Huang Shunjie might have the best job in the world. The 24-year-old is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} panda photographer and zookeeper. Huang spends each day {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (look) after 18 baby pandas at the Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in China. He prepares their meals, checks on their health and{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (carry) them between their sleeping pens and their public enclosure (围场).

"I can get very close to the baby pandas, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} makes many people jealous (忌妒的)," Huang says.

Any job{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (certain) has downsides. In Huang's case, it's the regular scratches (抓伤) he gets from the 45 - to 55-pound bears. But it's a small price to pay to spend each day with the cute pandas.

"I'm a full-time daddy for these baby pandas," says Huang. "If I take some{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (day) off to go home, I feel empty inside."

For many years, giant pandas were one of the world's most endangered creatures as construction destroyed their {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (nature) habitat in bamboo forests.

But populations have recovered in recent years due {#blank#}8{#/blank#} programs to help pandas breed (繁殖). Today, there {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (be) 1,864 pandas in the wild, up from only 1, 114 in the 1970s, according to China's National Forestry and Grassland Administration. Two-thirds of {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (they) live across 67 nature reserves.

Despite extreme cold, cruel ice and being brushed off as mad, Slovenian Davo kamicar became the first person to ski non-stop down Mount Everest. After a dramatic fall over almost sheer cliffs of snow, stones and ice, 38-year-old Kamicar returned to his base camp after five hours of skiing. "I feel only absolute happiness and absolute tiredness," he said. 

Due to the severe weather conditions, Kamicar flung himself back down the mountain as soon as he reached the top rather than have a rest as planned At one point, he had to speed overstretches of ice that collapsed and broke underneath him and could have sent him falling into the deep crevasses(裂缝) that dot the mountain.

The descent (下落) had been widely regarded as extremely dangerous. The Darwin Awards website, known for documenting foolhardy deaths, urged people to log on to their website and "keep your eyes peeled for a live Darwin Award". However, the only body to make the news was the corpse (尸体)of an unknown mountaineer which Kamicar zipped past as he descended one of an estimated 120 corpses, thought to litter the slopes." This mountain is always full of surprises. Seeing a dead man out there was still a shocking experience," he said. 

Thanks to strategically placed cameras on the mountain and one attached to his safety helmet hundreds of thousands of people witnessed the process online, which was one of the record highs ever of more than 650,000 hits. The website was once jammed as people tried to access the site.

A previous failed attempt had already cost Kamicar two fingers when he got frostbite as a fierce storm hit the peak. Coming from a skiing family and had his first Himalayan skiing expedition in 1989, he has been ever since tireless in raising funds and sponsorship for more expeditions, with Everest as the permanent goal.

In February of 2005, Phil Belfiore was teaching one of Robert Frost's poems Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. He liked it so much that he 1 it on his home answering machine, which would lead to one of the most 2 friendships of his life. 

When Phil returned from his vacation, he listened to his voice

3 . One gentleman caller 4 for dialing the wrong number. But, he added, he'd really enjoyed the poem. Phil thought nothing more of it—until the phone rang a few days later.

That was 11 years ago. They've spoken on the phone a few times a month ever since. It is John who is still the starter of most calls. However, Phil will ring if a long while has passed. Not 9 , John has been in poor health. His special voice is just the 10 of some heart trouble. They seem to always 11 when there's been a big sports event. The men like to discuss football most. John will also 12 Phil on his life. Slowly, their conversations have grown much more 13 . They planned to meet twice, but circumstances went against them. Their friendship is based on the 14 act of picking up the phone. "My best friend is someone I've not yet met 15 ," says John.

Ten years ago I adopted my dog Rudy from a shelter just days before they were going to euthanize (使安乐死) him. We've had a special1 ever since.

    I've found his  2 really meaningful. Every night I get in my bed and he gets in his doggy bed right next to mine. But a year ago suddenly Rudy 3 . Every night when I got in bed he'd jump up on my  4 and start licking (舔) my face. I'd get  5 and make him get off but the next night he'd do it again.

    I was considering taking him to obedience (驯服) school when I suddenly 6 that he was licking the same spot on my jaw over and over again. I  7  my jaw and it seemed okay but it was so  8 for my dog that I decided to just trust him. I made an appointment with the  9 and felt silly telling her why I came in but she agreed to do some  10 . It turns out I had a tumor (肿瘤) in my jaw. It couldn't be felt from the  11 but somehow Rudy knew it was there. I'm doing much 12 now but the doctors said if I'd  13 until the tumor was big enough to be felt, it's likely I would have  14 . I saved my dog's life and now he's  15 mine!

Taking a gap year between high school and college can be a great way to explore your interests, gain new experiences, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} develop skills that will benefit you in the future. For me, my gap year was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} unforgettable adventure that allowed me {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(step) outside my comfort zone and see the world in new ways.

During my gap year, I traveled to several {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(country) including Thailand, Japan, and Peru. I {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (volunteer) at a wildlife preserve in Thailand, where I worked with elephants, monkeys, and other animals. In Japan, I taught English to elementary school children, and in Peru, I worked on a farming project with a local community.

These experiences were greatly rewarding and taught me valuable lessons about the world and myself. I learned how to communicate {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(effective) with people from different cultures, how to adapt {#blank#}7{#/blank#} new environments and situations, and how to be more self-sufficient and resourceful.

In addition to my travels, I also spent time {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(explore) my passions and hobbies. I took art classes, learned how to cook new dishes, and read extensively about topics {#blank#}9{#/blank#} interested me. These activities helped me to develop my creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking skills. So far these skills {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(be) invaluable in shaping my ideas and I'm looking forward to continuing to improve them throughout my life.

The year was 1937. I was seven years old. And I was with my father and mother, at a Chinese restaurant in Boro Park, Brooklyn. That was the first Chinese restaurant I ever ate at. I was always given food from the adults' orders.

I'm not sure when it was, but the time did come when I had my first order — Won-Ton soup, egg rolls and spare ribs. That made me excited. My father seemed to know the Chinese waiter, a young guy; his name was Jimmy. I remember being surprised that a Chinese man could have an American name.

Some months later, my father took me to a restaurant in Manhattan's Chinatown called The Rathskeller on Mott Street. This was my first time in Chinatown and I was very impressed by how different it was from Boro Park. We went there a few times. I just couldn't have enough of the food there.

In 1951, I was sent to work in the Hospital Treasurer's Office at Letterman Army Hospital. A colleague had an uncle who was a waiter at The Far East Cafe on Grant Avenue in the heart of San Francisco's Chinatown. Once a week, a group from the office would go there for lunch and my colleague's uncle would take good care of us. My favorite dish was Tomato Beef Chow Mein.

It wasn't until about 23 years later, in 1974, that I had my next serious relationship with the cuisine (菜肴) of China. I was lucky to take some cooking lessons provided by a famous Chinese restaurant's chef. Then my life entered a new phase (阶段). I didn't know it then, but some time later, it became clear to me that Chinese food would follow me through the days of my life.
