Computers are good tools. The Internet is also good.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}They can't stop. Doctors say this is a new sickness. They call this sickness Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD).

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}They spend hours chatting to their friends or playing online games. Many people with IAD spend more time on the Internet than with family or friends.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Do you have IAD? Think about these questions: How many hours a day are you online? Is it a lot or a little? When you are not online, are you thinking about playing a computer game or checking your messages?{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Do you get angry when you can't play a game?

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}Dr. Ivan Goldberg and Dr. Kimberly S.Young have some ideas. First, ask yourself “Why am I online a lot?” Then try to take a break. For example, use the computer or play games twice a week, not every day. In this way, you can have a good social life with other friends.

    Do you know how the kids in different countries spend their holidays in spring?

    In China, when spring comes, students have difficulty sitting quietly. They want to be outside. Teachers know this. In spring, schools usually organize a spring outing for kids. It might be a trip to a mountain. But typically, teachers take kids to a martyrs' park (烈士陵园).They can show their respect(敬意)for those who lost their lives in war. And also they can enjoy spring.

    In Japan, things are a little different. The school year begins in April. In some parts of the country, the first day of school is also the start of the cherry blossom (樱花)season.这是一年中孩子们旅行的最佳时间。People go to parks early in the morning with their family and friends.

    UK children have many great choices when it comes to school trips. They can visit the seaside, or a theme park. They can look around a castle or a stately home (庄园). One special place to go is a wetland and bird center. The kids spend time in a beautiful place and also learn about the natural world. The people at the center are scientists. This means they're able to teach kids about the knowledge of nature. They also find out how some animals today are in danger.

    Researchers from two universities in Britain recently carried out a very interesting project. They aimed to find out what modern family needs from their home. The lucky family chosen to take part in the project was the Joneses parents Paul and Eve and their two sons, Jimmy(16) and Harry(13). They have just spent two months living in a specially designed hi- tech future house, where cameras recorded everything they did.

    TV while you bathe

    So what's in this modern house? It boasts(拥有) five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The sitting area has a huge TV and a digital picture frame- you can decide which photos you want to appear and change the picture as often as you like. The baths all have waterproof TV screens and DVD players. There is a remote control(遥控器) in every room which controls everything in the house from the lights to the cooker. The floors are all made of glass and all have under floor heating. The windows clean themselves and there is even a robot called "Iron Man" to do the ironing. Dirty washing goes into a lift which takes the clothes automatically to the washing machine. The "Iron Man" then does all the ironing.

    So how did it go?

    The Jones family were over the moon to be chosen to spend some time in the house. Here's what they said:

Paul: It was great. The house was so comfortable. One day our friends called round with their dog. The dog felt so warm and comfortable; he even slept on the floor! Oh, but there was one problem. One night we were all in bed and all the lights switched themselves on for no reason. It was a bit frightening!

Jimmy: I loved it, but I wish there had been a robot to help me with my homework.

Harry: Staying in was as much fun as going out!

Eve: I loved the TV in the bath but I never watched it before going to work in the morning. If I did, I don't think I'd ever get out!

    The Jones family are now back in their very ordinary home, but planning some hi-tech additions as soon as they can afford them!

The experts hope that results from their project will help developers meet the needs of a 21st-century family. One of the experts wrote a few sentences about his findings on this project:

    Road accidents keep happening in every city, on every road and at any time. Traffic rules are made to keep order on the road. They can also help to keep the pedestrians(行人)safe.

    The pedestrian has as many rules to follow as the driver of a car. You should walk on the sidewalk or at the edge of the road. Always look carefully before you walk across the street. If you ride a bike, don't ride in the middle of the road or look around to talk. If you drive, you should slow down at the traffic lights. You must always wear a seat belt(安全带). Without the belts, both the driver and the passengers may be badly hurt in a sudden accident.

    Traffic rules are also called Road Safety rules. The maxim(格言)for all road users is "Thinking about others."

    Because of the high price of housing, many of us are living in smaller spaces than we'd like. However, living in small spaces is not that bad. It has some advantages.

    {#blank#}1{#/blank#} It can take thousands of dollars to make a large space look better. Small spaces, however, make decorating simpler and more affordable. Instead of many pieces of large, expensive furniture, you only need a few to make your style. You'll have plenty of money left for other things.

    They're easier to clean. This must be one of your favorite things about living in a small space. The bigger the space is, the longer it takes to tidy up. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}That's why small spaces are welcomed by those who like being surrounded by cleanliness and don't want to spend much time and energy in keeping them that way.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} It takes a lot to pay for heating, cooling and electricity, which can also cost much energy. When you compare the electricity bill of someone living in 500 square feet with that of someone living in 3, 000 square feet. the difference can be great, We use less energy and produce less waste when we live in small spaces. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    They're easier to show your own style. Have you ever walked into a large home that feels more like a museum than the small home of someone you know? It's usually not the most familiar or welcoming atmosphere. Actually, you want your home to show your personal style. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
