河北省唐山市2020年初中毕业生升学文化课考试英语第一次模拟测试卷(含听力音频)

阅读理解

You have tried too hard but you don't succeed; you've made all your efforts but you don't get the results you want. What should you do? Give up and turn over a new page. Drop it like it's hot, and run in the opposite direction as fast as you can.

Do you feel surprised? What is wrong with giving up? Oh yes, we all have been trained and asked to work hard to achieve our dreams, and that is a good thing. The problem comes out when all these inspirational quotes (励志名言) start confusing us.

These messages tell people not to give up, but they don't tell you that it should only apply to (适用于) your true dreams. They tell people to "try and try again" until they succeed, but that amount of effort should only be put toward what people really want in life and they should never give up no matter what life goals they have. The rest is all just there to confuse you, distract (使分心) you, give you a headache and sadness, so don't let it happen.

If you are really not good at something, give it up and try to do something you like. Once you do something you like, you won't feel bored and also won't give it up. You know clearly what you want even the road to success is hard. So you need to know what you're good at. To find your talent, you need to observe (观察) the things around you and write down the things you're interested in on your notebook. Then you can search them on the Internet, and know more about them. Asking your parents or friends for help is also a good idea because they can see something you can't. They can help you know yourself clearly.

Try to discover your talent, your ability and your skills. Find out what you are good at, what makes you happy and then work on it. If you do, no one would have to tell you or inspire you not to give up because when you love something, you keep trying until you get it right and the enthusiasm flows from within. Don't worry about what people will say or think. It's your life, so you have to love it and be your own boss.

A、are successful B、have no life goals C、have true dreams D、never give up
(2)、Once you find something you like, you won't ___________.

(3)、Why can you ask your parents for help to find your talent?

(4)、The underlined word "enthusiasm" in the passage means?
A、happiness B、curiosity C、ability D、warmth B.
(5)、What's the main idea of this passage?
A、We can't believe everything about inspirational quotes. B、It's not a bad thing for us to give up sometimes. C、Each of us has our own talent and skills. D、Anything is not so easy to do well.

Ye Jiaying, also known as Florence Yeh, was selected as one of the ten role models who won 2020 Touching China awards, a program by the CCTV.

Ye Jiaying was born into a family of scholars in July 1924 in Beijing. As an expert in the study of classical Chinese literature (文学), she started her lifelong career as a literature teacher in 1945 when she graduated from Fu Jen Catholic Unisersity, which later became part of Beijing Nonnal University.

In 1948, towards the end of the Chinese civil war, Ye and her husband moved to Taiwan. She gained popularity in Taiwan. With students speaking highly of her teaching, she was recruited by Taiwan University, Fu Jen University and Tamkang University to leach Chinese literature.

In 1966, the couple moved to the United States, where Ye first taught Chinese poetry at Michigan State University and then at Harvard University. Later, they moved to Canada and she worked as a tenured professor at the University of Columbia in Canada.

Beginning in 1979, Ye began spending summers teaching at various Chinese colleges, including famous universities such as Beijing University, Nankai University and Fudan University. She offered her services for free and paid her own travel expenses (开销). She believes that her teaching is the best gift she can offer to the country and later generations.

In 2013, she came back to China and worked in Nankai University. She has settled down in Tianjin since then. The university announced (宣布) that Ye had donated 18.57 million yuan ($2.8 million) to the college to set up the Jiaying Scholarship.

According to the speech which explained why she won the 2020 Touching China awards, Ye Jiaying devoted herself to teaching Chinese poems. She only did one thing in her life, bringing the beauty of ancient Chinese poetry to the world.

 阅读下列短文, 从下面每小题的A、B、C、D四个选项中选择最佳选项。

Last month, Shenzhen launched its first smart cat adoption(领养) center in Bao' an District in July. The center is a 6- square- meter room with a glass door. It makes it easier for people to adopt street cats. Through this center, two cats have already found new homes.

People who rescue street cats can apply to bring them to the center. If the staff think the cats are suitable to stay, there's a daily fee of 20 yu an to take care of the cats' health 24 hours a day. The fee can be paid by the rescuer or raised by the public.

People who might want to adopt a cat can enter the center by scanning(扫描)a QR code and paying 10 yuan. Visitors also need to put on shoe covers before going in. Inside, visitors can find basic information about the cats and how to adopt the cats. There's also a smart feeding machine where visitors can buy food for the cats. And it doesn't cost anything to adopt a cat.

Many people like the center for protecting street cats, especially in winter. However, some citizens worry that the cats might be harmed by cat haters. The staff explained that they will monitor the center all the time, and they can lock the doors through remote control if needed. Serious problems will be reported to the police at once. The center allows up to three visitors at a time, and children must be with a parent.

More smart cat adoption centers are planned for Nanshan and Bao' an districts. With the adoption centers, over 10 pet- themed parks, and 50 pet- friendly malls, Shenzhen is on its way to becoming a" pet- friendly city".

The greatest feeling in the world comes not from receiving gifts or getting good grades in the exams. It starts when you do something for others. You feel it when you drive for an hour to a hospital to meet the sick children. And you feel it when you sit down to comfort(安慰) your friend after her mother died.

My friend took me to a Youth Group meeting in his school. Then they invited me to join in feeding the homeless. Early that Saturday morning,a group of 15 teenagers began making sandwiches,washing fruit,and counting bags of cookies. For the first time in my life I realized that we,the teens of America,could make a difference. It made me join the Youth Group.

I work at a coffee shop. It's not the best job,but sometimes it's worth(值得) it. One day,the store was empty and I was bored. I cooking out of the window,I noticed an old man sitting outside. He never came in to buy anything because he didn't have any money. I took a cup of coffee,walked outside,and handed it to him. The smile on his face made my day , and as I walked back into the store. I paid for the coffee myself. Then I knew how the members of the Youth Group feel every time they help someone. Knowing that you can help others is great.
