河北省衡水市景县第二中学2020年九年级英语4月中考模拟试卷

阅读理解

Watching American TV and movies is a surprisingly free way to learn English. You learn modern culture, commonly used slang(俚语), improve listening, and most of all, it's super fun.

The language used in popular TV shows and movies actually represents real life. Sometimes native(母语的)speakers even use new phrases they learn from movies. The slang today is much different from the slang used by even my parents. Real spoken English changes quite quickly and it's important to know what's cool now and what sounds old and stupid.

Most people studying English by watching TV and movies make one or two MISTAKES however.

⒈Watching with subtitles(译文对白字幕).

This is a huge mistake because you learn a lot less than you think. Your eyes naturally go to the subtitles and often the translations aren't great. It's impossible to translate slang and jokes anyway. Another thing is that your brain is busy reading your own language. This really slows down the learning.

⒉Watching stuff(素材资料).

Turning the subtitles off isn't enough if you don't understand 100% of the movie or TV show. It's not enough to get the "general idea". I've watched so many movies and TV shows with people who aren't from English-speaking countries, and they always miss the real funny parts, because movies and TV shows are designed for English-speaking people. They don't need anything explained to them but you do. If you are learning English you need to have these slang expressions and jokes explained to you. Then you will totally "get" everything and your English level will improve like crazy.

No matter what your level is, I'm sure you'll learn something from this. Check it out.

①Ahh...ahhhh...aaahhhhchooo! That sneeze is uncovered, and so the germs(细菌) fly through the air. It is pretty awful to think about, but have you ever wondered about the germs in your body? They are very small organisms(生物体) that live inside us. An organism is a living thing. Germs area live, and they can cause us to get sick. It is impossible to keep germs out of our bodies. They are so tiny that we do not even know they are coming inside our bodies. The only way we know that germs have made us sick is when we begin to feel symptoms. We might get a fever or a sore throat. We might have a runny nose or a headache.

②Germs are usually spread through the air They come out in a sneeze, a cough, or a breath. They can also be spread by saliva(唾液), sweat(汗), or blood. Sometimes, they come from touching something. For example, a person can touch his or her nose and then touch a doorknob(门把手). If someone else touches that doorknob right away, he or she can pick up those germs.

③How can you protect yourself from germs? The most important way to do this is to wash your hands. Soap and water area germ's enemies. They wash the germs away. This is why it is so important to wash your hands throughout the day. But a quick splash(飞溅) will not work. Hands should be washed for about twenty seconds.

④Staying healthy also keeps germs away. This means getting enough rest and not being too tired. It also means having good foods and exercising. These are germ-fighting secrets!
