My Perfect Neighborhood

I'm Helen. I live in a perfect neighborhood. The street is very quiet. Some people like lots of noise and crowds, but I like quiet places. My house is between a big park and an apartment building. On the weekend, I sometimes buy a magazine(杂志) from the newsstand and sit in the park to read it. There is a big supermarket not too far away. Next to the supermarket is a small basketball court.

Across the street is a bakery(面包店), and next to the bakery is a cinema where I can watch interesting movies. So, you see, my neighborhood has everything I need. The only thing that isn't so nice is it's far from my school. In fact, I need to take two buses to get to school.

Spider monkeys are. New World primates（灵长类）. They get their names because they have very long limbs（四肢）and tails, which make them look like spiders. They are often seen with their limbs on different branches.

Spider monkeys can be in tropical forests of Central and South America, from southern Mexico to Brazil. They are 35 to 66 centimeters long and weigh 13 to 26 pounds. They have long tails that they use to catch tree branches, kind of like a 5th hand.

Spider monkeys live in groups. One group usually has dozens of spider monkeys. They communicate with each other through screeches（尖叫声）. A night, spider monkeys break off into smaller sleeping parties of about half a dozen or fewer. Unlike many other primates, males（雄性）stay together throughout their lives with the females. They leave their first groups to find another group.

When they go out to look for food, spider monkey groups take separate actions in order to avoid competition for it. They mainly eat fruit and nuts. They also eat other things like insects, honey, leaves, spiders and bird eggs. Spider monkeys actually play an important part in the spreading of seeds throughout the South American rain forests. Enemies that they need to keep an eye out for include animals like lions and crocodiles.

Spider monkeys are dying out. Woodcutting, which leads to the loss（丧失）of their natural living places, is playing a big role in their loss. These monkeys are also hunted for food, or to sell as pets. Spider monkeys are actually one of the most popular monkey pets around because of their look and their behavior. We must do something to protect them. After all, such good and interesting monkeys should live with humans for many years to come.

How do you go to work? Ride a bike? Take a bus? Take a car? Swim across river? In the city of Xishan, the Bingjiang river has become a famous swimming place, because some people swim along with their own things in the river to go to work.

To get from point A to point B, people in Xishan don't just swim with their clothes on, but instead pack (打包) their own things into the special bag. This bag will keep everything dry until they reach their destinations (目的地).

"I use 5 minutes walking from my home to the river. And I only use 10 minutes to swim across the river and 5 minutes to walk to my office. I have a special swim bag which I can put all my things in. But I used one hour to go to work by bus before." Li Hua, a local says.

The traditional traffic tools like cars and buses not only cause heavy traffic but also produce too much pollution in our daily life. Maybe it's time for us to change our ways to go to work.

A few years ago, I was a housewife looking after my kids. One day, my two-year-old 1 pointing at several "stood" color maker pens, cheered excitedly, "Mummy, look! I did 2 ." With the encouragement of such a 3 , he quickly got together another handful of long and thin ball-pens, trying to do the same—making them 4 on the table. Little by little, his face5 red. 6 he cried out, "Mummy, help!"

7 all the ball-pens in his hand had either sharp or round ends, I said relaxedly, "Mummy 8 help you on this." But at once he cried loudly and fell to the floor. A moment later, he ran back to the table, and 9 trying to keep the ball-pens standing up.

Without knowing 10 the ball-pens can't stand up, my son accepted the impossibility 11 many times of unsuccessful tries. He put aside all the 12 , and kept only those marker-pens for this standing up "game". This time he finished in this way again. Clearly, he already learned to let go of this 13 try.

Being persistent（坚持不懈的）is not easy. But sometimes, it is even 14 to let go. In our daily life, perhaps we don't need to face many problems 15 we know how to realize those unlikely achievable goals, and then decisively let go of them right away.

My Favourite Story

My favourite story is about Sima Guang. 

Once upon a time, there was a wise man {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(call) Sima Guang. One day, some{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(child) played hide- and- seek (捉迷藏) in the garden. While they{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (have) fun, one of them suddenly fell {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a big jar (缸). The big jar was full of water. The child was {#blank#}5{#/blank#} danger. The other children didn't know what {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(do). They shouted for help,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} there were no adults (成年人) around. Sima Guang was very smart. He used a stone (石头){#blank#}8{#/blank#}(break) the big jar while the child was shaking in the jar. The water ran out of it and the child was safe in the end. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the adults knew that, they felt happy for his intelligence (才智). 

I learnt a lot from it. When we face difficulties, we should never give up(放弃). We can use our heads {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(work) them out. Do you like the story?

Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha Won the Mixed Doubles Championship at the Paris Olympics.

On July 30th, 2024, the table tennis mixed doubles final of the Paris Olympics was held with great excitement. Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha, known as the "Shatou" Pair （莎头组合） , faced the dark horse pair from North Korea, Lee Jeong-sik （林钟勋） and Kim Geum-yeong （申裕斌） .

{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Lee's forehand attack was sharp and Kim's backhand skills were also special, which was a big challenge（挑战） for the "Shatou" Pair. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Wang Chuqin's backhand flick was very powerful, and Sun Yingsha's advantages in the first three strokes（击球） were obvious.

The scores of both sides rose in turns and the game was very close. At the critical （关键的） moment, the "Shatou" Pair, with the deep understanding through long-term training, solid（坚固的） technical skills and strong psychological quality, dared to play and fight. Finally. with the scores of 11.6.7.11,11-8,11-5.7-11,11-8, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}.

This victory was not easy. It fully showed the fighting spirit and excellent skills of the "Shatou" Pair, and also won honor for the Chinese table tennis team at this Olympics. Their excellent performance makes Chinese people proud. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}
