David asks the volleyball star, Cindy Smith, about her eating habits.

David: Hello, Cindy. What do you like for breakfast?

Cindy: I love fruit. I think it's healthy.

David: OK. So what fruit do you like? Do you like bananas?

Cindy: Well, I don't like bananas. But I like oranges and apples.

David: What about lunch? Do you like salad?

Cindy: Yes, I really like it.

David: Hmm ... and do you like hamburgers for dinner?

Cindy: Oh, no, they're not healthy. I like chicken for dinner.

David: OK, well, one last question- do you eat ice-cream after dinner?

Cindy: Err. I like ice-cream but I don't eat it. I don't want to be fat.

    Once upon a time, there was an old woman who lived in a small house. She planted a lot of beautiful tulips (郁金香) in her garden.

    One night, the sounds of sweet singing and of babies laughing woke her up. She looked out of the window. The sounds seemed to come from the tulips, but she could see nothing.

    The next morning she walked among her flowers, but there were no signs of anyone having been there the night before.

    On the following night she was again wakened (弄醒) by the sounds of sweet singing and babies laughing. She got out of bed and walked softly into her garden. The old woman looked closely and she noticed that a fairy (精灵) mother was singing softly, and that in each tulip-cup was a little fairy baby, laughing and playing.

    The old woman went back to her house quietly. From then on, she never picked a tulip. She didn't allow her neighbours to pick the flowers, either. When the old woman died, all the tulips disappeared overnight. But her grave (坟墓) looked beautiful, because the fairies sang above it and kept it green.

    Many young people would like to go to west China to help children to study. One of them, Lu Yi, was a university student. One day, when she went to a small village in Guizhou, she saw the poor children herself. She felt sad. She thought she should do something for them. So she decided to stay there and to be their teacher. Money is the biggest problem for her. But she didn't give up. She worked hard and her students like her very much. After graduation(毕业), she went back to that village at once and she worked as a volunteer teacher for five years. She worked hard and her students liked her very much. When the journalist at the CCTV Station interviewed her, she said she liked being a good influence(影响). She said she hoped to change the poor children's lives. She enjoyed the time as a volunteer very much. She would try her best to help the poor children.

    Flowers have habits or ways of doing things, just as people have. Would you like to hear about some of these?

    There is one habit that almost all flowers have. They turn to the light. If plants are kept in a room, the flowers turn to the window. Some flowers shut up at night. It seems that they go to sleep. They open again in the morning. Tulips（郁金香）do this.

    One morning Lingling was looking at some tulips. When one of them opened, a bee flew out. He stayed too late last night, and so was shut up in the flower. He might be hard at work all day getting honey. He stopped to rest in the tulip, and was shut in when it closed. He had a fine bed that night. Lingling wondered if he slept any better than he would have slept in the hive（蜂巢）!

Time Management

    Do you ever wish you had more time? Everyone gets the same amount of time each day. But here are some ways to use those hours better. As a popular saying says, "Work smarter, not harder."

    The most important way to manage your time is to set priorities（优先权）.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Also, consider whether or not they are urgent—if they need to be done right away. It can be easy to forget important tasks that aren't urgent, so make time for them.

    Decide ahead of time what you're going to do at certain times each day. Schedule times not only to meet people but also to do things alone. Then you can make sure everything gets done.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Are you smarter in the morning, afternoon or evening? Schedule difficult tasks for times you feel good, saving easy ones for when you're tired.

    Write down what you need to do and when. I keep two to-do lists: one for the present tasks and one for larger projects I'm working on.{#blank#}3{#/blank#} And I don't get discouraged by looking at a long list of items I can't finish. I focus on the shorter list of each day's tasks.

    {#blank#}4{#/blank#}When someone wants to give you a task, think carefully. Is it really important enough to spend your precious（宝贵的）time on? Could someone else do it instead?

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}If you're in charge of running a meeting, keep it short. Reading articles or talking to friends online can also use up much of your time. Don't allow it.

    In the end, using time well is about making a good plan and sticking to it.
