Ever feel like no one really understands you well? "Pepper" could be about to change all that. Pepper is the first robot to read human feelings. Using its emotion recognition functions(情 感识别功能), Pepper can react to people when they are near them--making jokes, dancing and even singing in Japanese.

The man-like robot looks like a small girl. It is four-feet tall with a tablet computer(平板电脑)set to its chest. It has human-like hands, a girl-like body and baby-like voice. It was shown to curious people in Tokyo stores on Friday by Softbank, a Japanese robotics company.

Pepper can examine facial expressions(面部表情), human voice and signs, then make an answer. Pepper is able to communicate about everything from the weather to more serious topics like the latest information in the stock(股票) markets. Yet the great difference is that Pepper can make eye contact when meeting people.

Language students often think they have memory problems. They worry because they can't remember words. In fact, the problem usually isn't with their memory. The problem is with how they study.

To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. There are two kinds of memory: short-term and long-term. When you see, hear, or read something, it goes first into short-term memory. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds. You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory. Your long-term memory is like a very big library with many, many books. And like a library, it's organized (有条理的). When you put away a book – or memory – you can't just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find it again.

How can you do this with vocabulary? The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can do this by writing new sentences that include it. Even better, you can invent a little story about the word, with people or places that you know. Another way is to make a picture in your mind with the word. For example, if the word is height, you can think of the tallest person you know and try to guess his or her height. All of these activities are good ways to think about words. They make the meaning of words stronger in your long-term memory. And they give a way to find a word when you need it.

Chinese companies lead in global 5G patent applications(专利应用) with Huawei taking the crown, according to a report by IPlytics, an authorized patent data company. Three companies from China were included in the top 10 list of 5G Standards﹣Essential Patents(SEPs)family owner. Huawei ranked first. ZET Corp, and China Academy of Telecommunications Technology (CATT)grabbed fifth and ninth places, respectively.

Chinese companies topped the list for most 5G SEPs applications in communication systems by the end of April 2019, accounting for 34 percent of the world's total. Chinese tech giant Huawei has taken a leading role by owning 15 percent of SEPs, according to the report Who Is Leading the 5G Patent Race?

5G SEP are patents that any company will have to use when carrying out 5G technology and no one can avoid them.

Different from 3G and 4G technologies, 5G technology will influence various industries and encourage the appearance of many new products, services and industries.

The automotive sector will most likely be one of the first industries to depend on 5G, which will connect vehicles to other vehicles, roadsides, traffic lights, buildings and the Internet, according to the report.

"It is 5G that is going to be a huge jump forward for communication systems because only with 5G's higher bandwidth can a number of applications be more advanced (尖端的) and used by most consumers," said Nicole Peng, senior director of the market research company Canalys.

As 5G technology has combined various industries and technologies, the number of 5G SEPs rose to more than 60,000 globally by the end of April 2019, the report said.
