Mobile phones are very popular with people. They are becoming smaller and more convenient.

Now the scientists in Canada made a smartphone (智能手机）from electronic paper. The PaperPhonc is flexible. People can control it by bending it or writing on it with a pen.

      Though the PaperPhone is only millimeters (毫米）thick, people can do many things with it. For example, people can use it to make phone calls, read books, watch movies and play music. So many people use it as a computer.

The scientists think there will be no paper in the office. And people can store what they want in the PaperPhone.

The scientists from Queen's University in Kingston, Canada said the PaperPhone would be in style in the future. It may be the end of paper and printers.

To make people be interested in this kind of mobile phones, the scientists will make it more beautiful. People will see the PaperPhone on May 10th this year.

    Scientists have always believed that snails are not able to find their way home. But Briton Ruth Brooks, a retired teacher, has found that it is not true.

    Brooks began an experiment on snails after she got mad with the snails in her garden.

    The snails had eaten her vegetables. She didn't want to kill them, so she took them to another place. But she found they always seemed to come back.

    Brooks did an experiment. She marked the snails in her garden with nail polish(指甲油).

    She placed the snails in the area around her home and made notes of their movements.

    She found that snails have a strong homing instinct (本能); the longest returning snail traveled back 90 meters. Brooks has been named Britain's best amateur (业余的) scientist after her work won the BBC Radio 4 project, So You Want To Be A Scientist.

    She said, "I've always wanted to know whether the snails that eat my plants just come back when I move them, and if they do, what is their homing distance?

    "I would say on the evidence (证据) that it would be safe to take your snails away beyond 100m or even further. If you put them somewhere nice with some food, you can be almost certain that they won't come back."

Computer

    There are all kinds of machines. They are used in many different ways. One kind of machines is called computer. A computer can do many things. A computer can do maths problems. People can do maths problems,too. But they can't do it as fast as a computer. Computers remember things. Computers remember everything people tell them. People can not remember as many things as computers. Computers help to tell what the weather will be like. Computers help to fly rockets and spaceships.

    There are a lot of ways computers are used. They are used in thousands of ways. But they are not alwaysused in the same way. Some computers do just a few things. Some computers can do a lot of things. There are huge (巨大的) computers. There are small computers, too. There may be computers in your school. Do you know what they do?

    Light and shadow（影子）are friends. They usually go together. We receive light every day. At the same time, we produce shadow.

    Light cannot shine through you. Your body stops it from passing. There is a dark spot on the ground next to you. The light cannot reach the dark spot. This is your shadow.

    At noon the Sun shines over your head. Your body stops very little light from reaching the ground.

    We love light, especially sunlight. Without sunlight, life on the Earth is impossible. Most of us like to stand in the shadow of a tree in summer. But some people are afraid of their own shadow at night. They do not want to walk in a dark street. They do not want to see the shadow either. But still light and shadow usually go together.
