Do you know a kind of bird called tawny owl? Where does it come from? It comes from Finland (芬兰). What color is it? It is brown. Are all the tawny owls brown? No. Tawny owls come in two colors: pale gray and brown. And in Finland, it often snowed in winter. Many tawny owls were pale gray. But as the Finnish (芬兰的)winters get warmer, there are more brown ones. Why is that?

    The University of Helsinki team tries to study tawny owls. They find that tawny owls get the color from their parents. The gray owls could get food easily in the snow in the past. But now the winter is warmer. There is little snow so the brown owls can live well, too. The number of the owls is getting bigger.

    The leader of the team, Dr Patrick Karell, said that the birds change their color to meet the weather. We are sure the weather change can do something to the animals.

    ChaiJing, who worked for China Central Television (CCTV) from 2001 to 2013 as a TV reporter made a documentary(纪录片) named under the Dome （穹顶之下）to educate the public about smog. It is released（发行）online on March 1^st, 2015.

    In the opening of the documentary, Chai tells the story of her daughter with a begin tumor （良性肿瘤）before her birth. “ I couldn't help worrying while seeing the polluted sky in Beijing,” she says.     Chai also went to London and Los Angeles, which had both suffered air pollution in the past, to learn how they had improved their environment.

    Chai spent one year making this 103-minute film, which cost her over 1 million yuan. In the documentary, Chai tries to answer three questions. They are “ What is smog”, “ Where does it come from?” and “What should people do?” And she calls on everyone to get into the fight against smog.

    The giraffe is the tallest modern land animal. It can be over 5. 5 meters tall. Its neck alone may be 1. 9 meters long. Yet the giraffe has only seven bones in its neck, the same number as in the humans'. Even a small bird has many more bones in its neck than a tall giraffe. Each bone in a giraffe's neck is very long, while the bones in a human's neck are short. That makes the difference. A female giraffe gives birth to one baby at a time. The baby, called a calf, is about 1. 9 meters tall at birth. By the age of eight it is full-grown. The giraffe eats mostly leaves. Because it has a long neck, it can reach the high leaves on the trees.

Some of them hook behind your ears like glasses. Other goggles have a strap (带子) that goes around your head. Both kinds stay right where you put them until you take them off. That way, you can use both hands to work or play sports, and you don t have to worry about something getting in your eyes.

    Have you heard about "Face Recognition (刷脸)" technology? It begins to become a popular and exciting development in China. In September 2017, a Kentucky Fried Chicken KPRO restaurant in Hangzhou utilized (利用) this new technology.

    Customers will go through the buffet (自助餐) line and then check out with their food using this "Just look with your face" payment method. When they get to the payment machine, they simply choose the Payment of facial recognition and then stand in front of the screen for 1-2 seconds. They then confirm their account and phone number and finish the payment process—all of it takes no more than 10 seconds!

    Nowadays, the words "Face Recognition" have become popular around China with the development of the ability to pay with facial recognition. Here are several examples of how you might hear the words in daily life in China. In Hangzhou, a high school provides a service where students can pay for meals by facial recognition. However, this isn't the only way we use the words in China! When you combine these characters together you also get another meaning: Jackie Chan got a dinner for free by "brushing his face".

    Did you know that each day one person in the USA throws away 4.4 pounds of rubbish? Almost every month, we throw away our own rubbish in packaging alone. Packaging (including boxes, bags, etc.) comes to our homes with the things we have bought. Several weeks ago, the TV news said that in a city in Italy tons of rubbish were piled up in the streets, and the smell was rather terrible. What can we do to help? We should get to know the following Rs.

    Reduce To reduce means to make less rubbish. That is one of the first things we all should do for the environment. Reduce your rubbish by doing things like packing your lunch in reusable containers(可再利用的容器), taking smaller portions(份) at dinner so you don't waste food when you have had enough, writing on both sides of paper, and using less water when taking a shower.

    Reuse to reuse is to use things again. Think about the bags you get from the shop. They can be reused to carry your lunch, to hold your rubbish, or to collect used cans. You can even take them back to the school next time to carry your things instead of getting a new bag!

    Recycle(回收利用) Recycling is an important part of keeping our planet clean and green. It can also save energy. Be sure that you don't throw things in the rubbish bins that can be recycled to make something else Paper, plastic, cans and bottles can all be recycled. But food, electrical waste and mobile phones cant. When you are not sure whether something can be recycled, go to your parents and teachers for advice.

Follow the three Rs, and every one of us can do something to save the Earth. It is also the best way to save ourselves.
