A girl was walking in the woods when she found two weak birds. She took them home and put them in a small cage (鸟笼). She took good care of them. The birds grew strong. Every morning, they greeted her with a beautiful song. The girl felt great love for the birds. She wanted them to sing for her forever.

One day, the girl left their cage door open. The bigger of the two birds flew out. The girl watched as he rose high into the sky. She was afraid that he would fly away and she would never see him again. As he flew close, she caught him in her hand and held him tightly. She was happy. Suddenly, she felt the bird go limp (无力 ). She opened her hand. The bird was dead! Her love had stolen life from the beautiful songbird.

The other bird was pushing against the bars (条) of the cage. She could see how much he wanted to be free. She took him out of the cage and gently tossed him into the air. Would the bird fly away? Martin Lynch, an American businessman, had been going on vacation to a small Mexican fishing village for a number of years. One morning while going for a walk along the beach, he saw his friend Pablo Perez, a local fisherman. Martin watched Pablo unload his boat and pack the fish in a box.
Martin noticed Pablo was smiling and looked very happy. He could also see several large fish in the boat. Martin greeted Pablo and asked how long it took to catch the fish. “Just a few hours,” replied Pablo. Martin asked, “Why didn't you stay longer and catch more fish?” “I have enough for my family,” Pablo said. “And what do you do with the rest of your day?” asked Martin. “I take a nap, play with my children, spend time with my wife, and go into the village to see my friends and play cards, I have a full and busy life.” Martin explained that if Pablo worked longer hours and caught more fish, he could make more money. With the extra money, Pablo could buy more boats and catch money more fish. By selling the fish, Pablo could open his own factory and sell direct to supermarkets.
“Then what?” asked Pablo. “Well you would probably have to move to Mexico City to run the business. Finally, you would be able to sell your business and make millions of dollars,” replied Martin. “How long will that take?” asked Pablo.
Martin thought for a while and said it would probably take at least 15 years.
“And then what” asked Pablo.
“Well, that's the best part,” Martin said. “You will be able to retire, Buy a house near the ocean, sleep longer, play with your children, spend more time with your wife, see your friends, and play cards.”

Two years ago, a 9-year-old girl from Massachusetts, US, wrote a letter to American President Barack Obama. "Why aren't there any women on the dollars or coins of the United States?" Sofia asked. "There are many women that could be on the dollars or coins because of the important things they've done." To her surprise on April 20, also her 11th birthday, Sofia got a call from the White House telling her that her wish will come true.

Harriet Tubman, an African-American woman, will be on the face of the $20 bill, and the final design will be released(发布) by 2020, said US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew. This means that Tubman will become the first woman in more than a century and the first black person to appear on the country's currency (货币).

Tubman was born a slave (奴隶) in 1822. When she was 27, she made her escape. But Tubman wanted to help other slaves become free, so she later returned to the South 19 times and saved more than 300 people. She fought against slavery all her life.

However, while Tubman is going on the new currency, women still bring home far fewer $20 bills than their men colleagues (同事). According to the Institute for Women's Policy Research, women are paid only 79 percent of what men are paid in the US.

"Women have long been undervalued (低估)," said Susan Ades Stone from the US. "To put a great woman on the currency can remind us every day of women's value, abilities and contributions. At least it's a step in the right direction.
