Nearly all our food comes from the soil(土地). Some of us eat meat, of course, but animals live on plants. If there were no plants, we would have no animals and no meat. So the soil is very necessary for life. The top of the ground is usually covered with grass or other plants. There may be dead leaves and dead plants on the grass. The waste matter(粪)from animals also falls on it.
All soil needs food. If we do not give it any, the plants will be weak. Farmers found that animals' waste is the best food for the soil, but chemical fertilizers(化肥)are also very useful. The same crop(庄稼)should not be grown in the same place every year, it's better to have a different crop. A change of crop and the use of a good fertilizer will keep the land good.

(1)、Which of the following is true?

A、All our food comes from the soil. B、Most of our food comes from soil. C、None of our food comes from the soil. D、All our food comes from animals.
(2)、What does the writer tell us in the first paragraph?

A、Leaves, plants, grass and waste live on each other. B、There would be no animals without meat. C、There would be no plants without animals. D、People, animals, plants and soil live on each other
(3)、Which is the best food for soil in the field?

A、Chemical fertilizers. B、Plants and grass. C、Animals' waste. D、Different crops.
(4)、Why do we often grow a different crop in the same place every year?

A、Because we can keep the soil rich this way. B、Because we don't have enough land. C、Because we want to have a different food. D、Because we do this as a habit(习惯).

 请阅读下面短文,从每小题所给的A、B、C三个选项中,选出一个最佳选项。

A recent survey shows young Chinese are less good at expressing thoughts and ideas. Half of those who were surveyed said they have poor verbal skills(表达能力). And 40 percent of those surveyed said they had trouble expressing themselves well in writing.

Poor education could be a cause of poor communication skills, but that may not explain everything. Of the 1, 333 young people who were surveyed, most were well-educated. The problem more likely resulted from the rise of digital(数字的) communication, with texting instead of talking, and short messages instead of long, complete sentences.

Today, having trouble expressing thoughts and ideas is a worldwide problem. In America, some people try to solve the problem by returning to so-called "Classical Education". This form of education dates back to 500 years ago in Europe. They learn grammar, rhetoric and logic. Grammar meant learning how to write a complete and correct sentence. Rhetoric was the use of grammatical devices to make one's writing more convincing(有说服力的). And logic was the use of reason to discover what is true or not true.

If you want to improve your communication skills, you might begin by joining or starting a discussion group where you can talk with others about books, latest events or even hobbies. You can also get a beautiful diary and write down your thoughts in it every day. This will enable you to have a clearer mind so that you can get your ideas and feelings across more effectively.

Sharing our school lives

Students from different countries share what their school day is like.

Every morning, I get to school at about 7:15am. After meeting with my friends, we go to our classes. All my classes are 1 hour and 15 minutes long. Between classes, we have a 5-minute break. After the first class, I go to homeroom(年级大教室) for 30 minutes. Then, it's time for a break! I eat a snack and talk with friends. At 10, I walk to my next class. Then there is the third class and lunch. At 12:30,I have the last class, and then I take the bus home with my friends Amy.

Amelia Gonzalez,12, The American School Foundation, Mexico

My day starts with my debate practice(辩论练习) at home because I am on my school debate team. The first class starts at 9:45 am. Every kid can choose(选择) four to six subjects, like math and music. The children go to different classrooms for the different subjects. In different classes, we can meet different friends in different classrooms. It is great! Our classes in school end at 3:15 pm. Then I go back home. But you also can go to clubs like drama club(戏剧社) if you like.

Chelsea Wang,13, Barker College, Hornsby, Australia

My classes start at 8:30 am. Monday through Wednesday, we have four classes in the morning. We go to different classes in different classrooms. At about 12, we have lunch for about an hour. After that, we have two more classes. At 3 pm, tutorial(辅导课) will start. You can go to any teacher if you have questions. After that, I always go to tennis practice. We only have three classes on Thursdays and Fridays, so we have more time for clubs and sports.
