Have you ever dreamed of traveling in space? To travel in space,we first have to work out where our food will come from.

Today's space travellers don't go to the Moon or Mars. They go to the International Space Station (ISS). There,the spacemen live for weeks to months.

If you visited the ISS years ago, nearly every kind of food you ate would have come from the Earth.

In 2014,scientists sent the ISS a space garden with some vegetable seeds(种子). With water and some light, the vegetables in the gardern grew. Those were the first foods being grown on the Iss. But the spacemen couldn't eat them and had to send them back to the Earth. The next year,after scientists made sure they were safe,the spacemen grew a second crop. This time the vegetables were ready for the spacemen to eat.

Gardening is different in space than it is on Earth. Without gravity,plants don't know which way is up. But they learn how to grow. They send their leaves in the direction of light and their roots into the soil.

The spacemen also have grown vegetables as well as flowers. That's important to know a plant can flower in space,because flowering is part of how some plants make fruit.

While the space garden is small for now, hopefully it could one day help provide people with food on long﹣time space trips.

 B. Choose the words of phrases and complete the passage

When my father was getting ready for work, our house was ruled by knocks and words. He used to come downstairs to breakfast. The morning paper lay beside his plate. He always read the' Deaths' first; and then he knocked once on the table. One of my sisters brought hi toast, already buttered for him.1 he said nothing, but once I heard him say, "I love you very much, Edith. I would love you more if you buttered my toast on2 . "He read the paper all through breakfast.

Two knocks on the table meant 'I am ready for my tea', If a single knock followed, that meant 'More toast, please. ' After breakfast he said, "Boots. " The paper was3 for him over the back of an armchair. Yesterday's paper was put on the chair for his feet, and his boots were brought to him, freshly cleaned. He read standing,4 putting on his boots and tying the laces.

With one boot finished, he said, "Bus. " At that point one of the girls went outside to the garden gate and waited there. Her job was to stop the bus when it came. It came early sometimes, and it had to wait for my father. "Overcoat, hat. " One of my sisters had already brushed his overcoat. Now she held it open for him and guided his arms into it. Then she pulled his jacket down under the coat.5 girl came with his hat, nicely brushed. "Handkerchief, pipe. " They were brought and put, with his tobacco, into his pockets. He looked out of the window and said either 'Walking stick' or'Umbrella'. It was handed to him.

Ready now, he was still reading the paper. He did not put it down until he heard the shout "Bus coming! " Then he kissed my mother and went out. The girls breathed freely. How lucky a man is to have a wife and five daughters at home!

This was our last trip before high school. I had been looking forward to it for weeks. But at the roller coaster, my stomach felt too tight to say anything at all.

The big girl beside us was Tasha, my best friend Dan's sister. We came here in her car. She was a singer. She was fantastic on the stage. Just the image of her up there made me think she was so cool.

Our roller coaster car pulled up, and my friends rushed forward, I felt my legs couldn't move. All I could think about was the roller coaster might fly off into the sky. Without a word, I turned, ran out of the line. I knew what people were saying about me, but I didn't care. I just kept moving past the crowd, found a bench near the bathrooms to sit down and put my head in my hands.

"Hey! Steve! Are you okay?" I looked up. It was Tasha!

"Oh, uh, yeah, I just started feeling, um, sick." I responded.

"You know, it's okay if you were scared. Everyone gets scared." She said.

"You don't." I said in a low voice. "I've seen you on that stage. You were fearless."

"I'm glad it looks like I'm not scared!" Tasha smiled. "But that's not true. I get really scared and nervous before I perform."

Before I noticed she was on the bench by my side, her words moved on.

"Hey, look, singing is important to me. And I want to share what I love with my people. So, even if I'm scared. I do it anyway. I push through the fear and just get up and do it. Is taking roller coaster important to you? "

"Yeah, it is. And I want to be able to look back and remember having fun with my friends. I don't want to remember running away and sitting alone by the bathrooms."

"Everyone gets scared, but brave people don't let fear control them." She looked into my eyes. Still being lost in what she said, I saw my friends coming towards me.

I got up and went with them to the coaster.

When we were leaving, Tasha took a photo of my big smile in front of the coaster. I put it on my door. It stayed there through all four years of my high school, a reminder* of what was more important to me than fear.
