A young man and an old man were waiting for a bus. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} sat next to each other. “What's that in your bag?” asked the young man, pointing to a big bag beside the old man. “Gold. There was nothing but gold,” answered the old man. The young man could not believe his own ears and was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} great surprise. Then he began to think about {#blank#}3{#/blank#} to get the money. The old man was very tired and it seemed that he could hardly keep his eyes open. After a while the old man {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (lie) down on the chair and fell asleep.

    The young man took {#blank#}5{#/blank#} big bag gently and quietly. But when he was just about to run away, he found a corner of his fur coat was under the old man's body. Several times he tried to pull it out,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} in vain. At last he took off his coat,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (think) that the gold in the bag must cost far more than his fur coat.

    Worried but {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (delight), the young man ran out of the station as quickly as his legs could carry him, until he reached a place {#blank#}9{#/blank#} he thought the old man couldn't find him. He stopped and quickly opened the bag but he just found a great many of small stones in it. Then he ran back to the station {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (hurry) only to find that the old man was gone.

    Daisy had always longed to help endangered species of wildlife. A monkey was seen rubbing a millipede insect over {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(it) body. Out of {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(curious), Daisy asked the monkey what the millipede contained. Knowing it contained a powerful drug, Daisy could hardly wait {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(share) the good news with WWF.

    No one knows exactly {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the earth began. However, according to a widely accepted theory, the universe began {#blank#}2{#/blank#} a "Big Bang". Then the dust {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(settle) into a solid globe. As the earth cooled down, water began to appear on its surface. Many {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(science) believe that it was the presence of water that allowed the earth to dissolve {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(harm) gases and acids into oceans and seas, which made it possible for life to develop.

    Millions of years later, the first small plants appeared on the surface of the water.     Finally, humans appeared and spread all over the earth. But they are putting too much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which prevents heat from {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(escape) from the earth into space. As a result of this, people believe the earth may become too hot to live on. So {#blank#}10{#/blank#} life will continue on the earth will depend on how this problem can be solved.

    Recently, I feel upset for I have a strange neighbor. She lives in a house with {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (dust) curtains {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (hang) before dirty windows. I don't know if it is because she has no friend {#blank#}3{#/blank#} she has developed the habit of setting down a series of facts she has gone through in her diary.
