When everything goes wrong, always look at what you have, instead of what you have lost. Because it's not what the world takes away from you that counts; it's what you do with what you have left.

    Pain is part of growing.

Sometimes life closes doors because it's time to move forward. When times are tough, remind yourself that no pain comes without a purpose. Remember that there are two kinds of pain: pain that hurts and pain that changes you. When you roll with life, instead of resisting it, both kinds help you grow.

Every time you get hurt, you heal. After darkness there is always light – you are reminded of this every morning, but still you often forget, and instead choose to believe that the night will last forever. It won't. Nothing lasts forever.

    Complaining changes nothing.

It's always better to attempt to do something great and fail than to attempt to do nothing and succeed. It's not over if you've lost; it's over when you do nothing but complain about it. If you believe in something, keep trying. Don't let the shadows of the past darken the doorstep of your future.

The best thing you can do is to keep going.

Don't be afraid to get back up—-to try again, to love again, to live again, and to dream again. Don't let a hard lesson harden your heart. Life's best lessons are often learned at the worst times and from the worst mistakes. There will be times when it seems like everything that could possibly go wrong is going wrong.

A. Everything in life is temporary.

B. And even if you fall short, keep going.

C. Your scars are symbols of your strength.

D. Those who complain the most, accomplish the least.

E. Here are a few tips to inspire you when you need it most.

F. That's a good thing because we often won't move unless life forces us to.

G. When you feel like quitting, remember that sometimes things can be right eventually.

The Importance of Accessibility Awareness

At a recent Teen Leadership of Jewish Family Services meeting, people with disabilities talked about their lives. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} However, what amazed me most was the great importance of education about handicap accommodations (残疾人便利设施).

One school-teacher who is blind, and a woman who has used a wheelchair all her life are two important members of the National Group for Disabled Persons, devoted to raising awareness about disabilities. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} These include handicap parking spots, handrails, and wheelchair ramps. One big concern is the people who take advantage of aids, such as handicap parking spaces. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} And the meeting focused on educating the public.

    Some handicap spots have extra room next to them, marked with the “No Parking” signs. “As long as I'm not in the spot, I can take the no-parking area next to it,” some people say. However, the woman who uses a wheelchair disagrees to this. The space exists to allow someone in a wheelchair to have room to get in or out of their car. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Some walkways have handrails next to them to help those who require extra assistance. Whether it is a blind person seeking guidance or an elderly person seeking support, the rail is there for walking. Sometimes the rail is blocked, by a parked bicycle for instance, and consequently made useless. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} People who are informed of the rail's use would be less likely to mistake it for a bike rack.

Meeting some of the people who are affected by the lack of education about accommodations made me see that there is work to be done. If more people were educated about the proper uses of accommodations, there would be fewer challenges for people with physical disabilities.

A. Accommodations will vary according to the needs of the disabled.

B. As with the parking spot, this is more likely a case of lack of education.

C. They educate about all the accommodations for people with disabilities.

D. Improvement must be made so that disabled people can fully participate.

E. If there is a car in that space, the handicap parking spot is no longer useful.

F. So people without disabilities need to be educated about these accommodations.

G. I was amazed to hear about the challenges faced by people with physical disabilities.

People have been making and flying kites for about 2,000 years. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Some historians believe it the ancient Chinese may have started kite flying 2000 years ago. It is still a popular hobby in China, Japan and Korea and in other countries of the Far East where beautifully decorated appear in different colors.

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Simple kites are made by crossing two sticks and covering them with paper or cloth. Then you attach a string at the end. More expensive kites have frames made of fiberglass, plastic or aluminum. The name comes from a graceful bird called kite.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}A flat kite is the oldest and simplest type of kite.  It flies because air flows over and under the kite's wing. The pressure under the wing helps the kite lift into the air.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Early scientists sent kites up into the air to measure temperature at different heights. In 1752, Benjamin Franklin used a kite to prove that lightning was a form of electricity. He attached a metal key to the string of a kite. When lightning hit the kite, electricity passed down the string and Franklin got an electric shock. It was a very dangerous experiment that you shouldn't copy.

