Do potatoes play a small role on your dinner table? If so, let's have a big change! Potatoes are becoming China's fourth staple food (主食) after rice, wheat and corn. Using potatoes as a staple can make our diets healthier and more balanced (均衡的).

They are good for us in many ways.

Potatoes are nutritious (有营养的). They are rich in vitamin C. A potato's vitamin C is as rich as 10 apples. Potatoes are also low in calories — they have just 75 percent of the amount of calories that wheat and corn have.

Also, potatoes are easy to grow. People can grow them in almost every part of China. Potatoes don't need much water to grow. China is facing water shortage problems, so potatoes are a good choice.

Many Chinese people think potatoes are like vegetable. They cook potatoes along with other ingredients (材料). But as a staple, potatoes can be cooked differently. Scientists have found ways to make potato flour, noodles and other staple food, just like how we use rice or wheat.

When you're closing your eyes and hitting your pillow, you're probably not giving much thought about the sleeping position throughout the night. Most people don't change their sleeping positions throughout their lives. The following is why you might want to pay more attention: Your sleeping position can actually say a bit about who you are and what your personality is like.

There are many sleeping positions. The fetal (胎儿的) sleeping position is generally the most common sleeping position. Fetal sleepers sleep on their side, they move into a position in which their body makes a rounded shape. People who sleep in the fetal position are often quite sensitive and generally shy. They are often worried or nervous and don't focus their attention on the main problem, but get into trouble on very small pieces of information.

The log (木头) sleeper rests on the side with a straight body when hands and legs are kept at the sides. These sleepers are often relaxed, but also can easily believe lie-tellers. If you're a log sleeper, you might want to keep in mind that it's good to be easy-going and have less stress, but don't be so quick to go with the flow (流) at all times.

The third one is the soldier position. Soldier sleepers typically lie on their backs with both arms close to their sides. In general, they are the strong and silent type. However, they can also put the pressure on. "They can be quite strict with themselves as well as others," a scientist added.

Most teens need more than 9 hours of sleep each night. But about 1 in 4 teens has trouble in sleeping. Lack of sleep can affect everything from our feelings to how well we focus on tasks like studying. It can also influence sports performance, increase our chances of getting sick, and may lead to weight gain in some people.

How can we get the sleep we need? Here are some ideas:

Be active during the day. Get at least 60 minutes of exercise a day. Physical activity can decrease stress and help people feel more relaxed. Just don't work too close to bedtime because exercise can wake you up before it slows you down.

Say goodnight to electronics. Experts suggest using the bedroom for sleep only. At least shut everything down an hour or more before lights out.

Keep a sleep routine. Going to bed at the same time every night helps the body expect sleep. Creating a bedtime routine can improve this relaxation effect. Reading, listening to music, spending time with a pet, writing a diary or doing anything else can relax you.

Expect a good night's sleep. Instead of worrying that you won't sleep, remind yourself that you can. Say "Tonight, I will sleep well." several times during the day. It can also help to practise breathing exercises or gentle exercises before bed.

Everyone has a sleepless night once in a while. But if you regularly have trouble in sleeping and you think it's affecting your mood or performance, talk to your doctor.

Grandparents are respected in many human societies. But telling stories about old times and overfeeding grandchildren seem like human qualities. Are these classic grandparent behaviors really limited to humans?

Do any animals know their grandparents the way people do?

For most species on Earth, the answer is certainly " No" . " Usually, there aren't grandparents around anymore when an animal is born,"  said Mirkka Lahdenpera, a biologist at the University of Turku in Finland. " Even if an animal's life span does overlap (重叠) with its grandparents', most species spread out to avoid competing for resources, so the chance of running into a grandparent is slim."

But there are a few clear exceptions, primarily among mammals (哺乳动物) that live in close social groups. In troops of langur monkeys in India, older females lived together with their daughters and grandchildren. The grandmother langurs defend the group's babies against attacks and even give their own grandchildren special treatment.

Many whale species, too, travel in family groups that include both grandmothers and grandchildren.

Elephant herds are also famously matriarchal. They are led by a grandmother, who can live to around 80 years old, and are generally made up of her daughters and their young. The females in a herd form close bonds and work together to raise their young.

Lahdenper found that the babies of young mothers were eight times more likely to survive if their grandmothers lived near them than if they didn't. When the young mothers were older and more experienced at raising babies, this beneficial grandmother effect disappeared even if the actual grandmothers were still around.

Indeed, most evidence for the benefits of grand parenting comes from mammals. But in 2010, researchers found that in troops of insects called gall-forming aphids, older females defend their relatives after they've stopped reproducing (繁殖).

And what about grandfathers? Studies of humans in recent decades have shown that a living grandfather can improve a person's mental health and other indicators of well-being. But there's no evidence of that in the animal kingdom. Male animals rarely socialize with their own children, let alone any grandchildren.
