What Is a Good Friend Like? | |
Cindy | I think a good friend should be honest(诚实的). That's more important than any other thing. And it is where a real friendship starts. If a friend isn't honest, he may lose his friends' trust. |
Jenny | I think a good friend has to be generous(慷慨的). Being generous doesn't mean he has to give his friends his lunch money or his clothes. It means he should share his ideas and feelings with his friends. In fact, his friends can know him better in this way. |
Mary | In my eyes, a good friend should understand his friends. When there's something wrong between him and his friends, he can put himself in his friends' place and think more for his friends. |
The summer holiday is over. It's true that time always flies fast. During the holiday, the weather was hot and I could not do much work, but I lived happily.
As the afternoon was hot, I did my work in the morning. I used to get up at 6:30 and take a walk in the garden for half an hour. After breakfast, I began reading English and Chinese and worked on some maths problems. These took me three hours or more. I worked quite hard and made good progress(进步).
I spent the afternoon outside. I went to swim and it was fun. I would not go home until it was about five or six o' clock. Sometimes a friend of mine would come to see me and we would spend some hours listening to music.
In this way I spent my holiday happily. And I not only made up some of my lessons, but also became a good swimmer. Now I am in good health and high spirits.
The class in America is almost the same as that in China. But something is different.
In America, if the teacher asks you a question but you don't understand, you should put up your hand and ask the teacher to repeat it. If you don't know the answer, it is all right to tell the teacher that you don't know. Then he or she knows what you need to learn.
You mustn't be absent on a test day. If you' re seriously ill, call and let the teacher know you will not be there for the test. If your teacher allows make-up test, you should take the test in one or two days after you go back to school.
Be on time! It is impossible to be late. If you come in late, be sure to do it quietly. Take your books out of your bag after you enter the room. Then go to your seat and sit down quietly. In the US, you needn't knock before you come into the classroom.
If you have to leave during the class, do it quietly, too. There is no need to ask for the teacher's agreement(同意).
I hired a man to help me repair(修理) an old farmhouse. His first day on the job make him mad—a flat tire(轮胎) made him lose an hour of work, he cut his finger with a knife and his old truck refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in silence(沉默地).
On arriving, he invited me to meet his family. As we walked towards the front door, he stopped at a small tree and touched the tips of the branches with both hands. When opening the door, his face was full of smiles and he hugged his two children and gave his wife a kiss.
Afterwards, he walked with me to the car. We passed the tree. I was so curious that I asked him about what I had seen earlier. " Oh, that's my trouble tree, " he replied. "I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing is for sure. Those troubles don't belong to my children and wife. So I hang them in the tree every night and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning, I pick them up again. "
" The funny thing is, " he smiled, " When I come out to pick them up in the morning, there aren't as many as those hung up the night before. "