Kites were also used to develop airplanes. The Wright Brothers experimented with kites before they flew the first airplane. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} In World War I the Germans developed a large kite that could transport people to a submarine. Kites were also used to carry radio signals over long distances.

Today most people fly kites as a hobby. Kite festivals are organized in many cities in all parts of the world.

They respect coaches, and they also respect the referees or other officials involved in their games.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} They shout at their teammates and they talk back to coaches or referees.

So be a good sport in whatever you do! {#blank#}5{#/blank#} When others see you acting in a way that makes it clear that winning isn't the most important thing, you can move on to focusing on the important things, like having fun, getting exercise, and improving your skills.

    Living in a new country means experiencing a different way of life{#blank#}1{#/blank#} The cultures of all countries are unique, which means that people who have grown up in different places will have different ways of behaving, different ways of thinking about things and different ways of expressing themselves. Before you travel, it is useful to think about culture and the things that are affected by it {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Culture is the values, attitudes, behaviors and beliefs shared by a group of people{#blank#}3{#/blank#} We learn about the culture of our own society in a very natural way as we grow up-we learn through “do's” and “don'ts” about how we treat people, how we behave and what we believe in as children.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}You can see some parts of an iceberg-just like you can see some parts of a country's culture when you visit it. For example, you can see different ways of greeting people, hear different languages and observe different festivals and customs. However, a much bigger part of every iceberg is hidden under water. Even though this part of the iceberg is hard to see, it is very important -without it, the iceberg would not exist. The same is true of culture. There are many aspects of it which you cannot see when you visit a different country, for example the nature of friendship and the importance of time.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} It will take a long time to understand those values and beliefs because you have to work them out, but it is probably the most interesting part of any time you spend abroad.

A. Culture is like an iceberg.

B. Different people have different cultures.

C. Doing so will help you prepare for living in a new country.

D. Some people like to travel to new countries and settle down.

E. The aspects of culture you can see are based on those values and beliefs that you cannot see.

F. This means that culture is like a kind of glue (胶水)that holds society together.

Life is kind of like a party. You invite a lot of people, some leave early, some stay all night, some laugh with you, some laugh at you, and some show up really late. But in the end, after the fun, there are a few who stay to help you clean up the mess. And most of the time, they aren't even the ones who made the mess{#blank#}1{#/blank#} They are the ones who matter most. Here are four things real friends do differently:

They face problems together. A real friend is someone who sees the pain in your eyes while everyone else still believes the smile on your face.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Just look for someone who will face them with you.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}Your word means everything. If you say you're going to do something, DO IT! If you say you're going to be somewhere, BE THERE! If you say you feel something, MEAN IT! If you can't, won't, and don't, then DON'T LIE. Real friends keep promises and tell the truth upfront.

They accept each other. Trying to change a person never works. A real friend is someone who truly knows you and loves you just the same.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Be yourself and people will love the real you. If you feel like changing something about your friend, ask yourself what change you can make in yourself instead.

They support each other's growth changes. Our needs change with time. When someone says, “You've changed,” it's not always a bad thing.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Don't apologize for it. Instead, be open and sincere, explain how you feel, and keep doing what you know in your heart is right,

A. They keep their promises.

B. No one is happy all the time.

C. They make time for each other.

D. Don't change so that people will like you.

E. Sometimes it just means you've grown.

F. These people are your real friends in life.

G. Don't look for someone who will solve all your problems.

Getting your children to study can be a little like getting them to eat their vegetables.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Make a study time and have it at the same time every day. This will help your kids to learn to schedule their day and will give them a sense of control over how they spend their time.

Allow them to study in blocks of time, such as for half an hour with a fiveminute break in the middle. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Ideal(理想的) study times are after dinner or right after school before dinner.

    Never allow your children to study in front of the television, as that will encourage passive activity. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

You'll also need to help your kids find the right place to study. After you've set up a good study time for little learners, set up a good place where they can get those creative juices flowing.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Make sure there is a table or a desk and a comfortable chair.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} This includes helping them out with their homework sometimes and being there for them with the answers to any questions. The input you give your children during study periods will help form a bond and help make studying enjoyable.
