Peter Owen has been making wigs (假发) since the 1980s. He has made wigs for the stars of more than seventy movies, including Tom Hanks in Philadelphia, Johnny Depp in Sleepy Hollow, and Nicole Kidman in The Others. One of his biggest jobs so far has been designing the hair and make-up(化妆) for the three Lord of the Rings movies. He had just six weeks to design and make more than a hundred wigs, each one a different style, colour, shape and length.

    The hair and make-up in a movie are just as important as the costumes(戏装) or the sets. Over the years, Peter has made actors look older, younger, healthy and sick. For one movie he even made a female actor look like a man!“What people don't realize about wigs is that we are not always making people more beautiful,” he says. “Often we are covering up beauty and making them look ordinary.”

    All Peter's wigs are hand-made using human hair, so they look as real as possible. This also makes them very expensive―between US$4,500 and US$12,500 each! He knows he's done a good job when people don't realize the star of the movie is wearing a wig. So he was pleased when one newspaper said that Nicole Kidman had dyed（染色） her hair dark brown for a movie. “It was a wig and no one knew that,” he says.

    On April 19th, a pottery (陶器) exhibition was held at Wuhan Optical Experimental Valley School. Many pieces of pottery in different sizes were shown at the school. Some were a bit broken, but all of them were beautiful works of art created by the students.

    At the end of last year, the school started a project that called on teachers to collect disused or broken pieces of pottery from the countryside. So far, they have collected about 3,000 pieces.

    "Pottery used to play an important role in the daily lives of Chinese people." school head Ma Guoxin told the reporter. "By pottery painting, the students can improve themselves in many ways. They can better understand the history of the pottery, put their creativity into the pottery and show the love for life and beauty. "

    Students turned the pottery into different works of art .They were all encouraged to paint pictures on the pottery, even though some students didn't know how to paint. Wang Zixuan, a student from Grade Eight, with little knowledge of painting, painted a beautiful night scenery on a piece of pottery. It was so nice that many students loved it.

    Almost every classroom has coloured pieces of pottery. They are either used as flowerpots or pen containers(笔筒). The school has also set up several art corners to show the pottery. For example, the students have put up some pottery on bookcases outside of a lecture hall(报告厅) It has become an enjoyable place for students to rest and read.

    Calabash brother (葫芦兄弟) live in the Calabash Mountain with their grandfather. They are all very brave. They wear different clothes. The red calabash is the oldest of the seven brothers. His strength is powerful. His body can be bigger or smaller. But he doesn't have his own ideas. The orange calabash has two bright eyes and big ears. He can see and hear far places clearly. The yellow calabash's body is very strong. Nothing can injure(伤害) him, but he is arrogant(傲慢的). The green calabash is the god of fire. He can eat fire and make fire. The cyan(青色的) calabash can drink water and make flood. The blue calabash is the cleverest of all.

    Nobody can find him when he makes himself invisible. And the purple calabash has a magic gourd(葫芦). The gourd can absorb(吸收) everything.

    One day a pangolin(穿山甲) broke the cave and two monsters came out. They were Monster Scorpion(蝎子精) and Monster Snake. The calabash brothers must fight with them and save the world, unluckily, their grandfather who helped them beat the monsters was killed by the monsters finally.

    I'm Sally. I was a shy girl. Bu this term, I decided to do a brave(勇敢)thing. In this term, we had a new subject to learn— physics. When our teacher asked someone to be the physics monitor(物理课代表), I put up my hand and got the role. But it was not as easy as I thought.

    At the beginning, I found that many students did not hand in(上交)their homework, so I was a little worried. I shouted at the students. It made the students angry. One girl asked: "Why are you shouting at me? You're making it seem like it is all my mistake(错误)." Then I found that, it was my mistake in fact. I should talk to my classmates in a kind way and not get so angry.

    After this, I changed(改变)how I spoke. "Excuse me. Could you please finish your homework?" I said. Later, I was surprised that many students understood me a lot better and finished their homework quickly.

    I found the best way to do this job is to talk with my classmates in a friendly way. Now, I am getting better and better with my classmates. This job makes me feel like I am growing up like a little tree day by day.
