Mrs Brown lived alone in a small flat, She was old and didn't like 1   at all. So she was very  2  when the excited young man and woman in the flat above moved out. A new young man moved    3  , and Mrs Brown thought, “Well, he looks   4   .” But at three o'clock the next morning, she was woken up by the barking(叫) of a dog.

    “I've  5heard the dog barking here before,” she thought. “It  6  be the young man's dog.” So she telephoned the young man at once,     7    some unpleasant things to him, rang off the telephone and went to bed  8  he could answer.

    One evening, I went out for a walk on the path (小路) near my house with my husband. On my finger was a very special ring with a diamond (钻石) that my grandmother gave me for my 23rd birthday. At the end of the path, when I looked down at it again and found the diamond was 1. I started back along the path hurriedly 2the tiny stone. In my heart, I knew it seemed impossible for me to find it. The path was very long and  3 with leaves. As I searched the ground, crying and upset, I met an old lady. "What's the matter, love ?" She asked kindly. I 4 about the missing diamond and showed her my ring. She said, "That's going to be hard to find. Tell me what, love, I walk along this path every day, I'll keep my eyes 5 for it."     A few days later, my husband and I met the old lady on the path. "Guess what?" She said, "I found your diamond!" To our7, she'd found the tiny stone and was willing to hand it back to me. She could have easily kept the diamond, or sold it, for it's worth several thousand dollars, but she didn't.

    Every time I look at my ring and 10myself that there're kind and beautiful hearts in the world. I'll spend the rest of my life trying to do something like that.

A man walked in the desert for two days.1 met a sandstorm during the trip.And then，he lost the sense of direction.While he was unable to hold on，he suddenly found a small old house.There was only some wood inside.He walked to the corner hopelessly，but suddenly2 a water pump（泵）.

He went to draw water（抽水），but he couldn't pump water no matter how hard he tried.He sat on the ground3 .Just at that time，he saw a small bottle with a cork（瓶塞）.There was a yellow4 posted on the bottle，which read，" You must put the water into the pump before you can draw water!Don't5 before you leave，refill（重新注满） it with water!" He pulled the cork and found the bottle was really filled with water!He could hardly believe his luck.

At this moment，he thought，"6 I only think about myself，as long as I drink the water in the bottle，I can be7 to go out of this desert!If I do as the note told，I might be thirsty to death.Will I take the risk or not？"

Finally，he made a8 to do what the note told him and began to draw water with his shaking hands.Sure enough，the water really9 !

After he drank enough water，he filled the bottle with water.He enveloped（封住） it10 the cork and added his words after the note，"Believe me it's really useful.You should learn to pay before you get it!"

Judie's class was studying Chinese culture. One day, her teacher went into the classroom 1 some kites. He told them that kites 2 in China more than 2, 000 years ago. At the end of the class, he said, "The Chinese make kites that mean something important to them. I expect each of you 3 a kite that means something important to you. You will have a 4 understanding of kites than before. "

"Judie, can you tell me 10 butterflies?" asked her dad. 

Judie replied, "To me, butterflies mean beauty and freedom!"
