Bored with your life? Dreaming of something different? When I feel like that 1 look up and wonder what life would be like 400km above my head .That's where the International Space Station travels around the Earth, with six astronauts living and working on board for months at a time.

How do they sleep? They spend the night floating in a sleeping bag inside a small room on the ceiling.American astronaut Sunita Williams explains. It's like a little phone booth but it's pretty comfortable and it doesn't matter if I turn over and sleep upside down.I don't feel I'm upside down.

Brushing your teeth in a place where you can't have a tap or a sink will be a challenge. Can you imagine the mess that running water would make in zero gravity? Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield uses a straw to put water from a bag onto an ordinary toothbrush and adds a little toothpaste—which he has to eat when he's done.

Daily exercise is necessary. The lack of gravity makes bones more fragile(易碎的)and muscles lose strength—so astronauts are encouraged to work out for at least two hours a day.

The role of astronauts in the International Space Station is to act as lab technicians(技工)for scientists on Earth. So they spend their time protecting their environment and performing and monitoring experiments in a limited space about the size of a Boeing 747.Almost every task is carefully planned by control—although most astronauts spend their first days losing things until they get used to sticking everything they use to the walls.

One of their most valued things is the view from the office controlled by that big blue ball down there, sitting in the darkness of space.Wow!Completely breathtaking!

Jimmy is an automotive mechanic, but helost his job a few months ago. He has good heart, but always feared applyingfor a new job.

One day, he gathered up all his strengthand decided to attend a job interview. His appointment was at 10 am and it wasalready 8:30. While waiting for a bus to the office where he was supposed to beinterviewed, he saw an elderly man wildly kicking the tyre(轮胎) of hiscar. Obviously there was something wrong with the car. Jimmy immediately wentup to lend him a hand. When Jimmy finished working on the car, the old manasked him how much he should pay for the service. Jimmy said there was no needto pay him; he just helped someone in need, and he had to rush for aninterview. Then the old man said, “Well, I could take you to the office foryour interview. It's the least I could do. Please. I insist.” Jimmy agreed.

Upon arrival, Jimmy found a long line ofapplications waiting to be interviewed. Jimmy still had some grease on himafter the car repair, but he did not have much time to wash it off or have achange of shirt. One by one, the applicants left the interviewer's office withdisappointed look on their faces. Finally his name was called. The interviewerwas sitting on a large chair facing the office window. Rocking the chair backand forth, he asked, “Do you really need to be interviewed?” Jimmy's heartsank. “With the way I look now, how could I possibly pass this interview?” hethought to himself.

Then the interviewer turned the chairand to Jimmy's surprise, it was the old man he helped earlier in the morning. It turned out he was the General Manager of the company.

“Sorry I had to keep you waiting, but Iwas pretty sure I made the right decision to have you as part of our workforcebefore you even stepped into the office. I just know you'd be a trustworthyworker. Congratulations!” Jimmy sat down and they shared a cup of well-deservedcoffee as he landed himself a new job.

In high school, all Canadian students take part in a very exciting event. It is "Take Your Children to Work Day". Students will have a chance to work with their parents. My day took place in my mom's work, the York Region Police Department.

When I arrived, a coach was teaching the officers basic combat(格斗)skills. Everyone tried their best to practice. I could see them sweating and panting (喘气).

The most exciting part of my visit was a stop at the 911 Communication Center. 911 is the same as 110,119 and 120 in China. Every 911 call in the city is answered here. When I entered the center, I stood beside a call dispatcher (分派人员)arid watched him dealing-with the calls.

Suddenly, the phone rang, he picked it up and a woman cried for help. There was a robbery in her house. The call dispatcher told her, "Please calm down and move to the safe place quietly. Don't fight with them. Just let them take what they want. Please make sure you are not hurt. We are sending officers there."

He followed the call and found the address. The call dispatcher chose the five closest police cars from the satellite map and clicked(敲键盘) to send the policemen.  I saw the police cars from the satellite map were quickly moving to the woman's house. Five minutes later, they arrived .I asked the call dispatcher why he sent five cars. He said, "There are different levels of emergencies. Robbery is a high priority (优先),so we have to send five cars." The day was interesting. I leaned how the different departments worked together. The officers were very friendly and admirable.

I was a bit of a bookworm as a child. For car journey, day trip or family holiday, many books were always packed to keep me busy.Since then,I've continued reading all kinds of books but I'll always love my childhood favorites.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-timer—Mark Haddon

This children's mystery novel is interesting,exciting,thought-provoking(发人深省的),sad and happy all at the same time. The main character is a 15-year-old boy who has autism(自闭症). The book gives you a window into his world, his thoughts, his hopes and his dreams. It's easy to read and both kids and adults love it.A must-read in my opinion.

    Secret Seven—Enid Blyton

If you love adventures, this one is for you.The Secret Seven are a group of child detectives who make it their duty to solve crimes. They have many adventures along the way. It's a fun book that you won't want to stop reading. And in fact, there is more than.one book. There's a series of books about the Secret Seven's adventures so if you like the first one, you're in luck.

    Matilda—Roald Dahl

It's now a film and show at the theatre, but we can't forget the original book.Matilda is about a loveable little girl who is very clever and, like me,loves to read. She goes to school and meets the very scary Miss Trunchbull who tortures(折磨)children, but thankfully makes friends with a kind teacher. The book will have you crying one, moment and laughing the next.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe—C.S.Lewis

As a kid I read the book, watched the film and listened to the tape.I really couldn't get enough of the book. It's an exciting story set in a magical land called Narnia. When you're reading it, you'll feel like you're really there. You'll get caught up in the adventures of the four children and the characters they meet.I can't rate it highly enough.
