Now more and more people like keeping pets. They think pets are useful to them. Many families see pets as {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (they) family members like their daughters or sons. On the one hand, they think pets can stay with them when they are alone, because they are afraid {#blank#}2{#/blank#}being lonely. On the other hand. some pets are brave. When some people are in{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (dangerous), the pets can save them, even in an earthquake. Several days ago, some guide dogs even helped to send some old people to the hospital {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (successful).

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}, other people are against keeping pets because of so many reasons. They think it is very wasteful to spend hundreds of dollars{#blank#}6{#/blank#}pets. In their opinion, the money should {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (use) to help the poor. Some people are also worried about the illness that pets may bring to them. Pets don't know that people need a quiet environment. So their sounds become the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (big) problem in their lives.

How different the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (opinion) about pets are! I think keeping pets is {#blank#}10{#/blank#} personal habit. But if you can't deal with it well, that will make your neighbors dislike you.

One night, my family was driving back from visiting my uncle in the middle of a very bad snowstorm.

The road was normally two lanes (车道) going in each direction, but there was so much snow that it was down to one lane. We were scared, but we felt safe because my father used to work as a truck driver. He's a very safe driver.

We were all alone on the highway until three cars pulled up right behind us. They used their lights of the car and beeped their horns (按喇叭), wanting to get by us, but there was no place for us to pull over.

After a while, we stopped at a restaurant to wait for the storm to calm down.

The three cars behind us drove in too. They were full of young men. They were talking about how slow we were driving. One of them said loudly enough for us to hear, "If you don't know how to drive, you shouldn't be on the highway."

Soon after, the young men left even though the storm was getting worse. My father decided that we should wait inside, hoping the storm would stop.

After it cleared a little, we headed down the road. Finally, we came around a turning. We could not believe our eyes—the three cars were all in the ditch (沟渠)!

Dad ran to the cars. The young men were all okay, but they were freezing and very frightened. A police officer arrived and took some of the young men to the next gas station. We gave two of them a ride.

It was a very quiet drive. My dad turned to the young driver and said with a little smile, "You know, if you don't know how to drive, you should stay off the road."

The man was very upset. My dad smiled and said, "I was a truck driver for fifteen years and we had a saying: There are old drivers and there are bold (大胆的) drivers, but there aren't any old bold drivers."

The young man understood and hung his head in shame.

"Robots, drones(无人机) and AI will do around 90% of the housework by 2040, " scientists from King's College said. 

Mischa Dohler and Dr. Ian Pearson wrote a report to predict what homes will look like in 20 years. In it, they said that housework like washing the clothes and doing the dishes would be much easier because of technology progress(进步). If technology kept making progress, they expected that people would spend less than two hours a day in doing housework. 

But most British people still don't believe their predictions. Just 2/5 of the people think that house robots will become a reality(现实) by 2040.

①Communication plays a big role in our everyday life. Being polite with words can help you have better relationships with other people. It's also just a great way to make other people feel comfortable around you. If you're not sure where to start, don't worry. Below you'll find simple tips you can take to start being more polite to other people.

④Show your concern(关心). Congratulate other people on their successes. When others do well, offer them your praise. If your friend is going through a hard time, try to offer a few words of comfort.

 For the last 60 years, French kids didn't need to wear school uniforms. They could wear their own clothes to school. But now, things are changing.

 About 100 schools in France are now asking their students to wear uniforms. Many French kids love to compare (比较) their clothes. When some kids wear the clothes that don't look cool, other kids may laugh at (嘲笑) them. "If everyone wears the uniform, they won't compare the clothes any more. And the school can be a nicer place to learn and have fun." said French Education Minister Nicole Belloubet.

 But not everyone likes this idea. Some teachers think students may still compare, like shoes and phones. Some parents think uniforms are too expensive. They need about €200 ( about 1600 yuan) to buy a school uniform. As for students, they don't like to look the same. They like their own styles (风格) .
