Say you're sitting around with some friends playing video games and someone mentions a game that happens to be one of your favorites. "Oh, that game's easy. So not worth the time," one of your friends says. The others agree. Although you enjoy the game quite a lot, not wanting to argue with them, you go along with the crowd.

You have just experienced what is commonly referred to as peer pressure(同伴压力), also called peer influence. You will adopt a certain type of behavior, dress, or attitude in order to be accepted as part of a group of your "peers". As a teen, you are likely to have experienced the effect of peer pressure in a number of different areas.

We are all influenced by our peers at any age. For teens, as school and other activities take you away from home, you may spend more time with your friends than with your family. As you become more independent, your peers naturally play a greater role in your life.

According to Dr. Casey from Cornell University, teens are very quick and accurate in making decisions on their own and in situations where they have time to think. However, when they make decisions in the heat of the moment or in social situations, their decisions are often influenced by factors like peers. In a recent study, teen volunteers played a video driving game, either alone or with friends watching. The researchers discovered that the number of risks teens took more than doubled when their friends were watching, compared with when they played alone. This shows that teens may find it more difficult to control risky behavior when their friends are around, or in situations where they are extremely angry.

Just as people can influence us to make unwise choices, they can also influence us to make good ones. A teen might join in a volunteer project because his or her friends are doing it, or get good grades because his or her friends think getting good grades is important. In fact, friends often encourage each other to study, or try out for sports.

While we are always influenced by those around us, the decision to act or not is up to us. So when it comes to decision making, the choice is up to you.

A、like to play driving games with their friends B、prefer situations where they have time to think C、may take more risks when their friends are around D、are slow in making decisions when they are on their own
(2)、The words "in the heat of the moment" in Paragraph 4 probably mean "_________".
A、when teens avoid possible risks B、when teens trust their judgment C、when teens lose control over their anger D、when teens give consideration to situations
(3)、What can we learn from the passage?
A、Teens are eager to be different from their peers. B、Peer pressure has effects on both teens and adults. C、Peer pressure does more harm than good to teens. D、Tees think it challenging to get good grades at school.
(4)、Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A、Peer Pressure: Is It Necessary to Deal with It? B、Peer Pressure: Is It Possible to Get Away from It? C、Peer Pressure: Its Benefits to Teens and Friend Making D、Peer Pressure: Its Influence on Teens and Decision Making

①There's nothing quite like falling sound asleep after a full day or work. Like people, animals need to rest after working hard. Some animals sleep in water. Others dig holes under the ground. Some even sleep high in trees or under leaves. But they all find a way to rest.

②Some animals in the sea sleep in strange ways. Fish sleep with their eyes open. They seem to look ahead far into the sea while they rest. Sea otters sometimes sleep in beds of the plants that grow in the sea. This keeps them from moving away. Parrotfish blow something from their mouths when they are ready to sleep. Then a bubble(气泡) will be formed around them. The bubble protects them from harm while they sleep.

③Some animals sleep under the ground. Chipmunks(花栗鼠) sleep curled up in a ball. Their beds are made of grass. In winter, they sleep for two weeks before waking up again. Some desert frogs di g underground holes during the hot, dry season. A frog may stay in its hole for months.

④There are some animals who sleep in the air. Some seabirds can sleep while they fly. These large birds spend most of their lives over the ocean. They are in danger on the water, but they are safe in the air. They glide for many hours without flapping(拍打) their wings.

⑤High above the ground, monkeys find leafy places in trees each evening before they sleep. The tall trees help to keep monkeys safe during the night. Some insects even sleep under the leaf that will be their next meal. A bee may climb down into a flower to rest. When it climbs out the next morning, it is rested and ready for work.

The eight- day holiday started on Friday. It was Mid- Autumn Festival( 中秋节) on Friday. However, many people chose to travel during the holiday. They were busy booking(预定) hotel rooms because the rooms were sold out(卖光) fast and expensive. At the same time," Living in my home during the National Day holiday" got popular online.

