Everyone knows water is important to all living things. But do you know these interesting 1 about water?

    Without water, the Earth would look 2 the moon. People can live several days without food, but only3days without water. Scientists say 70% of the human body is made up of water. Water 4 up 83% of our blood, 70% of our brain, and 90% of our lungs (肺). About 95% of a tomato is water, and about 80% of an apple is water. So 5 can we do to help with water problems?

   Keep a shower to 10 minutes or 6 time. It helps save much water. Use a broom to sweep the floor, the stair, the garage (车库), or the sidewalk instead of water.

     7 throw your used water away. Instead, you can use some to water plants or run the toilets. Use a bucket (桶) of water to 8 your bike or the  family car instead of water pipes.

     Use water only 9 you need it. Don't leave water running. Be sure to turn the tap 10 when you are not using it.

    Look at the koala! It is 1 lovely that I want to touch it. How much do you know about koalas, especially a baby koala? Let's look at it.

    A newborn koala is smaller than a peanut. For the first few months the baby 2 inside its mother's pouch(育儿袋), and drinks its mother's milk.

    By the age of 5 3, its eyes are open and it can look out 4 the pouch. It still stays there.

     About six months after the baby is born, it leaves its mother's pouch for the 5 time for a short time, but it hangs onto its mother's back.

    It is now about 500g. It comes in and out of the pouch. It keeps very close to its 6and returns to the pouch within a few minutes. Gradually the baby will stay out longer.

    By 12 months old, the baby wants to eat only eucalyptus(桉树) 7, no more its mother's milk. The mother koala begins teaching her baby which eucalyptus leaves are 8 to eat.

    A one-year-old koala can 9 on its own, 10 it doesn't often do that. Most young koalas stay with their mothers until they are two or three years old.

    Many years ago, people lived a hard life. They couldn't use modern machines, because there was 1 one at that time. Today people have a better life but there are new problems. One of biggest problems is it has 2 our rivers and lakes dirty. It kills our fish and affects our 3 water. We call it water pollution. Noise pollution makes us talk more 4 and become angry 5. Air pollution is the most serious kind of pollution. It affects all living things in the world. Machines and factories 6 our air every day. Sometimes the pollution is so 7 that it is like a blanket (毯子）covering a city. Many countries are making new laws to reduce pollution. We must clean 8  water before we 9 them into some place. We need to do many other things to protect our environment. We must put rubbish into dustbins 10 throwing them about. We can go to work by bus, on foot, or with friends in a car. If we do like that every day, our environment will be better.

    We are lucky to live in a rich country where we have many things. However, most of us usually 1some things.

    Electricity(电) is one thing that we waste 2. Lights, TVs,3 and other things are often kept on even when no one is using them. We should turn them off when we do not need them. It 4less than a second to do it. Anyhow, not wasting electricity is saving money, because we do not have to 5the electricity we do not use.

    The second thing that we often waste is water. Fresh water is precious(宝贵的)，6 it shouldn't be wasted. It is only a simple matter of turning off a tap. I am sure7can do this easily if he wants to.

    8big waste is food. My mother 9cook so much food that much of it was thrown away. I told her we had wasted so much 10. She thought I was right and now 11cooks what we can eat.

    It is not12to be wasteful. I find there is a simple 13of not wasting things. That is to use only what we14. Do not touch what we do not need.15 this way we can stop being wasteful.
