Until the beginning of July, there has been no rain in northern Italy for over 100 days. Add to that the high temperatures, and the locals get very dry conditions. This is the most serious dry spell(干旱期)for that area in the past 70 years. Because of this situation, the country's longest river, the Po, is drying up!

This is bad news for several different reasons. The fresh water of the Po provides drinking water for northern Italy. Besides, farmers in this area need the water of the Po to keep their crops growing. What's more, the flowing river water is used to create about half of the hydroelectric power(水力发电)for Italy. Its drying up means that more natural gas(天然气) will be used, which is bad for the environment.

There have been some interesting discoveries from this lack of rain, however. Between Florence and Milan, a long ship sunk (沉没)in 1943 appeared because of the low water levels of the river. Now many tourists and locals come to see this ship. A German tank has also appeared out of water near Mantua. At other places along the river, people can even walk on the sandy river bed. Although this may be interesting, people in Italy and around the world are hoping for the return of rain to refill the Po!

Many drivers are not very clear about the roads in strange places. Especially, the navigation(导航) just tells the exit number, which makes it easy for drivers to get on the wrong road. However, now you don't have to worry about these complicated(复杂的) roads anymore. Lane(车道)level navigation based on the Beidou satellite system(北斗卫星系统) will be popular in China very soon.

The socalled lanelevel navigation uses highlycorrect technology to show us the real road situation. Compared with past navigation, it can provide exact road guidance in some complicated parts to help drivers choose the best way.

In January 2023, an online map officially introduced an enhanced version(加强版) of lanelevel navigation, which helped make good use of the Beidou satellite system more deeply. It greatly improved the speed of receiving information and giving answers and the accuracy of accuracy lanelevel positioning.

In the new version of the online map, lanelevel navigation can be used on all kinds of roads. The new version has a different advantage from the old one: it can guide us clearly where to go in complicated crossings.

In big cities, for drivers who come to these cities for the first time, overhead bridges make it easy to make driving mistakes in strange places. So how does lanelevel navigation solve the problem? After careful study, planning and organization, lanelevel navigation uses the Beidou satellite system to improve the positioning accuracy and guide drivers.

For the driverless industry, this map is a good piece of technology, which makes it safer and more widely used.

Artificial intelligence (人工智能) , or AI for short, has become an important part of our daily life. It is certain that Al will have a great effect on education in the next few years. Let's see how!

The role of teachers

What will the role of teachers be in this robotic classroom of the future? Many teachers worry that Al will take their jobs. Actually, human teachers will always be needed to manage the classroom environment and encourage students. A large part of education for children is teaching them social-emotional skills. While Al programs have proven they can teach students to read and solve math problems, teaching social-emotional skills is more complex (复杂的) . That kind of learning needs the human touch that only teachers can provide.

Classrooms

Certain tasks can be made easier through the use of AL. Grading, for example, can be done quickly and easily by using AI. In the future, some believe Al will even be able to tell if students are having problems with a certain subject based on their facial (面部的) expressions alone. AI can also provide a chance of receiving an education for those who have hearing problems or are unable to speak the local language.

AI outside the classroom

AI in education is extending (延伸) outside the classroom, too. The technology is also being used to help students prepare for tests, such as college entrance exams. It can also help them with their homework.

Has your school used AI? Do you think Al is the future of education?

 阅读理解

It was a February afternoon. We were in a classroom. Taylor Angler watched some ducks swimming on a farm. But it was all in her head. A virtual reality headset(虚拟现实头戴式显示设备) took her there. "I was surprised to find that the ducks were right in front of me! It was an exciting experience(经历)." Taylor said after taking off the purple headset and finding herself still in the classroom. Many students around the world are taking VR "trips" like Taylor. But what change does it cause in learning?

Taking children to visit different places is a good way to teach them about the world. But what can children do if they forget it after the trip? VR lets children go back at any time.

It's difficult to talk about something if you didn't see it with your own eyes in the past. If you didn't see the ocean, with VR, now you can have a look at it for yourself.

VR can also help students in science classes at school. "Too often at school, when you do experiments(实验), you put different kinds of chemicals together and then get the result. And if you aren't successful, you need to do it again," a high school teacher said. "But we don't have enough chemicals. With VR, I just need to do it again on the computer. I don't have to use chemicals."

VR is useful, but that's not to say we don't need real-world experiences. The real world is what we really need to learn about.

 词汇运用。

Tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world. It is not only good for our {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(健康), but also a key part of many cultures. Different people have different ideas about tea.

In Chengdu, there are as many {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(茶馆) as leaves in a cup of tea! Feng Tao's grandpa used to take him there. There, Grandpa and his friends drank tea and shared their {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(消息). Now Feng Tao is studying abroad. Most of his classmates prefer {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(咖啡), but he always chooses green tea. It's more than a drink for him. A cup of warm tea always makes him feel like he is back home.

Emma Jones, a foreigner, says that it's no {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(秘密) that British love afternoon tea. But actually, they drink tea all day. Her {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(丈夫) can drink eight cups a day! When her kids were young, she always made milk tea for them after school. Now they're {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(成年人), but they only come back at weekends or during the festivals. They {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(闲聊) and relax in the yard with black tea. With some {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(饼干), they think the taste will be nicer. They also think it's their way of {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(连接).

Many people will feel relaxed after tasting tea. It's well worth trying!