A 25- year- old man in Xiamen rented(租) out his apartment to two women traveling to the city from Xi' an, Shanxi Province. They rented the apartment at 200 yuan a night and they would stay for seven nights, while a hotel room could be more than 500 yuan a night." It was the first time I rented out my apartment during a holiday. There are no expensive and important things in my apartment. I want to rent it out to someone who will keep it clean," he said. After checking the guests' personal information, he decided to rent out his apartment and the women paid him 200 yuan as a deposit(押金).

Freda Lewis was a popular young woman in town but she sometimes acted strangely.And she was always forgetting something.

One day her mother asked Freda to go to the bank to get some money.It was a really cold,windy,winter day,Freda forgot that she was still wearing the mask and went inside.

Freda walked up to the window,and the teller (出纳员) got panicky because she saw a person wearing a mask.Without saying a word,the teller gave Freda $10,000 in an envelope.Freda did not open the envelope before leaving the bank and had no idea she was carrying so much money.

After Freda left,the teller called the police and said that her bank had just been held up by a robber (劫匪) who was wearing a mask.Freda was on her way back home when she noticed there were three police cars.The police made her stop.The poor girl was frightened to death,and didn't know why the police would be after her.The police pulled her out of the car and forced her to the ground.

When a police officer pulled off the mask,they all found it was Freda,and realized that someone had made a mistake.Once the police explained why they were there,Freda told them that she always wore a mask in winter and that she must have forgotten she was wearing it when she entered the bank.

When the police asked the bank teller if Freda had demanded the money,the teller realized that she had made a big mistake.Luckily,no one was hurt,and everything was returned to the bank.

How can you remember a song for a long time? Why does your teacher use songs to teach you English? Do you know there is a scientific (科学的) reason for this?

Scientists are studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They found that remembering words in a song is the best way to remember even the most difficult language.

"Singing could be a new way of learning a foreign language. The brain (大脑) likes to remember things in a catchy and relaxing way. For example, children can remember difficult words quickly when they are in a song," said Dr Lude. "If children find it difficult to learn foreign languages," Dr Lude wrote, "a listen- and- repeat (重复) singing method can support foreign language learning, and open the door for future research in this area."

Many language teachers know the importance of music and they often use it in teaching and learning. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in America, likes using songs to teach Chinese. " We usually use English songs but teach them the Chinese lyrics (歌词), so it's easy to start because they know the music, " she said. "Sometimes I think if I learnt English that way when I was young, maybe I could speak English much better than now."

Our brain likes music in learning languages. especially (尤其) for remembering. If you are still having some problems in learning a language, why not try singing it out?

 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Nature and culture are often seen as opposite ideas. What belongs to nature cannot be the result of human activities and, on the other hand, cultural development is achieved against nature. However, this is not the only opinion on the relationship between nature and culture. Studies in the development of humans suggest that culture, whether taken as an effort against nature or a natural effort, is part of the development of the human species.

Several modern writers saw the process of education as a struggle against human nature. We are born with wild natures, such as eating and behaving in a disorganized way or acting selfishly. Education uses culture as a way to get us out of our widest natures; it is thanks to culture that the human species could learn to adapt, progress and raise itself above and beyond other species.

Over the past century and a half, however, studies in the history of human development have shown that the formation of culture is part of the biological adaptation. Consider, for example, hunting. It seems to be an adaptation, which allowed humans to move into new and different areas, opening up the opportunity to change living habits. At the same time, the development of weapons is related to that adaptation—from rocks and stones to a set of hunting tools, and from hunting tools to rules relating to the proper use of weapons. Hunting also seems to be responsible for a whole set of bodily abilities, such as balancing on one foot. Just think of how this very simple thing is closely related to dance, a key expression of human culture. It is then clear that biological development and cultural development are closely tied.

The transmission of culture seems to be directly related to what's in our blood. Just as snails carry their shell, so do we bring along our culture. However, culture is also passed on among people of the same times or among people belonging to different populations. We can learn how to make jiaozi even if we were born from Russian parents in Paris just as we can learn how to speak English even if none of our family or friends speaks that language.
