"If mum finds out that I'm going to the beach, I'll be in big trouble." I said to myself softly in a low voice.

I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk casually into the kitchen. As I was walking towards the back door, mum asked without looking up from her "dish-washing", "Where are you going?" I answered back without hesitation," I am going to the garden to play." After I got out of the kitchen, I breathed a sign of relief. My plan had worked out fine so far. I climbed the fence and jumped onto the muddy field next to my house and started running towards the bus stop at top speed,

After half an hour I was at the beach scanning the crowd for my friends, Jimmy and Bobby. Two young men were racing in the canoes (独木舟). After a while, I saw them near a coconut tree. I ran towards them and got into my swimming trunk (游泳裤). For about an hour, we played volleyball happily.

Suddenly, Bobby hit the ball too hard and the ball fell into the sea. Just as Bobby was going to pick up the ball, the tide came in and carried the ball further and further away from the shore. I wanted to show off my swimming skills so I declared to help get the ball for them.

I dived into the water and started swimming at a steady pace. After swimming for about ten minutes, I became tired but when I saw that the ball was only a few feet away from me, I put in an extra burst of speed. However, just as I was going to get the ball, a very strong current swept the ball further away from me. At that moment, a string of weed (海草)tangled (缠绕) up with my feet and I could not swim properly.

I struggled to keep afloat but it was no use. "If I had listened to my parents, this would never have happened," I thought silently.

Paragraph 1

Finally, after struggling for a minute or two, I still got pulled underwater.

Paragraph 2

When I woke up, I was in an empty room lying on a bed.

短文续写。

We moved on into the jungle-- a forest where large numbers of tall trees and plants grow very close together. Old Mali went in front and I followed close behind him. We stopped for the night about an hour before it began to get dark.

Old Mali lit a fire. When it was bight he showed me how to make a bed with moss(青苔,苔藓).

    It was soft and comfortable.

Mali, how did you learn to make such a bed?  I asked.

I learned to make beds like that, Mali replied, ―by watching and listening to others. That is the real way to learn anything.

Will you let me watch you always?  I asked Old Mali. ―I want to learn all the things you know about the jungle.

When we had finished our supper, Old Mali got onto his bed and lay down. It was now completely dark. In the fire light, Old Mali seemed to be fast asleep on his bed. I suddenly felt alone and afraid.

All day in the jungle, while we had been walking, I had heard noises of animals. Now they seemed to be much nearer. The jungle was now a wall of blackness in the light of the fire.

I felt frightened and suddenly my mouth went dry. I wanted to scream. I felt my mouth opening wide, ready to scream as loud as possible.

But I did not scream. I saw Old Mali's face in the firelight. This made me feel ashamed. I held my teeth tightly together to stop myself from screaming. I lay down and closed my eyes.

As soon as I closed my eyes. I heard a thousand noises. The whole jungle became alive with animals moving quietly and carefully all around me. Suddenly Old Mali took a deep breath and made a noise. I was hearing so many imaginary noise and the real noise made by Old Mali gave me a terrible fright.

I opened my eyes and jumped out of bed. I pulled my knife out and held it above my head.

Carl lost his job. He tried to find another one but it wasn't easy. As a result, the poor fellow couldn't pay his bills and he couldn't even find anybody to lend him any.

Carl spent most of his days at home. Sometimes he looked out of the window and watched his neighbour's house. An old professor lived there alone. Strangely, he hardly talked to his neighbours. Carl could see into the professor's house because he never drew the curtain. The rooms were full of antique(古老的) furniture and vases. Carl thought, "If I got an antique vase, I could sell it for a lot of money."

Every day Carl saw the professor. He left at 10 o'clock in the morning and came back home at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. He had a dog. Carl often went to the fence and played with it or gave it a piece of meat.

One day Carl thought, "I will go into the professor's house and steal a vase. I will break the window and climb in. The dog is not a problem."

There was an old gun in the cellar. It had been his great grandfather's favourite thing a long time before. Carl didn't want to use the gun but he thought, "Anything could happen."

He wanted to hide the gun under his coat but it was too long so he had to cut the end off with a saw.

The next morning he watched the professor leaving home at 10 o'clock. Carl climbed over the fence. The dog ran to him and Carl gave it a big bone. He threw a piece of stone through the window, which broke. It wasn't high. He could climb into the house easily.

He looked around inside. There were paintings on the walls, small figures and vases on the shelves and the floor. Carl didn't know much about arts. He couldn't choose. He reached his hands towards a big vase when he heard a noise. The front door opened and someone entered the house.

Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks(盯着他们).

One day, Ali took Zahra's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali's running shoes. Zahra's school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.

Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.

The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided(碰撞) with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground.

I was 11 years old when I asked my mom for a piano and piano lessons. Even I myself didn't know how to stop the fever growing from my whole heart and soul. What interested me most was the fantastic feeling of standing in the spotlight and being admired by tens of thousands of music fans.

But we were affected by the economic decline. In fact, we could barely make ends meet at that time and even couldn't afford to buy our favorite cheese cakes. So she said a polite "no".

That didn't stop me. I Googled the measurements for a keyboard, drew the keys on a piece of paper and stuck it on my desk. I would click notes (音符) on an online keyboard and "play" them back on my paper one—keeping the sound they made on the computer in my head. I spent six months playing without touching a real piano. I was occupied by the thought of playing a real piano. The desire was so strong that I could hardly control my passion.

Once my mom saw that I was serious, she borrowed money and bought me 10 lessons. I still remember the first one. I was struck by how real the sound of the piano was. The sound was so pure and inviting that nobody could drag me away from the magic musical instrument. I held it dear. My mother stood in front of it, listening attentively to my playing with tears in her eyes. I sat my grade one after eight lessons. Once I started secondary school, we couldn't afford lessons again. I passed grade three, then grade five, practicing only on my piece of paper.

My school didn't offer music A-level. I found the Purcell School for young musicians. The tryouts were difficult. Some of the questions involved an evaluation of the composer or when some piece was written. I felt depressed. Would I step back? I said to myself a polite "no".
