The story took place in a small town in winter. One day a man met an old lady standing by an expensive car. It was clear that her car broke down. So he stopped his old truck and got out. Although he was smiling, the old lady was worried. “Is he going to hurt me?”

The man could see that she was frightened, so in his friendliest voice he said, “I'm here to help you, madam. Why don't you wait in the car to get warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.” It took Bryan about fifty minutes to fix the car. The lady felt quite thankful and she asked how much she should pay him.

 But Bryan wanted no money. ①对他来说，帮助别人很正常。He said, “If you want to repay me, next time you see someone in need, just give out your friendly hand.”

 After saying goodbye, the lady continued down the road till she reached a small café. She stopped for something to eat. As the pretty waitress stood next to her, the lady noticed she was nearly eight months pregnant (怀孕). ②Although she looked tired, she still served the customers with a smile on her face. As the old lady was going to pay the $10 bill, she remembered Bryan's words.

The old lady paid one hundred-dollar bill. But when the waitress returned with the change, the lady was gone. On the table she saw a small note. If you want to pay me back, continue being kind to others. ” Under the note were nine more $100 bills.

    When Mike was little, his father died. Life became difficult for Mike and his mother. Sometimes they couldn't have enough food to eat. Though it was difficult, his mother worked hard to raise Mike up with the best possible care and education.

    When Mike grew up, he got a chance to move to America for his further study. He studied hard and became an engineer, living a good life. He often sent home letters with much money for his mother. However, with many reasons, he didn't go back to visit his mother year after year.

    When his mother died, Mike returned and held a big funeral (葬礼). His mother left behind a box that she always carried around. Mike opened it and started to cry loudly.

    The box was filled with $100 dollar bills and a piece of paper. It read, "Son. I don't need to spend much money. I miss you a lot. Every time I hear a car passing by, I run out of the door but it isn't you. I save the money for you so that you can use it whenever you need it."

    Learn how to floss your teeth. It gets rid of food in the spaces between your teeth. Your toothbrush can't get there. Move floss between each tooth gently back and forth once a day. It may feel a little difficult at first, but pretty soon. You'll be good at it!

    Guess what? I have a chance to choose my new place to live! I'm excited and a little nervous. Could you please give me some help?

    I'm not sure whether I should live in a house or in an apartment. On one hand, a house will be too big for just one person, so maybe I should rent an apartment. On the other hand, if I rent a house, I could find someone else to share with me. The only problem is that a house full of people might be too noisy for me. I prefer to have my own space. The city has some nice apartments, but they are also too expensive. However, if I could find a two-bedroom apartment and get a roommate, that would make it more affordable. I just need to search for a roommate who is neat and quiet. You know I can't live with someone who is loud and messy. I don't have a car, so I also need to think carefully about the location.     The professor always tried so hard. He had tons of brilliant ideas—but they never worked. The store's system checks his car when he drives to the pickup area and greets him. "Good morning, Tom! Your order is in Case 4. Thank you for shopping." When Tom removes his order from Case 4, the trade is completed automatically(自动地) over the information superhighway. That is, the money is electronically paid into the bank. Soon after arriving at the office, Tom reads another message from Lucy, telling him that she will go to have dinner with him.

    The smart home can also do many other things:

    Find things like keys and mobile phones.

    Clean your home from clothes to buildings automatically.
