Many people have long dreamed of being able to fly around as simply as riding a bicycle.

Yet the safety and strength of a flying bike was always a big problem. Over the past 10 years' developments in technology have moved the dream of personal flying vehicle closer to reality. Now, two groups of inventors say such vehicles may be available very soon.

Grant Stapleton from Malloy Aeronautics says the Hoverbike, which is able to get in and out of small spaces very quickly, will be a truly personal flying vehicle." It can be moved across continents very quickly because it can be folded and packed," he adds.

Mr. Stapleton says safety was the company's main concern when developing the Hoverbike, He says the designers solved the safety issue by using overlapping rotors (折叠旋翼)to power the vehicle. The company is testing both a one-third size model and a full-size prototype (原型))of the Hoverbike.

Inventors say their Hovebike will most likely be used first by the police and emergency rescue teams.

In New Zealand, the Martin Aircraft Company is also testing a full-size prototype of its personal flying bike, called Jetpack. It can fly for more than 30 minutes, up to 1,000 meters high and reach a speed of 74 kilometers per hour.

Peter Coker is the CEO of Martin Aircraft Company. He said Jetpack" is built around safety from the start" In his words, reliability is the most important part of it. We have safety built into the actual structure itself very similar to a Formula One racing car."

Jetpack uses a gasoline-powered engine that produces two powerful jet streams. Mr. Coker says it also has a parachute (降落伞)that can be used should there be an emergency.

"It opens at a very low altitude and actually saves both the aircraft and the pilot in an emergency," he adds.

“Clothes-swapping” has become an increasing popular activity for women in the United States. The women can give away unwanted clothing at a clothes swap event and get something different in return.
Recently about 300 women went to a clothes swap at a high school in Springfield, Virginia. It was the largest crowd ever for the area's popular clothing-swap group.
Daphne Steinberg was having a very good day. “For anyone who knows Ann Taylor LOFT,Ann Taylor is a really nice women's designer and I'll totally wear this to work. So I love that, I love that I can equip myself for work, have a good time in doing it, not totally bankrupt myself. ”
Kim Pratt organized the clothing-swapping event in Springfield. She also organized a money-raising activity for the high school's debate team. It's one of several ways that her group gives to charitable causes. Another is by donating all of the “un-swapped” clothing to shelters for victims of domestic violence.
“I started doing this myself four years ago, and we've been doing it for four years, getting bigger and bigger each time we have a swap.”
She used the social media website meetup. com to help publicize the events. The website has helped her group grow from 30 members to 1,300. Ms Pratt says most of the members respect clothing swap rules. But she says competition for desirable fashion can be strong.
“We have to tell people sometimes not to hover (徘徊) over the new people coming in with their clothing. As they put it out, some people tend to grab (抢夺) the stuff right out of their hands and it becomes like a free-for-all. We try to avoid that as much as possible.”

How to Enjoy Life As a Teen

The "best years of your life"? Maybe not, but you can learn to make the most of your high school days.

Learn to appreciate small things. Whether it's having a computer, having friends, having a good supply of food, a bed to sleep on, family that loves you, having a decent education or simply being born in this world, value it. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Be happy, and life will reward you. Remember that these are the last few years you will be able to enjoy yourself without having to worry about the responsibility of an adult, but make sure you prepare yourself for when you do become one. When you actually become an adult, you'll learn to love that responsibility and you probably never want to go back.

Choose your friends wisely. Unlike what many articles state, you don't have to be popular and have a gazillion friends to be happy. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Try to have friends that like you who you are, not just because you are wearing a certain brand of shoes or something like that. These are people who shop at the same store as you; not someone who will sympathize with you when your dog dies.

Keep your grades up. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} This also sets you up to get into a college you want to go to, which in turn prepares you for a career you will enjoy, improving your quality of life in the future. You'll get cheap car insurance as well if you have at least a B or A average.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Participating in clubs, activities, and sports increases your chances of meeting new friends. While you only need 4 or 5 close friends, that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to meet new people. Participating gives you something to do instead of sitting bored at home and wallowing in self-pity.

