Zhang Heng was a famous scientist in the history of China. His invention Hou Feng Seismometer was a great success and it helped us understand the world better.

    A few years ago, I worked at a church（教堂） and since my son was home schooling, he went with me to the church every day. Most mornings, we'd stop at a local convenience store, getting a chocolate drink for him and a cup of coffee for me.

    The clerk at the store we chose to visit refreshed our lives each day, and so we returned again and again. She had found her own way of enjoying life and her job. I'm not even sure that she was realizing that her energy put a smile on the face of each customer.

    When a customer brought cookies to the counter, any other clerk could have asked, "Would you like some milk with those cookies?" Instead, she inquired, "Would you like a lottery ticket（彩票） with those cookies? "

    She might have asked me if I wanted a donut with my coffee. But instead, she asked, "Would you like some batteries（电池） with that coffee?"

    Yes, life is what you make of it. This clerk's method of dealing with what some think is a boring job, and with the customers she met daily, made the hours in her day more enjoyable. In doing that, she also refreshed the lives of others and made them laugh.

    Sometimes, if my day at the church had been particularly tiring, we'd stop at that store before heading home. We'd giggle（咯咯笑）as we left the store, the clerk's words echoing（回响）behind us. "Would you like some shampoo with that soda?"

    I teach economics in a university three times per week. Last Monday, at the beginning of class, I asked my students how their weekend had been. One young man said that his weekend had not been so good. He had his wisdom teeth removed. Then he went on to ask me why I always seemed to be so cheerful.

    His question reminded me of something I'd read somewhere before: Every morning when you get up, you have a choice about how you want to live that day. I said, "I choose to be cheerful."

    "Let me give you an example," I continued. "Besides teaching here, I also teach at a college in Henderson, 17 miles down the freeway from where I live. One day a few weeks ago I exited the freeway and turned onto College Drive. I only had to drive another quarter mile down the road to the college. But just then my car died. I tried to start it again, but the engine wouldn't work. So I put my flashes on, took my books, and walked down the road to the college. When I got there, I called AAA(汽车协会) and asked for a tow truck to meet at my car after class. The secretary there asked me what had happened. "This is my lucky day," I replied, smiling.

    "Your car breaks down and toady is your lucky day? What do you mean?"

    "My car could have broken down anywhere along the freeway. I didn't," I replied. "Instead, it broken down at the perfect place: off the freeway, within walking distance of here. I'm still able to teach my class, and I've been able to ask for the tow truck to meet me after class! If my car was meant to break down today, it couldn't have been arranged in a more convenient way."

    I ended my story. In spite of the early hour, no one in my class seemed to be asleep. Somehow, my story had touched them.

    Jane is my good friend. She has a big family.

    Her father is Henry and her mother is Sally. Henry has a sister. Her name is Jessica. Jessica has one son. Henry also has one brother. His name is John. John has one daughter. They are all (都) in the family.

    Jane has no brother, but she has cousins. They are her good friends, too. Who are Tom and Rosa? They are Jane's grandfather and grandmother.

    They are nice to Jane, Oh, a dog is in the family. The dog's name is Cody.

When I was 7 years old, I went to the USA with my mom. I can still1 the first Halloween holiday I had in the USA.

2 the morning of Halloween, we visited a pumpkin farm. I used the pumpkin to make a lantern which had two big eyes and a scary mouth. In the afternoon we 3 the Halloween costumes(服装) and went on parade(游行) in school. Some of the costumes were nice,4 some of them looked scary. I chose to wear a suit of Superman's clothes.

I did a lot of 5 that day, but the part I liked best was" trick or treat" in the evening. After dinner,I went outside with an empty bag. I hoped 6 a lot of candies from people.

At first, I was a bit nervous, so when I knocked at the door, my heart was 7 very fast. A lady came out, and I said carefully to 8 ," Trick or treat". My voice was very low, so low that I couldn't hear myself speak. To my 9 , the lady was so kind that she gave me two candy bars, and I was so cheerful. I thanked the lady and moved on. I couldn't remember how many houses I visited, but I could remember how many candies I got, I got 91 pieces of candy.
