Man: Yeah, I like Professor Vargas, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} sometimes he goes too fast, and I feel like I'm missing something. There's a lot we have {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (remember).

Woman: True. There are a lot of details about all the different styles.

Man: Yeah, there are Art Nouveau, and Art Deco, and Art Moderne... I have a hard time {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (keep) it all straight.

Woman: I know what you mean.

Man: For example, it seems to me {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Art Deco and Art Moderne are the same things.

Woman: Well, it's somewhat confusing. They were both popular in {#blank#}5{#/blank#}1930s although Art Deco came a little before Moderne. I think Professor Vargas {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (say) Art Deco started at an exhibition in Paris in 1925. Let me check out my notes. Right, Art Deco was a popular international art design movement from 1923 until the 1940s, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (affect) the decorative arts such as architecture and {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (industry) design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts and film.

Man: So, they were about the same time. It's one thing that gets confusing. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} thing is, they seem so similar that it's hard to see why they're {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (consider) different styles.

    You see them everywhere: people walking with their attention {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（concentrate）on their smartphone screens on busy streets. But walking and texting can be dangerous and cities in the United States and Europe have stepped {#blank#}2{#/blank#} their efforts to deal with it.

    In Honolulu, using the phones while crossing the street is forbidden. It has passed a law that says “No pedestrian （行人） shall cross a street or highway while viewing a mobile electronic device. In other words, do not look at a screen when you cross the street{#blank#}3{#/blank#} you could be fined. Honolulu is the first major U.S. city{#blank#}4{#/blank#} （forbid）what is called “distracted walking”.

    People {#blank#}5{#/blank#} text while walking are nearly four times as likely to have at least one dangerous action. A lot of people do it {#blank#}6{#/blank#} they know it is dangerous. They tell themselves that it is important.

    Using phones while walking may lead to injuries and deaths, but it seems to be a global problem. Pedestrian deaths {#blank#}7{#/blank#}（increase）as the use of cell phones rises in the past 5 years, and it is expected that the tendency will continue.

    Other cities have come up with creative ways to help protect those using cellphones while walking. A small town near Amsterdam has set up special crosswalks with flashing lights on the ground. When the traffic lights turn red or green,{#blank#}8{#/blank#} do the lights on the ground, reminding pedestrians when it's safe to cross. In a town of Germany, similar lights were used after a teenager using her smart phone was hit and seriously{#blank#}9{#/blank#}（injure）.

    If you still want to text while walking you could avoid being fined in Honolulu {#blank#}10{#/blank#}using voice-controlled digital assistant（数字助手） like Siri or Google Assistant Or you could just wait until you are again, safely off the street.

    An old Spanish proverb goes, “Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week.” How many times have we put off our dreams until tomorrow? Too many. Our dreams should not, and cannot wait. It is universally{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(acknowledge) that everybody is going to die at one point. None of us know{#blank#}2{#/blank#}day, or the hour. You can dream about writing a great American play, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}it is never going to happen if you don't actually put pen to paper. In other words, dreams can't come true{#blank#}4{#/blank#} you take action. Tomorrow is not promised. Today is all we have. Therefore, don't go to your grave{#blank#}5{#/blank#}unfulfilled dreams. One of the biggest dream killers is fear. There are so many people who could have achieved{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(amaze) things if only they weren't afraid. Just think about all the things you wanted to do, but allowed fear to convince you that you weren't {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(capability) or good enough. In the movie After Earth, Will Smith's character{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(say), “Fear is not real. It is a product of thoughts you create.” Choose not to let fear stop you from {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(achieve) your dreams. All in all, make the{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(decide) to go after every dream, big or small, right now.

    On October 23^rd, 2018，President Xi Jinping announced the opening of the Hong Kong– Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) at an opening ceremony in Zhuhai, Guangdong province.

    The HZMB,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (locate) at the waters of the Lingdingyang of Pearl River Estuary, is a huge sea crossing, linking Hong Kong and Macao to the Chinese mainland city of Zhuhai. As the world's{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(long) sea-based project, the 55-kilometre bridge is the result of five years of research and another nine years of building. It has been described as one of the “seven{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(wonder) of the modern world” by the Guardian.

    The project{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(make) up of a 22.9-kilometer-long main bridge, a 6.7-kilometer-long tunnel and an artificial island off the bridge. It is designed with {#blank#}5{#/blank#}service life of 120 years. It can withstand a strong wind equal{#blank#}6{#/blank#} a maximum Beaufort scale 16. The bridge's engineers had to consider many environmental factors to protect the{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(surround) environment while building the bridge. Chinese white dolphins, an endangered species that lives in the area,{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) a particular concern.

    The HZMB will make{#blank#}9{#/blank#}much more convenient to travel between the three areas it connects. It will bring people in Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong within a “one-hour living circle”,{#blank#}10{#/blank#}is expected to attract more visitors to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It will be a transport link as well as a social, economic, cultural, and tourism connection among the three areas.

    Li Bai was a Chinese poet praised from his own day to the present as a romantic figure{#blank#}1{#/blank#}took traditional poetic forms to new heights. Thirty-four of his poems are included in Three Hundred Tang Poems.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (he) early poetry took place in the “golden age” of Tang dynasty. This all changed suddenly when all of northern China{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(destroy) by war. Fortunately, many of his poems{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(survive) ever since, enjoying lasting popularity in China and elsewhere.
