Recently I learned from the newspaper that normal universities（师范大学） {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  (belong) to the Education Department would recruit（招收）some students free. As {#blank#}2{#/blank#} return, the students must serve as a primary school teacher for 10 years in his or her hometown. I feel that is good news for me and I'll contact the universities to get {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (admit). First of all, as a farmer's child, my family's living condition is not so good {#blank#}4{#/blank#} I can not afford the high tuition of regular universities. I'm so happy to get the chance {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (become) a college student {#blank#}6{#/blank#} then continue my study. Secondly, serving as a teacher is my dream since I was a child. I {#blank#}7{#/blank#} （bring) up in a mountain village. Many of my little friends got poor education and they had to get to work as a teenager. If I become a teacher, I will devote {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (I) to giving them better education. Lastly, our country is {#blank#}9{#/blank#} great need of teachers,{#blank#}10{#/blank#}  (especial) in rural areas. After I graduate, I'll return to my hometown and serve as a good teacher.

    Americans are proud of their variety and individuality, yet they love and respect few things more than a uniform, whether it is the uniform of {#blank#}1{#/blank#} elevator operator or the uniform of a five-star general. Why are uniforms so popular there?

    Among the arguments for uniforms is that most uniforms look more {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (profession) than civilian (百姓的) clothes.     No one is sure how many Americans belong to reading groups called book clubs. Yet{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (publisher) and bookstores report that more and more people throughout the United States are joining{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (they).

    Most of the clubs work the same way. Members read the same book at the same time. Then they meet to talk about the book. Members may be friends or people{#blank#}3{#/blank#} live near each other. Some Americans belong to reading groups on{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Internet. These groups include people around the world who communicate about books they read. They send electronic mails instead of gathering{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (discuss) books.

    Most reading groups study books by{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (variety) writers. However, some groups read the work of a single writer,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (usual) one that has been famous for a while. Other groups may{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (name) for an important person in the work of the writer,{#blank#}9{#/blank#} a Sherlock Holmes Club. Members of these book clubs often are experts about their{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (choose) reading materials. One member of a Holmes reading group, for example, can identify almost every person in every Sherlock Holmes story.

    Mandarin(普通话) is the most {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (use) non-European language for children to learn, the UK parents believe. It will boost(促进) their children's career prospects (前景),according to 55% of parents, while 56% felt it would open their children's minds {#blank#}2{#/blank#} an “exciting and dynamic（动态的）” culture. Arabic and Japanese, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} were both picked by 14% of parents, were the other key non-European languages. The figures were gained after 1,138 UK adults with children aged under 18 {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (be) questioned in a survey {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (conduct) by the Mandarin Excellence Programme (MEP).

    French, Spanish and German were the top choices overall for young people in the UK     {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (learn) after being picked by 57%, 54% and 40% of parents respectively.

    Mark Herbet, of the British Council, said: “With the global economy {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (become) more interconnected and the drive to boost exports, language skills are increasingly important for work and life. Mandarin is one of the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (language) that matter most to the UK's future prosperity (繁荣).If the UK is to remain competitive on the world stage, we need far more of our young people leaving school with a good grasp of Mandarin in order to {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (success) work abroad or for businesses here in the UK. Learning Mandarin is also a fascinating process that brings {#blank#}10{#/blank#} valuable understanding of Chinese culture.”

    The MEP aims to help at least 5,000 young people in England to speak fluent Mandarin by 2020.

    Once upon a time, there was a poor fisherman {#blank#}1{#/blank#} always dreamed of becoming rich. He wished to become {#blank#}2{#/blank#} millionaire, and so did his wife. He heard {#blank#}3{#/blank#} some old men before, that several ships {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (load) with diamonds and gold had sunk in the nearby seashore. Because of this, for a long time he kept searching that whole area for this treasure.

    One day, while he was sitting on the boat daydreaming, he suddenly felt that the fishing rod {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (weigh) down by a heavy object. He {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (excite) pulled hard at it, and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} he saw made him shout, "Wow! A big, shiny gold chain!" He pulled hard at the gold chain to get it into the boat, but {#blank#}8{#/blank#} seemed to be no end to it. His boat started to get overload and the sea water filled his boat. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}, he had begun dreaming of a big house, a big piece of land and {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (buy) horses and cows... He kept pulling at the chain while the boat kept sinking. The boat was finally submerged and he struggled to stay afloat. Unfortunately, his feet were caught in the gold chain and he drowned.
