The Art of Paper

    Chen Zijiang is a paper cutting expert whom I interviewed for my article on Chinese Art. Paper-cutting is something that he learned to do from an early age.

    "It is a Chinese folk art with a long history," Mr. Chen told me, "Paper cuts of animals have been found in tombs. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}" He added that by the Southern Song Dynasty, paper-cutting had become an important part of everyday life.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}They are paper cuts for decoration, for religious purposes (宗教目的) and for design patterns.

    Paper cuts for decoration are often seen, on windows and gates. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}They are also used on presents. A present for parents whose child has recently been born might show a paper cut of children, for example. Paper cuts which show the Chinese character for double happiness are often used to celebrate weddings.

    Paper cuts for religious purposes are often found in temples{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

    The third kind of paper cuts are these used to make patterns on clothing. They are also sometimes used to decorate jewelry (珠宝) boxes. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

A. They are usually put up during holidays to bring good luck.

B. They are also used as offerings to the dead.

C. Dragons are very popular patterns for these designs.

D. They can date back to the time of the Northern and Southern Dynasty.

E. Mr. Chen went on to explain that there are three types of paper cuts which people still make today.

 根据短文内容及首字母提示, 填写所缺单词, 使短文意思完整。每空限填一词。

The chrysanthemum(菊花)is a very popular flower in China. The beautiful flower bas many m{#blank#}1{#/blank#} in Chinese culture.

The chrysanthemum is k{#blank#}2{#/blank#} as one of the "Four Gentlemen in Plants". The other three are the plum blossom, the orchid, and bamboo. In the past, they stood for noble (高尚的)qualities.

The chrysanthemum comes out in bright colors during cold a{#blank#}3{#/blank#} days when most flowers die. They are beautiful, strong and tough. The flower thus greatly inspired (启 发)ancient Chinese poets. They spoke highly of its beauty and also used the chrysanthemum to represent(代表)their o{#blank#}4{#/blank#}in their works.

Tao Yuanming was a f{#blank#}5{#/blank#} poet. He once wrote a poem about living as a hermit(隐士) . He described how he loved the chrysanthemum and used it to show his s{#blank#}6{#/blank#} in the poem.

"I pluck chrysanthemums under the eastern hedge, and gaze afar toward the southern mountains(采菊东篱下, 悠然见南山), "Tao wrote in his poem. Since then, the chrysanthemum has become the s{#blank#}7{#/blank#} of the hermit. But the chrysanthemum is not only found in Chinese poems. It is also p{#blank#}8{#/blank#} of Chinese food.

The Chongyang Festival falls on the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar year. On that day, drinking wine made from chrysanthemums is a popular tradition. Chrysanthemum tea is also usually seen on Chinese dinner tables. It tastes great. People believe it is good for one's health, e{#blank#}9{#/blank#} for eyes.

In a word, the chrysanthemum has i{#blank#}10{#/blank#}people's life deeply and widely.

 根据短文内容,判断正、误。

Are you an "I" person or an "E" person? People have talked about it a lot online recently. They are part of a popular personality (性格) test called MBTI.

Everyone's result has four letters. "I" and "E" are the first letters. People are either "I", meaning introverted (内向的), or "E", for extroverted (外向的).

But sometimes introverted people can be outgoing, too. For example, an "I" person will hang out with a group of introverted friends. The person may do things a more "extroverted" person would do. For example, he or she may share their thoughts and feelings with others and ask strangers for directions.

I'm one of these kinds of people. Most of the time, I show an interest in new classmates and friends. I talk with them to show I'm friendly. But honestly, I like being alone and staying quiet.

I have to say, the personality test is just for fun. Everyone's personality is different. Don't let the test tell you who you are.

In this case, I was a bad example. I used to be very interested in my friends' MBTI results. I would get upset if their results didn't match the way I see them.

Soon, I think everyone might have a "personality stamp". For example, "P" people don't like to make plans. On the other hand, "J" people are planners and list-makers. My sister is a "P" person. She never plans. But one day, she was happily making a day-to-day travel plan for the holiday.

"I thought you were a 'P' person," I said to her.

"Do I have to follow what my personality test tells me?" she replied.

"Oh no," I said to myself. "I've taken the result too seriously."

The four letters don't tell you everything about a person. And no one should live according to what four letters tell you.

 根据短文内容,将下列方框内的句子还原到文中空白处,使短文内容完整通顺。(选项中有一项为多余项。)

What is stress? {#blank#}1{#/blank#} It can make you feel bad and you might even have a stomachache or a headache.

 Lots of things can cause stress in a teenager's life. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Good stress often comes when your teachers ask you to answer questions in class or when you have to give a report. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} .

 Bad stress can only make you worried and nervous. For example, you don't want to eat anything before a singing competition, or you can't sleep well before an exam. Such kind of stress isn't going to help you. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

 Once you find you' re feeling stressed, you can try talking about your problems with an adult you trust, like a parent or a teacher.

 The best way to fight stress is to have a balanced (保持平衡的) life. Make sure you keep in mind: Sleep, Excrcise, Rest and Food, If you get enough sleep and eat well, and if you exercise and leave time for fun, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

A. Instead, it can make you sick.

B. Such kind of stress can help you do something better.

C. Stress is what you feel when you are worried. or uncomfortable about something.

D. Usually there are two kinds of stress: good stress and bad stress.

E. You can do nothing to lower(减少) stress.

F. you' ll probably feel less stressed.