Work at a job you can enjoy. Working is a great way co gain experience and to meet other people. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} This will look great on your resume. If you can't find work, especially in this hard economic time, volunteer or make your own job.

A. Be sociable.

B. Remember the point of life is for you to enjoy it.

C. Find a hobby that is meaningful or practical.

D. In fact, many of the "friends" you have when you are popular are not true friends.

E. When you do get out of college, interviewing companies will look at your previous work experience.

F. Even though you want to enjoy your teen life as best as possible, don't idle away your time in school.

G. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing your hard work pay off in the form of A's and B's (but mainly A's).

Culture can affect not just language and customs, but also how people experience the world on surprisingly basic levels.

Researchers, with the help of brain scans, have a shocking differences in perception (感知) between Westerners and Asians, what they see when they look at a city street, for example, or even how they perceive a simple line in a square, according to findings published in a leading science journal.

In Western countries, culture makes people think of themselves as highly independent individuals. When looking at scenes, Westerners tend to focus more on central objects than on their surroundings. East Asian cultures, however, emphasize inter-dependence. When Easterners look at a scene, they tend to focus on the surroundings as well as the object.

Using an experiment involving two tasks, Dr. Hedden asked subjects to look at a line simply to estimate its length, a task that played to American's strengths. In another, they estimated the line's length relative to the size of a square, an easier task for the Asians.

The level of brain activity, by tracking blood flow, was then measured by Brain Scanners. The experiment found that although there was no difference in performance, and the tasks were very easy, the levels of activity in the subjects' brain were different. For the Americans, areas linked to attention were more, when they worked on the task they tended to find more difficult — estimating the line's size relative to the square. For the Asians, the attention areas lit up more during the harder task also—estimating the line's length without comparing it to the square. The findings are a reflection of more than ten years of previous experimental research into East-West differences.

In one study, for instance researchers offered people a choice among five pens; four red and one green. Easterners were more likely to choose a red pen while Westerners were more likely to choose the green one.

Culture is not affecting how you see the world, but how you choose to understand and internalize(使内化) it.

But such habits can be changed. Some psychological studies suggest that when an Easterner goes to the West or vice versa, habits of thought and perception also begin to change. Such research gives us clues to how our brain works and is hopeful for us to develop programs to improve our memory, memory techniques and enhance and accelerate our learning skills.

If you wear glasses, chances are you are smarter. Research published in the famous British journal Nawre Conurunications has found — people who displayed higher levels of intelligence were almost 30 percent more likely to wear glasses.

The scientist, studied the genes of thousands of people between the ages of 16 and 102. The study showed intelligence can be connected to physical characteristics. One characteristic was eyesight. In out of 10 people who were intelligent, there was a higher chance they need glasses. Scientists also said being smarter has other benefits. It is connected to better health.

It is important to remember these are connections which are not proven causes. Scientists call this correlation. Just because something is connoted to something else does not mean one of those caused the other. And it's worth noting that what constitutes (构成)intelligence is subjective and can be difficult, if not impossible, to measure.

Forget genes thought. Plenty of proof shows wearing glasses makes people think you are more intelligent, even if you do no, need glasses. A number of studies have found people who wear glasses are seen as smarter, hard-working and honest. Many lawyers this idea to help win their cases. Lawyer Harvey Slovis explained this. "Classes soften their appearance," he said. Sometimes there has been a huge amount of proof showing that people he was defending broke the law. He had them wear glasses and they weren't found guilty.

Glasses are also used to show someone is intelligent in movies and people who wear glares have begun to shift. People who do not need glasses sometimes wear them for fashion only. They want to look worldly or cool. But not everyone is impressed by this idea, thought. GQ magazine said people who wear glasses for fashion are trying too hard to look smart and hip(时髦的). However, that hasn't stopped many celebrities (名人) from happily wearing glasses even if they do not need them. Justen Bieber is just one high - profile fen of fashion glasses.
