Every child has a dream of what they want to be, right? When Rence Butts was little, her dream was to become a volunteer firewoman because her father was a fireman. Sadly, when she was fourteen, her father died(死)and she was never able to volunteer with him. Rence's story doesn't end there. She was strong and never gave up, at last she became a good firewoman.

    I think she's great. She's always glad to do anything for anyone in need. With 140 people in her station, Rence is one of the only three women. What's more, she is always glad to help others.

    What Rence did helps me believe that I can do anything. I hope someday to be just like her:

    David found that he was a bit fat these days. He went to buy an exercise machine so that he could try to lose some weight(减肥).

    At first, he put it in the basement(地下室).But he did not use it often. He seldom went into the basement.

    May 12th, 2018 is the 10^th anniversary of Wenchuan Earthquake. Many of us may have remembered what happened on May 12th, 2008. The devastating 7.9 magnitude Sichuan earthquake which killed about 90, 000 people in western China. It has been concerned(担忧) widely about what we can do when we encounter(遭遇) certain accidents. Therefore, how to deal with accidents in our daily life?

    Earthquake is the first thing that I am going to talk about. Firstly, you need to rush to open space quickly if you are in a lower floor. Meanwhile, you should avoid trees or wires around you.     Another accident is drowning. Every summer, about 5, 000 kids die because of swimming alone in the river or the lake.     Each year millions of new cars are produced in America. Americans will not live without cars! However, some have realized the serious problem of air pollution caused by cars. It is necessary to find ways to work out the problem of air pollution.

    One way to clean the air is to build a new kind of clean car. That's what several of the large car factories are trying to do. But to build a clean car is easier said than done. Progress in this field has been slow.

    Another way is to take the place of the car engine by something else. Engineers are now working on it. Many makers believe that it will take years to develop a practical model that can make people pleased.

    To prevent the world from being polluted by cars, Americans have to make some changes in the way of their life. They have to cut down on the number of their cars and they are encouraged to travel and go to work by bike. But this change does not close down – many workers may find themselves without jobs if a car factory closes down. And the problem of their pollution would become less important than that of losing jobs.

    People who are scared of heights should try not to drive over a new bridge in Guizhou. The new bridge, called the Beipanjiang Bridge, is the highest one in the world. Located near Bijie in Guizhou Province, the bridge stands 565 meters above a deep river. It connects the mountainous provinces of Guizhou and Yunnan. Just how high is the new bridge? Think of a 200-storey(层) building.

    Guizhou Province is already home to seven of the ten highest bridges in China. The Beipanjiang Bridge has just overtaken (超过t ) the Sidu River Bridge in Hubei Province to become the world's highest。

    The building of the Beipanjiang Bridge started in 2012 and it was opened to traffic (通车) on December 29 ,2016. It cost about 100 million yuan.

    The Beipanjiang Bridge is part of a highway（高速公路) connecting Hangzhou City in Zhejiang Province and Ruili City in Yunnan Province. The bridge is 1, 341 4 meters long and it cuts the travel time from Liupanshui in Guizhou to Xuanwei in Yunnan from around five hours to just over an hour。

    China is no stranger to record-breaking bridges. The second- and third-highest bridges in the world are also locateed in the country. The Beipanjiang Bridge is five meters higher than the previous（先前的）record holder.
