Dereck and Beverly are wildlife animal filmmakers(制片人). They have made lots of films about animals and plants. Their job is to keep and protect the big cats of Africa from damage(伤害).Beverly also takes photos of the lions, and her pictures have appeared in National Geographic magazine.

When they were kids, Dereck was quiet and healthy, he was good at maths and science. Beverly had a twin brother. At that time, her brother and she often got their mother into trouble! Beverly was a dancer, an athlete, a class leader and she could play the piano. Her favourite subject was science and she always got excellent grades in her science exams.

When in the field, their work starts at around 4 am. After drinking a cup of tea, they drive out into the bush(灌木丛) to find their subjects. Sometimes that is a lion pride(狮群).Lions are family animals and they usually live in groups of 15 or more. Sometimes that is a single leopard(豹). They follow the animals for the day, filming, researching, and collecting facts, information or pictures. They don't stop working even when they have lunch. They are often back in camp by 8 pm.

When talking about the favourite places to explore, Dereck says, "We live in it!"Beverly thinks being in nature is her favourite. Dereck thinks running or taking a swim in the Okavango swamp (沼泽) — especially swimming close to crocodiles(鳄鱼) is great fun, but Beverly says,"Swimming is fun but crazy in these waters!"

It is a Chinese custom that when guests visit, the first thing a host does is to make and 1 them tea. And wherever the Chinese go, the custom of tea drinking follows.

Tea is 2 the young leaves of a tea tree. According to the special ways the Chinese use to process (加工) the 3 , there are four kinds of tea: green tea, oolong, flower tea and black tea. Among them, green tea is the most 4 with people.

The time to pick the tea is very 5 . For example, Longjing, one of the best green teas, is collected several days before Qingming Festival when new twigs (嫩枝) have 6 begun to grow.

7 Chinese people drink tea daily, there are differences between tea drinking and tea tasting. People who drink tea might just do this because they are thirsty. Tea tasting, on the other hand, has cultural meanings. Tasting is 8 the shape, flavor (香味), color, taste, and the freshness of tea. The 9 is also an important element (要素). In China, people consider spring water from famous natural fountains (泉) is the best.

The ancient people regarded tea as a 10 which can refresh and calm their minds. Tea has been a type of Chinese culture and popular among Chinese.

A student walks into the teacher's office with his heavy schoolbag slowly and looks worried. "What's happening?" the teacher asks. He tells a lot of small things that make him really unhappy. Then the teacher stops working and decides to do something to help the little boy.

He asks the student to get a glass of water and some salt* from a box. The teacher asks the student to put the salt into the glass of water and drink it.

"How does it taste*?"the teacher asks.

"It doesn't taste good."the student answers.

The teacher doesn't say anything else, but asks the student to get the same amount* of salt and go with the teacher to a nearby lake.

"Put the salt into the lake,"the teacher says. The student does what the teacher says.

"Now, taste the water from the lake,"the teacher says.

The student gets some water from the lake with his hands and tastes, the teacher asks,"How does it taste?"

"Fresh and a bit sweet,"the student answers quickly.

"Do you taste the salt?"the teacher asks.

"No,"the student shakes his head.

The teacher sits beside the student,"The pain* of life is just like salt—no more, no less.

However, how salty it tastes depends* on the container* you put the pain in."

"How do you feel now?"asks the teacher.

The student looks at the teacher with a big smile. He feels much better now.

"Thank you for giving me such a lesson. I think I will never forget the taste of them and learn to be a lake."

That year I went to the college. On the first day of the term, I was so surprised because our teacher introduced an old lady to us in our class. She sat by me. She was very old, but she looked very energetic（精力充沛的）.

I was interested in why she came to the college at her age. "In fact, I always dreamed of having a college education（教育） and now I am getting one!" She told me later. We became friends. Every day we studied together. I always listened to her when she shared her stories with me. And she often asked me some problems about the lessons.

At the end of the term, we asked the lady to give a speech（演讲） to our class. I' ll never forget what she taught us. She said, "We do not stop working because we are old; we grow old because we stop. Do you want to stay young, be happy and successful? Never lose your dream and never give up."

The old woman's words touched all of us. And I still remember her words all my life, so I'll go on my dreams and try my best to make them come true.

School Uniform Rules

Dear parents, 

Some parents have asked about the rules about dress at Popular School. Please read and buy the right uniforms for your children this winter. 

Children can be allowed to wear blue scarves or white scarves to school. But they aren't allowed to wear hats. 

The school uniform must be clean. Girls with long hair must tie（扎）their hair with yellow ribbons（丝带）. 

Children can only wear sports shoes to school if they have a PE lesson that day. They are allowed to wear white sports shoes only.
