Mart. She must have been 6 years old. It was 1outside. We all just stood 2the door of the Wal Mart. "Mom, let's run through the rain," she said with a 3 voice." What? "Mom asked." Let's run through the rain! "She repeated." No, honey. We'll wait until it 4 down a bit." Mom replied.

    This young child waited about 5 minute and repeated, "Mom, let's run through the rain."

    "We'll get wet if we do," Mom said. "No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the young girl said." This morning? 6 did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?" "Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, 'If God can get us 7this, he can get us through anything! "

    The entire crowd became dead silent. I dare say you couldn't hear anything but the 8. We all stood silently. Mom stopped to for a moment about what she would say. "Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If we get wet, maybe we just need  9," Mom said. Then off they ran.

    We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they  10 past the cars. They held their shopping bags over their 11 just in case. They got wet. But they were12by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the 13 to their cars. And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing. Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions (财产), they can take away your money, and they can take away your  14. But no one can ever take away your precious 15. So, don't forget to take time and take the opportunities to make memories.
