Winter can be a difficult time to take exercise. Apart from the short daylight and cold weather, there are also plenty of holidays to keep you away from exercising. So how to keep fit and not to put on too much weight during the winter time? Here are some tips for you.

You don't necessarily have to do some intense(剧烈的) sports. When you run or walk, don't worry about how fast or slow you're going. Just find a rhythm(节奏) that makes you feel easy and comfortable. Winter is not the time to be strict with yourself.

Before you head out, warm up indoors to slowly raise the heart rate(心率) , without sweating(流汗) a lot. Run in place, walk up and down the stairs, or use a jump rope. It does work as long as it can get your heart beating faster.

Try to take exercise during the daytime. When the air is the warmest and the sun is out, the weather is more suitable for exercising. But if you have to walk or run in the dark, do carry a flashlight.

Exercising with a friend, even once a week, can help you get out of the door. It's hard to stay and not to move when someone is waiting for you, and you two can encourage each other.

If you cannot stand the cold outside, why not go for some indoor sports? You can take a yoga class, play badminton or swim in an indoor swimming pool. Whatever sport makes you want to exercise, just do it. Never stop moving for health!

If you receive an e-mail that looks something like this:

ARE YOU GOING TO CLASS TODAY? How does reading this message make you feel? Why did the sender use all capital letters(大写字母)? Was he or she angry, or did that person just forget to turn off the 'Cap Lock' on the computer? The fact is, this e-mail is usually the way that people shout online. Knowing when and when not to use capital letters is just one example of online etiquette(礼仪) —often called 'netiquette'. Virginia Shea's book, Netiquette, lists a basic set of dos and don'ts for communicating suitably with others on the Internet. Following are some of her suggestions.

First, always remember that you are sending messages to a real person, not just to a computer. Don't type anything that you wouldn't say to someone's face. Also, remember that the person who receives your message cannot hear the tone of your voice, or see the expression on your face, so make sure your meaning is clear.

Don't do anything online that you wouldn't do in real life. Don't take anything without paying for it, unless it's free. Don't use information that someone else has written, and say it's yours. Don't read other people's e-mail—you wouldn't open your next-door neighbor's mailbox and open their mail, right? Do share your knowledge of the Internet with others. It's a big place with lots of information, and there are many new things to discover.

Remember that people judge(判断) you by your words as well as your actions, so try to write well. Good writing skills, as well as correct grammar and spelling, matter(有关系). Send polite, well-written e-mail messages to others. If you're uncertain about how to spell a word or which phrases to use, look it up. There are lots of helpful books and websites.

It's okay to show your ideas online in forums(论坛) like chat room or message boards, but don't start arguments with people. 'Flame wars' in online discussions can be interesting to read, but are often unfair to other members of the group. Express your opinions, but remember that fighting online or offline is just not suitable.

When you're online, just as in 'real' life, try to respect(尊重) other people's space, privacy and feelings. Remember, you are not the only one travelling on this highway!

Parents with high expectations for their children are nothing new to Chinese kids. However, people often don't realize that children also have expectations for their parents. What expectations do Chinese children have for parent-child relationships?

China Youth & Children Research Center did a survey on this topic in the United States, Japan, South Korea and China. The survey found that 83.8 percent of Chinese children want to be friends with their parents, the greatest amount among the four countries. This means that they want a more equal(平等的) relationship with their parents.

According to China Youth Daily, traditional Chinese values (价值观) such as respecting one's elders and the concept of hierarchy (等级观念) are preventing parents from becoming friends with their children. Many Chinese parents criticize (批评) and push their children, as there is lots of competition in school. It requires efforts from both parents and children to create a friendship in family. As children, what can you do to create a pleasant atmosphere (氛围) at home and make friends with your parents? Read on to find out.

Tips to make home a happy place

How can we get along better with our parents, and at the same time, grow into adults ourselves? Here are some tips.

    Act like an adult

If you want your parents to give you more freedom, you should show them that you're ready to be treated differently. For example, learn to use self-control. Show them that you can manage your time well.

    Open your heart

US psychologist (心理学家) Carl E. Pickhard wrote in Psychology Today that sharing feelings with our parents can lead to positive changes, while not sharing them can cause misunderstandings.

    Care for your parents

Do something nice or helpful for your parents. For example, help them with some home chores, make them gifts or teach them some computer skills. Their trust in you will grow.
