When people travel abroad(到国外旅游), they sometimes stay in the homes of the local people. This is a homestay(家庭寄宿).

I am living with an old English couple, in the west of London. They have a clean four-bedroom house. This is a new house. It has two bathrooms and a garden with many beautiful flowers. I have a bedroom of my own.

There are some shopping centres and a restaurant next to the house, and the house is close to an underground station. It takes about 30 minutes to take an underground to the centre of London.

I think a homestay may be a good choice for you if it is your first time to visit abroad. The local people are friendly and ready to help. If you want to celebrate the holidays with them, you will get to know more about their culture and customs.

Different Stresses As a Teenager

As a teenager, there are so many stresses in your life and so many things are changing . For example, your body is changing. When you observe yourself changing, you may not always be happy with what you see. Remember that everyone goes through these changes. Be proud of your body because it's bringing you closer to being an adult.

Another difficulty that a teenager faces is how to deal with social groups. You want to fit in but sometimes it's difficult to break into certain groups. In this case, you can speak to members of the group individually(分别地)and if they accept you, great; if not, leave it alone. If you try too hard to get into a group, they'll be more likely to refuse you more, for fun. What's more, it's better to stay with those who like the way you are.

Teenagers may also have stresses in school. Teachers are going to prepare you for the outside world, which means you'll have more schoolwork. At this time, you'd better take a step back and relax. After all, they just want you to succeed. In the real world, no one will tell you what to do, so take your time and make good use of it. If you have any problems, you can share them with your teacher.

Besides all the requirements at school, you may have more at home. If your parents have high expectations for you, you may feel stress from different areas. But remember they just want the best for you. If your parents aren't interested in how your study is or who your friends are, you can find another adult like a teacher to believe in. If you get support from people you trust, your hard times will be over.

Tyler opened the door to his house and went inside. His mother was in the kitchen. She felt surprised when she saw his sad face. “Tyler, what happened? Is everything okay?” “Nothing is okay, Mom.” “Is there anything I can do to help?” “That's just the thing, Mom. We can't help. There's nothing we can do.” Tyler kept talking,“Today, the teacher talked about Earth Day and the environment. Earth Day is a day when every person promises to do something to help take care of our world. Mrs. Green said that our world is getting dirtier and that many animals and plants are dying. She wants us to think of something we can do to help and I thought all the way home and there is nothing I can do. I can't stop people from polluting our air and water and I can't save all of the animals. There is not anything that I can do to make a difference.”

His mother listened and after thinking for a minute said,“Of course you can. There are lots of things you can do. For example, you can walk to school. You can use both sides of your paper to save trees. You can plant a tree every year. You can clean up rubbish from your neighborhood park. Everything you do to help the planet makes a difference. The most important thing to remember is that Earth Day should be every day!” “Oh, I see. Mom, we each can make a difference to the world. Thank you, Mom.”

How Tyler felt at first

What Earth Day is

To {#blank#}3{#/blank#} something they could do to help the earth.

Tyler's mother's advice

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}from the neighborhood park.

Answer the questions.

You are invited to a large party. Loud music is playing, and lots of people are dancing. Do you dance or talk to as many people as you can all night? Later, you cannot fall asleep-you want more conversation! Or do you prefer a quieter corner? Or perhaps you cannot wait to go home early and relax by yourself.

Which of these people sound most like you? Person A, who tries to talk to everyone and stays late? Or Person B, who prefers to keep quiet and leaves early?

If you said Person A, you are probably more extroverted(性格外向的) . If you said Person B. you are probably more introverted(内向的), Or perhaps you are Person C and fall somewhere in the middle. Introverted and extroverted are two commonly used words to describe a person's personality. And they are also commonly misused and misunderstood.

Introverts may be thought as quiet, shy and timid. Extroverts may be thought as bold, confident, loud and full of energy. Introverted and extroverted people may fit those descriptions, But these same descriptions do not define(下定义) introversion and extroversion properly.

Introverts and extroverts use their brains differently, and they get their energy differently. Introversion is the state of being mostly concerned with one's own mental life. Extroversion is the opposite. Extroversion is the state of being mostly concerned with what is outside oneself.

People who consider themselves introverts may say they "need to be alone to charge their batteries". However, introverts may still love being social and going to parties. But such activities require time to prepare.

Extroverts may say, "I don't need 'alone time'. 1 feel more relaxed being around other people. "Even so, extroverts can still feel unsure or not confident among other people.

So where do you fall on the introversion/extroversion chart?
