A single dose(剂量) of an experimental vaccine(疫苗) can protect mice against the Zika(寨卡) virus, raising renewed hope of a vaccine for humans, say scientists. The US team say the results, published in Nature, are "striking" and should encourage research efforts.

Tests in humans could begin in months. But even if these go well, a licensed vaccine for widespread use to protect those at most risk such as pregnant women would still be years away, experts advise. Zika has been spreading across Central and South America and, most recently, Africa. More than 60 countries and territories now have continuing transmission(传播) of the disease, which is carried by mosquitoes. The virus causes serious birth damages during pregnancy and has been declared a global public health emergency.

Now, developing a vaccine for pregnant women to protect their unborn babies is an international research priority(优先事项). US scientists from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School tested two types of Zika vaccine in mice – one based on bits of genetic(基因的) code from the virus and another that is an inactive (and therefore harmless) copy of Zika. Both worked well, protecting every mouse that was immunised against the virus. In comparison, all of the mice not given the vaccine caught Zika after they were exposed to it.

Researchers say they will push ahead with developing the needed virus vaccine. There are many existing vaccines for other disease that use this type of technology, while there are relatively few DNAbased vaccines. Of course, future tests will need to check the vaccine is safe and effective in humans, as well as how long the immunity might last.

(1)、If the tests in humans go smoothly,      .
A、a vaccine for use in the laboratory will be still be years away. B、pregnant women in Africa will be the first to benefit from the vaccine. C、a licensed vaccine will still not be accessible in a short term. D、The Zika virus will cause less serious birth defects during pregnancy in months.
(2)、Which of the following statements is NOT true?
A、many countries are actively involved in the research of the Zika vaccine. B、US scientists have tested more than two types of Zika vaccine in mice. C、None of the mice given the vaccine caught Zika. D、It is still unknown whether the vaccine is safe and effective.
(3)、Which can be the best title for the passage?
A、Zika vaccine 'works very well' in mice B、Zika vaccine still has a long way to go C、International researches into Zika have paid off D、More attention has been paid to Zika vaccine

Staying positive through the cold season could be your best defense against getting ill,a new American study suggests.

In an experiment that exposed healthy volunteers to a cold or flu virus, researchers found that people with a generally sunny character were less likely to fail ill.The findings, published in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, build on evidence that a “positive emotional style” can help ward off the common cold and other illness.

Researchers believe the reasons may be both objective―as in happiness improving immune function―and subjective―as in happy people being less troubled by a sore throat or runny nose.“People with a positive emotional style may have different immune responses to the virus,” explained lead study author Dr Sheldon Cohen of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.“And when they do get a cold, they may interpret their illness as being less severe.”

Cohen and his colleagues has found in a previous study that happier people seemed less likely to catch a cold, but some questions remained as to whether the emotional quality itself had the effect.

For the new study, the researchers had 193 healthy adults complete standard measures of personality qualities, physicals health, and emotional “style”.Those who tended to be happy, energetic and easy –going were judged as having a positive emotional style, while those who were often unhappy, tense, and hostile had a negative style.

Afterwards, the researchers gave them nose drops containing either a cold virus or a particular flu virus.Over the next six days, the volunteers reported on any aches, pains, sneezing they had, while the researchers collected objective data.Cohen and his colleagues found that happy people were less likely to develop a cold.

What's more, when happy folks did develop a cold, their symptoms were less severe than expected based on objective measures.

On the contrary, people with negative characters were not at increased risk of developing a cold based on objective measures, though they did tend to get down about their symptoms.

“We find that it's really positive emotions that have the big effect,” Cohen said,“not the negative ones.”

So can a bad-tempered person fight a cold by deciding to be happy?

Good health is the most valuable thing a person can have but one cannot take good health for granted. It is important to remember that the body needs proper care in order to be healthy. There are three things that a person can do to help stay in good shape, eat right food, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly.

Proper nutrition is important for good health. Your body cannot work well unless it receives the proper kind "fuel". Don't eat too much food with lots of sugar and fat, eat plenty of foods high in protein, like meat, fish, eggs and nuts. Vegetables and fruits are very important because they provide necessary vitamins and minerals. However, don't overeat It is not helpful to be overweight

Getting the proper amount of sleep is also important. If you don't get enough sleep, you feel tired and easily get angry. You have no energy. Over a long period of time a little amount of sleep may even result in a change of personality(人的个性).Be sure to allow yourself from seven to nine hours of sleep each. If you do, your body will feel strong and refreshed, and your mind will be sharp.

Finally, get plenty of exercise. Exercise firms the body, strengthens the muscles, and prevents you from gaining weight. It also improves your heart and lungs. If you follow a regular exercise program, you will probably increase your life-span(寿命). Any kind of exercise is good. Most sports are excellent for keeping the body in good shapes: basketball, swimming, bicycling, running and so on. Sports are not only good for your body, but they are enjoyable and interesting, too.

If everybody were to eat the right foods, get plenty of sleep and exercise regularly, the world would be a happier and healthier place. We would all live to be much older and wiser.
