In the past, many people used horses for traveling,farming and other kinds of work.A lot of people still like to ride horses.And horse racing is also popular.So it is not surprising that Americans use this animal when they talk.
Long ago,rich or important people rode horses which were very tall.Today, if a girl acts like she is better than everyone else,you might say she should get off her high horse .
Yesterday my children wanted me to take them to the playground.But I had to finish my work, so I said."Hold your horses . Wait until I finish what I am doing." My two boys like to compete against each other and play in a noisy and not very careful way.I always tell them to stop horsing around or someone could get hurt. Last night,I got a telephone call while I Was watching my favourite TV show.I decided not to answer it because wild horses could not drag(拖,拽)me away from the television.There was nothing that could stop me from doing what I wanted to do.
Sometimes you get information straight from the horse's mouth . Let us say your teacher tells you there is going to be a test tomorrow.You could say you got the information straight from the horse's mouth .
You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink . That means you can give someone advice but you cannot force him to do something he does not want to do.

Secrets of top students
⒈ Example One: "If I don't understand what my teacher is explaining in the science, I ask him to say it again," says Anna Lee. "also asking more helped a lot." {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
⒉ Example Two: "When a teacher asks us to do a lot of homework," says Dave Roman " I will draw up a timetable and plan to do it little by little, so it isn't so tiring. " {#blank#}2{#/blank#}
⒊ Example Three: One student put a vocabulary list on the wall of the bathroom. He learned a new word every day while brushing his teeth. Another student used the time to remember biology terms while practicing running. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}
⒋ Example Four: In high school, Mike played football, painted and was in the band. "I was so busy that I couldn't waste time looking for a pencil or missing paper. I kept everything in order." He says. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}
⒌ Example Five: Christi is an excellent student at the university. If her math teacher asks her to do five problems, she does ten. If the history teacher asks her to read five pages, she reads ten. "Part of learning is practicing," she says, "and the more you practice, the more you learn." {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
A.Plan your time well. B.Get your things in order. C.Speak out and ask more. D.Study anywhere or everywhere. E.Do more than you are asked. F.Make yourself busy |
A. you can get clean air when walking in the mountains B. you will forget all the problems in life C. having a picnic is the most wonderful thing to do D. you can walk there every day E. it's good for your health |
Do you like walking? Walking is a good activity and {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.
You can start with short walks around your house if it's safe (安全的) enough to do that. So you can try walking from your house to your nearby friends' houses. And if your school isn't too far from your home, {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.
When you are hiking(徒步旅行) in the mountains, forests, or other beautiful places, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}.
It's a good way to run away from them and you will be happier. Also, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. What's more, you can also do all kinds of things, like having a picnic, singing songs or taking pictures. And I think {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.
Teaching your child to read can be one of the most rewarding(值得的) experiences you have as a parent.
{#blank#}1{#/blank#}
Nothing can replace the head start(起步时的优势) that a child receives from becoming familiar(熟悉的) with books and the way that the written word sounds when reading aloud. If your child sees that reading is important to you, then he will be much more likely to want to learn how to read himself.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#}
If your child shows interest in learning letters and looking through books, he may be ready to begin learning to read. Learning how to read cannot be rushed. If your child has no interest in learning his letters, then wait a month or so and try again.
{#blank#}3{#/blank#}
You can make this fun, such as saying "I see a [k]-[ӕ]-[t]-cat" whenever you see a cat. The sound of a letter is much more important than a letter's name because the child will need to combine the letter sounds to make words.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#}
Some children learn their letters faster by seeing or hearing them, while other children learn letters by using their bodies. Encourage your child to draw the letter and then paste pictures of something that begins with that sound onto the letter. Sing songs about the letter. Read your child a story that repeatedly uses that letter sound.
{#blank#}5{#/blank#}
Rather than try to teach a child 26 new letters at one time, focus on one letter a day or a week. This enables the child to master each letter sound and feel proud of himself/herself for doing so.
A. Show your child your love for reading. B. Make sure your child is ready to begin learning how to read. C. Focus on one letter at a time. D. Teach your child the sound of each letter. E. Use sight, sound and touch as you teach each letter. |
Four ways to have a good school life
Your schooldays should be some of the best and happiest days of your life. How can you get the most from them and be sure you do not waste(浪费) this great chance to learn?
Be active (积极的) at school
Don't say things are difficult or boring. Take interest in school life and your school subjects. Join lots of activities. Put up your hands quickly in class. Go around the school with a big smile. If you are not working, you are wasting your time at school. Teachers cannot make everything enjoyable (令人愉快的).
Keep fit
If you do not eat a good breakfast, you will be thinking about food in class. If you go to bed late and do not have enough sleep, you will be sleepy in class. Play enough sports every day in order to keep your body strong.
Face the problem
Do not say you will do things tomorrow. If you get behind the class, it is very difficult to get back in front. You cannot finish the race if you rest all the time. Everyone fails some exams, loses some matches and has bad days. Don't make small problems seem very big and important. Don't forget to ask for help. You are young and no one thinks you must do everything quite well!
Spend the weekends
Don't waste time lying in bed on Saturday or Sunday morning. Go and play a sport, get together with friends in the park to relax, or learn to play the piano. If you don't want to go out, there are also a lot of things to do. You may read a book, practice English or help parents with housework. Follow our advice, and have a happy school life!
